  1. Ha. Sometimes I go to the nwn2 vault or whatever it is called and just make characters as well...never play them just make them.
  2. I feel you. I reroll all the time. My current playthrough is as far as I have gone in POE and I just got a nasty status bug on my PC and may roll again.
  3. I am running it fine on a mac mini mid 2011 with the amd 6630m (I think). I did not meet the min requirements and have been fine so far.
  4. Remember that base damage is actually a random range. So a weapon might do 10-15 base damage... which means that 2 attacks that both hit might still do a different amount of damage. THAT is my problem...among other things. That range was making me scratch my head and couldn't figure out why the number was slightly varied. Another thanks is in order my friend.
  5. Scores are kinda pointless imo and I seem to remember AJ using a buy or pass rating in the past which I thought was a nice way to do it.
  6. Boom. Thanks. This is probably part of my problem as well. I have seen a different number for my damage number prior to damage reduction (in the log) in the same fight on similar enemies (on similar attack rolls). Thanks again.
  7. I know many of the people thinking the Camp system kinda sucks have beat the game on PotD. The difficulty stuff is a tired argument, don't bother using it. It's about our 2nd or third PoTD play through we begin to really see just how much of a chore this camp system is compared to BG2's system. It's just not as good, simple as that. This is a good point that I had not thought of (multiple play through). Slipped my mind since I am still on my first run. The reason I like the resting system is that it makes me play more like pen and paper. The translation between pen and paper to crpg has always been awkward imo with resting and spell casting being on the top of the list. The spell limit just makes more sense to me in pen and paper but not so much in a crpg and it usually results in resting all the time to make sure my spells are loaded. PoE feels like it struck a great balance between exploiting resting and using your wizards in a smart way (for me spells come out only in tough fights or surprise situations) where as in games NWN2 or BG I would ruin easy baddies with fireballs and what nots then rest (even when a group of enemies were visible but not yet aware of me.
  8. How is damage calculated? I feel dumb for asking but I can't seem to find out why a damage number is what it is in the battle log. Every time I am playing and I wonder about damage I think "look it up in the combat notes in your journal", but all I can find is damage types.
  9. DA2 is such a strange game. It was the sequel to one of the best rpgs ever imo but for some odd reason it changed almost everything that made the first one great. For me the one thing that I really enjoyed about DA2 was the 'humor' option in dialog. I found it entertaining to crack jokes during serious moments. Usually you get good, bad, neutral type of responses in rpgs and it was refreshing to crack a joke. It was really hard to play DA2 and not feel like Bioware was assuming you were a moron. One of the best traits of OE is the respect they show their audience. OE assumes you can think for yourself.
  10. I will admit I find it a tad odd and surprising to see that Obsidian chose to censor the limerick, seeing as how this is the company that produced Caesar's Legion and Durance. Both of them preach about how conflict or "fires" can make you stronger while burning away the weak and unworthy. With stories like that, you think they'd have a mentality of how the world is harsh and you need to be willing to face that some people can and will offend you, but you need to be able to carry on. But again I'm a realist and I'm sure this was a decision made (decision to even ask Firedorn) moreso in the interest of marketing. Companies are notorious for being a place for ideologies to die. Do you find it a tad bit odd that Christian Bale is not actually Batman or a serial killer? I find that analogy a little weak. He played a part that was handed to him. Obsidian wrote and constructed those things themselves. You're better at writing about concepts you're passionate about, so it's odd to see writings about "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" on one hand and then a desire to protect someone's feelers in the next. As I said though, the realist answer is of course that marketing would never allow such potential drama like that limerick existing post-complaint. Writing is a creative process and the passion to create fuels the process. That passion will always trump the material. Obsidian has also written and constructed many stories that are full of manipulation, darkness and murder. Do you expect them to live their lives like Sith Lords because they created the most realistic Sith Lords?

  12. I have spent a lot of time with Pillars thinking and reading but NOT playing. For me it has everything to do with a "new system." With D&D games you could just hit the ground running because, for the most part, the mechanics were the same. I was playing Blackguards prior to Pillars and, having never used the Dark Eye system, I spent a lot of time rerolling. New system = time figuring it out...for me.
  13. I am playing on a mac and I have the patch...but I bought the game on steam. So the patch will work for mac but I am not sure how you would get it.
  14. At this point maybe you should try a different game from a different company.
  15. Wanted to buy on GoG but had to use steam because my financial institution requires authorization for purchases "outside of the country".
  16. Sleep at the inn then find or buy another party member who is not a wizard.
  17. I am probably in the minority but I think PE is an improvement over ALL the IE games in terms of mechanics.
