This might already have changed by the time the student graduates though. Because of that I also think it's not the best approach to tightly limit student numbers for a certain field - unless the people who decide have a real good crystal ball. Better to be open for carrier changers imo. Because let's be honest: most important things I needed to know for a certain job were learned on the job, not at university.

Also the demand for X changes all the time. When I studied my first time to become a teacher (German and Biology) there were no vacancies and we were told that we most likely will have to drive a cab. Nowadays you could cherry-pick your school and would get picked up by a palanquin every morning. When I studied Computer Science and later lectured in University IBM payed every student who went to do a practical semester with them 1,800 € a month. Just to get a hold of them and raising the possibility that they would "enlist" with IBM after graduation. Things have calmed down significantly since then. Computer Science is still likely to get you a good job, but it's nowhere as wild as it was. Between both studies I went and did an apprenticeship as Banker (because I didn't want to drive a cab) and it was very easy to get an apprenticeship (it's called dual system because you go to work and learn practically and also go to school to learn the theoretical stuff). Nowadays all the small banks do fuse and bankers get layed off. Digitalisation... Some fields will never have good chances though I fear - unless something fundamentally changes. In Germany we should be more open to people in management positions who are not economics graduates. I believe this is more common in the US?

If you can speed up until 0 recovery and beyond you can activate Penetrating Shot with no recovery penalty. For example with Alacrity + Durgan Steel + Speed (Engwithan Scepter) + Gauntlets of Swift Action. You can play with attack speed/recovery time here: https://naijaro.github.io/poe-speed-calculator/ Also Penetrating Shot is often worth it with lower damage multi-projectile hits - as is the case with the Golden Gaze here. Penetrating Shot works for some targeted ranged spells such as missiles without adding any penalty to the spell recovery.

I know it's silly but "pubic university" sounds... ****ed up. I'm so happy that university is free in Germany (if you don't pick one of the private ones). We have long-term fees though: if you are not graduating quickly enough - after 1.5 times the standard period of study has passed - you will pay for every additional semester. But it's not super high. We had fees for a short time but it turned out to be bad so we got rid of them after a few years.

Wyrmtongue cannons don't set fires?
Boeroer replied to andargor's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I believe the fire ammo wasn't implemented properly. Doesn't work as you would think at all. It could be that they would cause fire if they trigger a special effect on hit (like cannonballs can injure crew members, cause cargo loss, tosses somebody overboard etc.). Those special effects occur a lot more often with experienced cannoneers (master "4-star" trigger those events pretty often). So maybe Wyrmtongue and similar weapon will always cause fire events then (which are more severe than most others).

Are tanks particularly useful in this game?
Yes. Also Escape is very useful if you use "the Wall" (large shield modal) because you can't move otherwise (except with Charge but that's too expensive and you need an enemy as anchor iirc). Bounding Boots would also work but Escape also has that nice +50 deflection which is near even if it's short. The only thing I don't really like about Edér is his bad INT. On the plus side he can have a pet, which is awesome.

Ah, Rymrgand, why do you exist?
Maybe not everything went exactly as planned. Do you know the FS book "The man who would be Skaen"? IT doesn't sound as if Skaen as a god is exactly what the children of the wheel had in mind either.

Build feed back...
RES has increasing returns when it comes to deflection. That means every additional point of deflection has more impact that the one before. Not only deflection but every defense. It can make total sense to raise RES over CON if you are going for high deflection. If your deflection will end up mediocre anyways (like in this case) there's no point in raising RES though. Unless it's for preventing interrupts or roleplaying purposes and dialogue checks of course. In my option CON is one of the least useful stats in PoE if are willing to use a potion every now and then. Its effects are biggest in the early game but high CON isn't that useful later on. It's a lot more effective to prevent damage via high defenses, debuffing and hard CC than trying to soak it. If your health pool drops too fast you can use potions of Infuse with Vital Essence to regain health - just drink it shortly before combat ends. As a melee cipher you shouldn't rush the enemies together with your main frontliner. Wait a bit until the enemies settled and then go in from the flanks. That way you avoid getting pummeled too hard all the time. 8 or 10... those margins don't really matter that much. PoE's attributes' impact on the effectiveness of your character are fairly limited compared to other systems. Given the slow power creep that AoE calculation is (AoEs are calculated by altering the radius which leads to exponential area growth - increasing returns again) I usually favor INT over everything else when I want to use AoE abilities primarily. Increased durations come on top. So I would totally go with the highest INT possible if I can afford it. Your Amplified Wave will thank you later. It's true though that Wizards/Druids' etc. want big AoEs even more than Ciphers in general. But still: and Amplified Wave with enormous INT will nearly always cover all enemies and that's pretty cool. But again: two points of INT won't make a lot of difference. Totally agree on the "overpressuring/overplanning" part. Most players will restart after a short while anyway because they start to understand the mechanics better and get a better understanding for what character they really want to play. And if not that's also great, then you have found a character you like right from the start.

