Whoa, waitaminute. "A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense; never for attack." (rough quote) from Empire by Yoda. But... As long as he/she is defending themself, I would assume that a Jedi would use any powers at his/her disposal, up to and including the lightning. Or else, the lightning is a rape of the Force, in which case the disable/destroy droid power being used by a good side Jedi is nonsense. I'm beginning to actually think the latter. "Quicker...easier...more seductive..." Quicker how? To what end? Quicker to become powerful? Powerful how? Strong with the Force powerful? Powerful to fight? Jedi aren't supposed to by trying to solve things through fighting; they're driven to it. Easier to do what? To manipulate objects? To gain knowledge? Enrichment? This quote really doesn't make a lot of sense, actually. I don't think the leveling has to be any faster. The Dark sider is quicker to power by nature; instead of being fair/nice/benevolent and helping people, you're serving yourself and taking away from others, which winds up making you more powerful. Whereas a Jedi might have to train long and arduously with a lightsaber, the Dark Jedi begins to learn how to harm with the Force directly. I do agree with the Dark side points for Dark side powers logic, but not with good side points for using good powers. Only good deeds should bring you closer to the good side, which I think explains itself.

A few things that bugged me about KOTOR

I've never played the PC version: If I had an average gaming PC, would the load times be faster than on Xbox? If so, that's a very good reason to upgrade my PC... -

Simultaneous XBox and PC Development?
anari_quun replied to Tz-Auber's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
That may be true, but tell that to the corporations. They'll milk every last drop out of this series, just like Lucas does with the entire Star Wars franchise. It's not really up to the developers to determine whether it's going to be cross-platform release. That's what the marketing whores do. -
This makes sense even with one weapon.

Simultaneous XBox and PC Development?

It's all about money. They'll sell more games on a cross-platform release. Just like movies being changed and dumbed down to appeal to a wider audience: more money. -
Overuse of the double-bladed saber
anari_quun replied to guns1inger's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
How about two double-bladed saber whips? Why not wear a saber strap-on? C'mon, I know everyone wants it. -
Since a lot of the fun of the game is fighting, why would you want to avoid it? That's another problem with using computers to kill enemies: you don't get nearly as many experience points. It's so much better to fight the enemies directly. Skills were pretty useless, especially because you eventually had to go up against Malak and be very powerful anyway. Though I do think it's a good idea to have different skills open up secret areas, quests, etc.

Yeah, like they couldn't come up with one more different head to put on those guys, they have to be the long haired guy, probably the only cool looking male head in the whole game.

Were you referring to the sword? There is something to be said about how your character wields swords and lightsabers as if they had the same weight. -

Armor Restriction/Force Powers
anari_quun replied to anari_quun's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
We all know that it's possible to get through the game quite easily using non armor restrictive powers. I think it'd be more interesting to be able to use any of them with armor on, that's all. I totally agree with what you're saying about Strength and Dex. That didn't make any sense to me in the game. -
Armor Restriction/Force Powers
anari_quun replied to anari_quun's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
That's what I mean, I chose only powers that worked with armour. I meant I should be able to choose any powers, and they should work with armor. I just think armor restriction is ridiculous. Why force players to wear Jedi robes? It's symbolic, not utilitarian. I should be able to wear whatever I want. How about coming up with some other thing to sacrifice is all I'm saying. -
Very true

From what I've heard, the devs are making it so that it alternates between players as to who goes first. As for fairness, keep in mind you're always playing against a machine that always does the same thing (hit under 17, stay above 17, etc), so it's not like true gambling where risks come into play (at least not for the computer).

