First, they came for the emos, but I said nothing...

The sins of the father, Guard Dog. -
I did that yesterday. Clean a room or something, the guilt will go away. Then you can triumphantly declare you stayed home to clean up and organize. Don't spend more than 20 minutes on it, though, no need to go overboard. That sounds similar to when I try to convince myself that masturbation is a form exercise and I cannot be out of shape, because I exercise regularly. This is one post I wish I hadn't read repeatedly due to other people's quoting. OH GODS WHAT AM I DOING

No worries, personal issues take precedence over video games. -
To each his own, I couldn't stand him in any of those movies and truly despise him due to those Bulletproof Monk and Dukes of Hazzard flicks. I cannot think of an actor that I dislike more than Sean William Scott. I hated him in everything I've seen him in, Evolution, Dude Where's My Car, Road Trip, Mr. Wood****, everything.

Err, wow, thanks for the well-wishes and happy birthdays everyone. Didn't expect that many. Tigranes: No worries, my bad for picking an extremely vulnerable class. I kindof expected it.
-
I started watching it, but then realized that no amount of recommendation, good writing and acting will ever make looking at Sean William Scott worth it.

It's my birthday. Hooray for me. Celebrated it last week, cool swag includes: A toolbox and some tools for in it, "Firefly" and a couple of movies on DVD, couple of books including Neil Gaiman's "Anansi Boys" and Eoin Colfer's HG2G "...And Another Thing", the first volume of my favourite webcomic "Gunnerkrigg Court" in print, bunch of candy, couple of gift certificates, the rare (at least here in the Netherlands) Soul Coughing album "Irresistible Bliss", some money and a totally awesome drawing of me as a Jedi Knight. Less cool swag includes a book about erection problems that someone thought would be funny and a baby doll (because I once mentioned that my girlfriend wants kids but kids make me nervous). I'm going to have to come up with something terrible to get those people back. I kindof deserved it though, on their birthdays I gave them Twilight DVDs and representations of male gonads made out of Marzipan respectively. My birthday high got kindof ruined by hearing that my older brother has to get invasive and risky intestinal surgery next tuesday. Little worried, but he's a tough dude. Or maybe he's not and I just think he is due to his inherent older brotherness.

Survival! In a way. Revisionist history for the win. So how does this affect the death score? -
Wrong Gore. Those movies were directed by Gore Verbinski.

Yes! Survived another update! SCORE! -
Except for the other guy in the comment thread who went through worse and went to a completely different school from which I can find confirmation of a sort. http://en.wikipedia....my_at_Ivy_Ridge So even if the original poster is lying (which you can't confirm, so I feel accusing him of being some sort of whiny guy who had to do bible study is a little presumptuous) there is at least confirmation that behaviour modification programs masquarading as schools DO exist which, regardless of what they actually do there, is cause for extreme concern despite your misgivings about that poster. The poster who claims to have gone to this confirmed "behavior modification" school claims things such as: Of course, this school has been shut down. But apparently, the people ran this school are now running a similar academy in the Dominican Republic where American teenagers are sent outside US jurisdiction. I found a website containing "survivor stories" from these programs at: http://nhym-alumni.org/ A documentary was made on this program. http://www.indiegogo...pped-For-Christ It seems to confirm, among others, the "kidnapping" charge.

Maybe Shapeshifter was not such a good idea after all. Ten bucks* says that I die twice and get replaced before Gorth, Nepenthe or Sorophx. Either that, or I take revenge on Gorth somehow. He did shoot me in the face. *Not really. -
This was pretty much my day, eventually I just gave up and went with RoadKill Is that any good? I've never used it. I'm trying to keep most of my stuff in standard Max option because I always have to outsource to render farms which are incompatible with a lot of plugins, but apparently RoadKill is a standalone app or something? I'm currently using XRayUnwrap to make the whole texture mapping thing less annoying, but it's still a pain.

Why Why Dutch? As a native Dutch speaker, I can tell you it's a terrible language. Half of the grammar is unneccesary and it has all the personality of a hospital. I sometimes go around pretending to be a tourist just so I can avoid speaking it. P.S. Eddie Izzard quote for the occasion: "Two languages in the same head? No one can live at that speed!" No way. Your language is cool, your women are babes, and their accent is adorable. Maybe it's because I'm used to it, but women here seem pretty regular to me (although I have noticed that we have a higher ratio of attractive people than our neighbour germany), and people with dutch accents sound like they have brain damage, which is why I hate that my accent slips sometimes.

Upgraded to 3D Studio Max 2012, spent several hours figuring out how the new UVW Unwrapping interface works. Apparently, just like the old one, but the buttons have been moved. Efficiency!

I speak Dutch and English fluently, I can understand German if written down or spoken slowly enough - I can not write or speak it. I'm interested in learning Chinese because of China's rising status as a global superpower, but I don't think I'll learn it.

I can't believe how much you guys are trying to rationalise this. I've seen outrage in threads about video game reviews but in here these is mild distaste coupled with understanding? Frankly, I'm almost equally disturbed and appalled by the subject of the thread and the contents of the replies in it.

The fight for goodness must continue bump. -
Fair enough, I do agree with that. The problem is that the special effects departments don't often work with the cinematographers, it would be very easy to fix if Hollywood didn't just go "we'll leave it to the FX guys". If the cinematographers would just come in and fix the lighting in the CG, that vaguely out of place, watery and sterile feeling would all but disappear. It bothers me a lot that when I go back to watch 1993's Jurassic Park, the CG is still better than 90% of what's out there now, and that's all because Spielberg got people who knew their ****. They were practical effects guys who had to work with CG, and in doing so retained a lot of their knowledge. This current generation of CG-is-all special effects departments just doesn't have that expertise, and can't have that expertise because there's no one around to teach them. I hate that practical effects seem to have no place in blockbusters anymore even though it will usually give a better result, I'm glad there are still those Christopher Nolan's around to push for them, and I wish Hollywood would try to use CGI to it's strengths, not as an end all solution. In fact the only real issue I had with your original post was that you said "because of all the work that goes into those, vs. clicking pixels on a computer....", which made me think you held the same view as many people I've talked to in that "computer animation huh? that must be easy, just fill in a few parameters and the computer does the rest" and I'm glad to see you don't share that view. I personally love the artistry of a good animatronic, but I also love the artistry of a good CG effect and I know from experience that both require a lot of patience and hard work. But there are a lot of bad CG effects out there, and animatronics aren't used much anymore so due to nostalgia most people don't recall that there used to be a lot of terribly practical effects out there as well.
