  1. Basically how it works is that The American Council on Education reviews the courses and the training you receive and assigns a credit value to it. For me and in what I did, I got a little over 30 credits but that includes boot camp and MCT (Marine Combat Training - infantry school for non grunts) as well as MOS (military occupational specialty) school which took about 8 to 9 months total. Most of the credits only went towards electives and Mickey Mouse courses but it was a decent head start. EDIT- I also got a Journeyman Internetworking Technician thingamabob and a handful of certs but that wasn't until a few years later.
  2. Things have changed then. When I was in they were exempt. Of course I turned my rifle in almost seventeen years ago. That is an eternity in the Corps, a lot has certainly changed. Do they (WMs) have to go to MCT now? They were exempt from that too. They go to MCT now as well. I didn't have any with me as I was a Hollywood Marine so I don't know how well it is integrated but I heard different things, some say it's the same and some say they had to make it easier so they didn't have to split it. Also, our CFT is not your CFT, it's much easier and counts towards promotion and speaking of promotions our whole system would have to be reworked because women would rarely get promoted if they were held to the same standards as men. For those not familiar with the Marines, PFT/CFT is a huge part of getting promoted and we don't have written exams like the Navy(sorry that's the only other branch that I'm remotely knowledgeable about) does. Here is a wiki link that runs down the PFT for men and women (I know some people here don't like wikipedia references but it's easier to read and follow that the official military site).
  3. I don't think anybody here is suggesting that women can't serve in war zones on active service. This is a role-related issue. With respect you are missing the point slightly. And in most western armed forces bayonet technicians (inf) are usually on the lowest payscales. The technical roles (like Guard Dog working in aviation tech) tend to get articifer NCO status and higher pay increments to recognise their training and skills. The role we're talking about is infantry and armour. The pointy bit. It's just different. Actually, we get all get paid exactly the same depending on rank and time in service. There are things that will alter your pay slightly like speaking some needed language or diving or flight pay and there is also the different things you get while deployed. EDIT: I would also like to point out that women run the combat fitness test too but are graded on a different scale just like they are on the regular physical fitness test for obvious reasons. I'm not opposed to women serving in combat roles but I don't know how well it could be implemented in the Marine Corps.
  4. Quite a bit different SNES Sega
  5. I was just thinking about Matrix Cubed and Countdown to Doomsday last night and thought that Buck Rogers would be an interesting setting to revisit. As for Shadowrun, I thought the SNES game was more fun but the Genesis version was closer to the rules but I enjoyed them both and I would love a new Shadowrun game.
  6. Last day of work then two weeks off. It's also my birthday.
  7. Thanks for that
  8. I'm just wondering why they limited the ability to zoom out so much, was there ever a reason given?
  9. Yes... because somehow a dead person can be prosocuted. Is it no longer illegal? Here is the US, you can be prosecuted for an attempted suicide. There are some legitimate reasons for this, mostly revolving around the fact that it leads to court ordered therapy for the person. Better hope you don't fail then because if you thought your life sucked before...
  10. GD, the new Commandant is a pilot so there is hope for women to some day lead the Marine Corps. Also, I'm a bit saddened that the Marines were the branch most opposed to the repeal.
  11. The price bothers me more than the plot.. 60 bucks!
  12. I thought some other company made MDK and Bio just made the sequel... Do you think they would bring back a game that wasn't really theirs to begin with? EDIT: I realize that Bethesda brought back Fallout but this would only be the same if they had also made Fallout 2
  13. Because that would have the opposite of the intended effect vis a vis stopping future leaks of classified material. How so? This just so happens to be the perfect storm of a U.S. service member who was willing to sell out his country meeting another person who is all to happy to diseminate said information to everyone in the world. I think a bullet would go a very long way in plugging potential future leaks. And just to show I dont discriminate, the soldier should get one too. You don't think the assassination bit is a little extreme? Also, I'm sure the Soldier will get what's coming to him. EDIT: not a bullet
  14. Reinstalled NWN1 and am now playing through Hordes of the Underdark. I think that it has held up pretty well and aside from a couple odd graphical glitches in character creation it's running just fine in Windows 7.
  15. I also like Comodo
  16. Alpha Protocol 2
  17. I found out that I got promoted last month which took me by surprise because I've basically been out of the military for nearly 2 years. Rested XP ftw! Now I have to update the rank on a bunch of uniforms that I don't wear just in case I get called back to active duty.
  18. Impulse and Best Buy still have it for 50 bucks.
  19. Yeah, people should never work on things they enjoy and can be proud of. If he can afford to be so selective then good on him. Honestly, I don't see what the big deal is.
  20. Currently splitting my free time between Civ 5 and LotRO. Finally moving up into the higher difficulty settings in Civ but aside from being steamrolled once for seriously neglecting my army I'm finding it to be a little easier than I feel it should be.
  21. I prefer DD to having a physical copy but I like systems like GOG and D2D over Steam and Impulse. In fact I don't like Steam very much at all and I don't have any real reason for it because none of the things that I dislike about it have ever interfered with me playing a game.
  22. A c-section scar on her chest? If she didn't give birth to an alien then I'm confused.
  23. I would pay 20 to 30 dollars for an hour to an hour and a half of that.
  24. I saw this article and immediately thought of you guys Gates details $100 billion in defense cuts