I say there's already too many "worlds". Look at the planet Earth. Here we have every single type of landscape seen so far in any Star Wars movie: Ice, forests, desert, swamps, huge cities, lush meadows, jungles, oceans, mountains, etc. hell, I live in New Jersey, and across a year I experience almost all of these environments! I've always felt that the "planet of the week" concept was best left in Star Trek. I have a big problem with the fact that a whole planet like Dantooine or Endor or Kashyyyk is shrunk down to the size of a couple of football fields worth of space and there's only one type of landscape. Of course those planets would really have all sorts of landscapes, but as far as Star Wars is concerned, there's only one or two cities on each planet, and only one predominant landscape. If you keep in mind how big an entire planet is, all of KOTOR could have taken place on one or two planets with little change in the story, and could have been perfectly believable. I'm not saying that going to other planets isn't believable, but each planet being reduced to a particular kind of landscape is really boring. Here's what I suggest: When you get to one planet, go to different places on the planet. For example you get there, there's a starport, you buy some stuff, talk to people, etc. Then you get in some speeder or the Hawk and fly 1000 miles south and investigate ruins or something. Then go somewhere else on the same planet. But no, the story says we have to go to an entirely different planet to find something, and what do you know, the ruins where the star map is are two blocks away from the starport. It's entirely unrealistic, and could easily be solved by having different "sections" of a planet to explore. They got close to this with Manaan, but cmon! The underwater facility should have been a bit further away from the city. I'm not going to get into how incredibly uncommon life supporting planets are supposed to be in a given galaxy: why are we wasting them with only one tiny area and landscape per planet?? "This week on Star Trek: a new planet with something on it that the characters have to go explore and someones going to get hurt. Tune in next week when we do the same thing again, ad nauseum." Let's not do this with Star Wars (but it's already happened, look at all the books after the Timothy Zahn tril)

This is a very good idea. Would make an interesting plot twist and could add to your selectable "enhancements"... And how did Malak lose his jaw? I never saw any cutscene. -

Oh, I have seen the new Jedi robes- very cool. I know you could get through the game wearing armor; I'd just like to have all my powers too! -
If the story hinges on it, go for it. If not, don't bother. Since a romance is a different sort of relationship with your characters that would in real life have lasting repercussions that would lead to a different chain of events in the end, I think at this point it's just not possible to really make an effective romance in a game like KOTOR because the focus of the story is on the big picture: taking down the bad guys. If there was a romance, I think at first the devolopers would need to limit the character selection to just male or just female, because of time constraints. Then, from there, there would need to be at least four different endings, good side romance, good side no romance, dark side romance, dark side no romance. And then there should be even more endings because you shouldn't be limited in who your character chooses to be attracted to. Man, it's just too complicated to make realistic! I liked that they touched on it in KOTOR, though. I think this could open the door for more expanded romance "quests". Oh, and about the men and women in the same party automatically being attracted to one another: The option should be there. It's not written in stone; you either go ahead with the romance, or you don't. It should be another option of gameplay, just like everything else.

Overuse of the double-bladed saber
anari_quun replied to guns1inger's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I'm all for characters wielding double bladed sabers, even if they're not Jedi. They should just lose massive hit points for cutting themselves. If you're bored, do an experiment. Tape two flashlights together and twirl them around and try not to hit any part of yourself with the beam. Okay, now imagine you're trying to attack someone without hitting yourself. It's obviously something that must be controlled with the Force. For me, the problem is not so much that there are a lot of double-bladed lightsabers around, but that all of the "Dark Jedi" holding them are the same, they all have the same color blade, wearing the same clothes, using the same powers, etc. -
Someone mentioned something about this in another forum, and it got me thinking. It'd be much cooler to slow everything else down and leave your character moving at normal speed (in combat only; I'd still want the speed-up so that big game areas could be retread quicker). Call it bullet-time, whatever, the idea's far older than the Matrix movies; that was the only time it was put on film in front of a mass audience. It's not an original idea! When you use Force speed, that whole "screen blurring" thing really is stupid: you'd be able to see more, not less. There were even times where the blurring would still be on because my 36 seconds hadn't run out yet and I was in the gun turret shooting at blurry Sith fighters. No blur effect please (or else make it much less obvious).

Armor Restriction/Force Powers
anari_quun replied to anari_quun's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Clearly, if a Jedi could simply cast off blaster bolts with the Force, he or she wouldn't need to learn how to deflect them with a lightsaber. I think Vader was just wearing some really esoteric, snazzy armor. But another reason I don't like amor restrictions is that it limited your appearance to the Jedi bath robes, which looked bad on the male characters and horrible on the female characters. I know, it's a silly problem, but I'd like my heroes to look the part.
