Yeah, he makes visually well-made movies that are completely uninteresting in any other way. He's like a vanilla Zack Snyder, who makes visually astounding movies that are completely uninteresting in any other way.

Welcome to Blank's First DMing Experience.
Blarghagh replied to Blank's topic in Pen-and-Paper Gaming
Are there any other DMs who would like to run a game here, maybe? I'd do it, but as previously mentioned I've never played D&D, let alone run it. -
Yeah, a huge case of lightsaber envy.

Gonna make me some Pad Thai tonight. Or at least, the recipe on the back of the sauce I got said it was for Pad Thai. I've never had Pad Thai with pork and fried rice, though, so I think it's ****ting me.

Don't relapse! Unless you want to. I'm more interested in the new StarCraft II expansion units and how they're going to completely **** with multiplayer balance.

I don't know, the whole thing seems to be designed to appeal to casual gamers, what with the easy access to raids with pickup groups etc., which makes a lot of sense really. Recent numbers indicate that it's only a small number of players who do hardcore raiding in the first place (I'm not sure on the specifics, but I keep hearing only 5% of the players killed the last raid boss), so maybe Blizzard decided to focus on their huge number of other players instead of focusing on all raids all the time. Personally, I quit WoW because it was all focused on preparing all day for the same raid day after day, so I can't lament it. Plus, the new PvE Scenarios feature seems pretty cool. Actually defending towns and laying siege in the world? That's the one thing I really wanted from WoW anyway, ever since it was announced.

The ungodly amount of QQing and Ragequits going on in the WoW fanbase right now might just make this game worth playing again. If they follow through anyway.

I'd rather wait for Blank's answer since he's (supposedly) DMing this thing. If this thing happens and I'm allowed in, I'd like to play a Halfling Fighter (because there's simply something great about someone half your size trying to protect you). Keep in mind that my D&D experience begins and ends with BG2, so there may be some handholding involved when it comes to specifics. -
I don't have one. The last thing I need is internet and flash games all the time. It's hard enough for me not to get stuck browsing TVTropes and Cracked.com or watching Let's Plays.

The Drizzt Do'Urden Film and Video Game
Blarghagh replied to Cutlock's topic in Computer and Console
Yeah, the Prince of Persia flick got a lot of things right. Got a lot of things wrong as well, but those are the kind of things blockbusters do wrong, not the kind of things video game movies do wrong. I wish they'd just skipped the first Silent Hill game and went straight to number two. The second one works fine without any backstory. Instead, it seems the sequel movie will skip straight to number three. -
So essentially, what he did was take KotOR II and say "YOU DIDN'T WRITE THIS, I DID!" to KotOR II writers. What a huge ripoff.

If this thing ever happens, would there still be space for another player? Specifically, a player who has never actually played DnD before but is interested in learning it? I tried finding local groups where I could try it out, but the closest one I can find is apparently three hours commuting away. Doesn't seem to be a lot of love for it in my area, and the only thing the local comic book shop does is TCGs. -.-' -
Very visceral and painful, yet not insulting or personal enough to be a flame. This post is art.

Little confused here, I mean, obviously changes to Korgan don't carry over to BG2 because it isn't until BG2 that you meet the dwarf?

Obsidian is working on project for leading animation franchise
Blarghagh replied to funcroc's topic in Obsidian General
How is that an animation franchise? Fair enough. I have to admit I haven't played Dungeon Siege 3, lack of funds and time. I'm not sure I would classify Avatar as Dark and Mature. There were moments that were dark and mature for it being a kid show (your mileage may vary, some people still claim Koh the Face Stealer is too kiddy) but it was still, by and large, a children's show. Not that that means I wouldn't love to see Obsidian do one, mind you. Avatar is just the kind of universe Obsidian could run with. I'm sure there's plenty of things MCA would be able to turn on its head in it, ala The Force in KotOR II. I just don't think Nickelodeon would take a risk like that. -
Aww, that's one of the most uplifting posts I've read on here in quite a while. Thanks!

Obsidian is working on project for leading animation franchise
Blarghagh replied to funcroc's topic in Obsidian General
This would be great. I have to wonder, though, Obsidian games are not often all that kid-friendly. Lots of talking and deep mechanics, not a lot of twitchy, colourful stuff. I don't think Nickelodeon would trust Obsidian with a franchise like Avatar, that despite being awesome and having a large fanbase among adults is still very much targeted towards kids. In fact, I'd be surprised if any franchise geared towards kids would be given to Obsidian. So that begs the question, are there any large animation franchises that aren't squarely aimed at kids? I think you'll end up with just comedy shows like South Park, The Simpsons, Family Guy, etc., but that doesn't seem like a great fit either. Though they might allow MCA to finally make that High School RPG he was always asking for. Man, I think I butchered my punctuation in this post. It just doesn't feel right. -
I am so incredibly confused. Are you applying for a position at Obsidian Entertainment? Through a forum post? With conditions?

Reinstalled Dungeon Keeper 2. Time to slap the hell outta some minions!

The No Twinkie Database by Ernest Adams (who is a fantastic public speaker). It's a list of errors games make that make him go "BAD GAME DESIGNER! NO TWINKIE FOR YOU!" http://www.designersnotebook.com/Design_Re...ie_database.htm

Okay, so I was wrong. Still, he hasn't degraded them on purpose or whatever. And 'rewriting cultural history' seems like an extremely harsh accusation for minor changes to a re-release of couple of films. How is an Ewok blinking in a DIFFERENT VERSION of the film a change cultural history anywhere? It's just more of this overdramatic nerd entitlement BS that seems to saturate geek culture these days. Here's another perspective. Did you know most famous painters, in between showings of their work, would often do minor touch ups? There's a saying that has versions across all artistic works. In the case of painting, "a painting isn't finished until the artist puts the last stroke on the canvas". Why can't that be true for films? And for films, there's always the older versions to go back to! I know I've got some old VHS tapes of the originals. They're still there. I still have my memories from watching it the first time. How is that changed? It hasn't, and if you claim otherwise you're just being a hipster among Star Wars nerds, and if that isn't the worst thing you could be then I don't know what is.

I disagree, Star Wars is his baby. Sure, there are lots of people who worked on it. I recently worked on a short film with a decently prestigious director. He wrote it, he came up with it, he made it happen. I feel happy I was able to help that vision come to life, but there was never any question of whose project it actually was. He is also LITERALLY the owner of Star Wars. It's a bit out of context, but would you believe it is George Lucas making those statements in 1988? http://www.toplessrobot.com/2011/09/1988_g..._george_luc.php It's unfair to say this is what Lucas is doing. He's trying to turn his story into a unified whole (whether or not he's succeeding is another matter entirely) and he's changed things he finds thematically unfit (he made Greedo shoot first because he felt it made Han Solo into a more heroic character, which is a reason, as much as we like to disagree with that reason on the basis that it is retarded and cheapens his journey from scoundrel to hero). Also, the old Star Wars negatives still exist. He's done nothing to them, and he still spearheads the movement to keep hollywood history intact. There's also nothing in his statement implying that he has a problem with those changes, just that he wishes to preserve the original versions.

I disagree. I think the special effects MADE it escapism. The special effects had never been so good, they were mindblowing, they're what allowed people enough suspension of disbelief to actually escape into it. It looked convincing enough at the time for people not to get into all it's faults. I like Star Wars a lot and have a lot of respect for what it did for the artform as a whole, but I have no illusions that other than the editing and the special effects they are good movies at all. Even about Empire Strikes Back I can only say... "it's great... for a Star Wars movie".