In my experience Edér is less tanky when being a Swashbuckler - at least at the first levels - but hold enemies better. Maybe it's because he's part Rogue, maybe because of higher dmg threat when disengaging - no idea how the inner workings are when AI decides when to leave or not. All I do is send in Edér first - either sneaking towards the enemy and unstealthing with a fair amount of space to the party or "escaping" in front of the advancing mob (if encounter can't start from stealth) and engaging everybody around. Unless you didn't deactivate it in the game options engagement stops movement which messes up the enemies AI. And with Escape you can also leap between rushers and party members again and re-engage (and stop again). My tank works like a permanent, movable Pull of Eora with a damage component.

Coronavirus Goes Fourth
But still illustrates my point fairly well. "That corruption that happened there cannot happen here" while "here" perceives itself - and is perceived by others - to be a lot more corrupt than "there" is a pretty... bold... statement. If anybody wants to know how the CPI is generated can have a look here: https://www.ifo.de/DocDL/dicereport309-rr2.pdf Imo it's not nearly as bad as Zoraptor makes it sound. Other forms of measurement don't produce significantly different lists. In every list Sweden will be a country with rel. little corruption while Poland isn't too bad but also not really good.

Yes, SC Monks are awesome. SC Casters can be very good in general. There's not much that comes close to stuff like Great Maelstrom or Missile Salvo etc. Most of times I don't multiclass Aloth. Also because then I reach my favorite spells like Miasma a lot sooner. SC Ranger can also be very powerful with particular builds. Try one with Driving Flight and Twinned Shot with the BoW scepter Current's Rush on some mobs and see what happens. Or with Hand Mortar/Blinding Smoke with Twinned Shot and Avenging Storm and so on. Chanter's high level stuff can also be very nice. Dragon Summon has awesome tanking capabilites for example. Eld Nary's Curse is great, too. Try it with encounter-wise empowerment from Sasha's Singing Scimitar as a Bellower. Barbarians can also be great as SC because of the PL9-yells which are awesome. Furyshaper's Blood Ward is extremely good because it drains from everything, even every DoT tick. Paladins and Fighters: better with multiclasses imo. Ciphers, too - although I like Shared Nightmare. Multiclasses often impress earlier in the game because they tend to be frontloaded. And of course you can have nice and interesting synergies.

Yeah, nice - but it comes so late. Is it worth it to plan around that? I mean you can export it...

Your engagement slots have a big impact on your capability to hold enemies. I always bring a dedicated tank like Edér or somebody similar with 5+ engagement slots. If I unstealth the tank first and wiat a few seconds enemies will cumulate around him which is one of the most convenient "resourceless CC effect". Usually enemies you are engaged don't run away from the tank as they did in PoE. Stuff like Guardian Stance and Overbearing Guard to help. If an enemy breaks engagement I can pull back with Into the Fray (but I rarely have to do so). Having a large shield is benefical for every party member imo. Not that I do it with every party member - but in certain fights you will receive a lot of ranged attacks (for example bording fights) and the large shield modal is very good against that. I most of times use Cadhu Scalth on my main tank because in combination with high AR and the large shield modal almost no AoE dmg comes through. That's also true when I use my own friendly fire spells on the area where the tank stands. I often use a Swashbuckler because high Reflex from buffs and shield in combination with Adept Evasion makes AoE hits from enemy and friends alike even less likely to deal damage. Also the passive appliance of Persistant Distraction to 5+ enemies at once is really neat. That way I can very calmly set up the rest of my party for the "perfect" combination of buffing, debuffing, CC and finally damage while the tank occupies most enemies. A few might slip through - but since I seldomly play with supersquishy glass cannons that's not much of a problem as long as it's not the whole bulk who's rushing at me. While a Herald for example has great damage-soaking/avoiding capabilities, passive healing and good support - he lacks engagement and thus can't tank as well for me. At leat not until he gets some engament+ gear. Some Barb multiclasses (esp. with Paladin) can do the trick for me as the Barb can get +4 engagement with shout and passive alone. He can also stack some nice AR (again: with Paladin) so a shield isn't that necessary - but still great to have. Hauana Furyshaper/Goldpact tank with Reckless Brigandine, Kapana Taga and Cadhu Scalth is quite cool imo. Tons of engagement, tons of AR, great defenses, good debuffing (stagger, shaken) and great CC via fear ward. And melee dmg isn't even than bad for a tank.

Ah, Rymrgand, why do you exist?
Did I dream this or isn't Rymrgand the guy who's grinding the weak/fractured souls to essence so that the gods can feed off of that? Wasn't the hanged animancer dwarven in PoE say something like this? And before the wheel was build there were also fractured souls in the cycle but their deterioration served no real purpose - and now since the wheel is running Rymrdude is just in charge of that "new and better" process?

Following some people's argumentation using an elevator isn't a problem as long as you don't engage in sexual intercourse, don't lick, sing, cough, spit or yell. Because droplets can't fly and this is not Toy Story. Also everybody who enters an elevator will be tested and is not infected anyway so you're totally safe.

- Howler tank?
In terms of defensive capabilites Cadhu Scalth on average is unmachted imo (if you are willing to invest into Athletics and Metaphysics). Best Defense is an offensive shield but its offensive capabilities are pretty meh. Bashing shields don't scale their offensive stats (dmg, PEN, ACC) with quality like weapons to. - Howler tank?
