What are you playing now?
- Trying out Skyrim and not really getting what the fuss is about. - I suppose I'm halfway through Book of Unwritten Tales and loving its awkward Discworld ripoff humor. - Speedrunners is bloody hilarious. The most rage inducing moments from four player Mario games used as game mechanics.

Drama in indy gaming and games journalism
I like the implication that I'm just going to believe any twitter post without thinking as if I'm not going to verify that they come from halfway credible sources or sources I've been familiar with for a longer time. Social media does not automatically make something untrue and manipulative. There have been plenty of attempts at manipulation and I'm not stupid. I've only posted things that come from a) a source I trust or b) falls in line with my personal experience in this particular situation. I wouldn't have posted them at all if there were any credible sources covering this at all, which there aren't. The only way to make an informed decision is to seek out the information through back channels and I've waded through the nonsense.

Bruce Despite the fact that I did supply a link as you said as well as that I consider people I am very close to, personally to be pretty damn credible sources, there is no credible source in the term of objective journalistic reports as nobody with credibility is reporting on this on either side. There is no such thing as a trustworthy journalism in this case as they are building a different narrative than what is actually happening. Also, you equate fascism with Hitler to evoke Godwin's law but fascism is not defined by Nazism. It's a false equivelancy and evoking Godwin's law on it is intellectually dishonest. Not to mention that I don't think mentioning Hitler should invalidate a discussion in the first place. Godwin's law has made a very real threat of history repeating itself taboo to speak about and that is never good. If anything, the entire censorship of the discussion has me recalling this quote: "If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." Not to say that I equate this stuff with the plight of black people in America or that GamerGate has Malcolm X on it's side, but censorship is an incredibly scary tool and any side that uses it should be condemned wholeheartedly by anyone who believes in equal treatment and freedom of speech.

At the risk of sounding like a troll....are you guys trolls?
Yes I know, but if you read it like it's not a Superman story it sounds even more epic. As if this is the back cover of a novel.

No offense TN but is social media really irrefutable proof of anything? Like that photo of the syringe...how do you know its real? Can you possibly post some credible links that can be verified? The person who posted that particular claim of getting the syringe is the Breitbart journalist who wrote the articles regarding the GameJournoPros list. He is a verifiable person and not some anonymous internet user. Just because it's a social media link doesn't mean it's not a reputable person. I suppose there is a possibility that he faked it but thus far he's been, though transparently politically right wing, as truthful as possible. It's mentioned again in this article: http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-London/2014/09/22/They-re-on-to-us-gaming-journalists-respond-to-their-critics-in-series-of-new-GameJournoPros-emails/ The thing is, there is a possibility that everything is faked or misrepresented. We cannot verify claims of people on the internet at all. However, what I can verify is the people close to me who have been victims of abuse by this group, such as an instance of a powder letter or my girlfriend being consistently belittled and referred to as a "sockpuppet" for criticizing games journalists and as such being my personal experience I am inclined to take other reports of this happening more seriously. To be completely fair, I would be remiss to not include that people on the other side are also being harassed. Openly, GamerGate has condemned these actions but they still keep being carried out in GamerGate's name and therefore I cannot in good conscience keep supporting them as a movement. Swatting attempts on members of the GameJournoPros list, especially the ones that don't seem to have even been involved in the controversy, are beyond disturbing. I would still say, however, that GamerGate, by openly condemning those actions, still morally has the high ground over the anti-GamerGate people who by and large have refused to even acknowledge that GamerGate people are being harassed (or in fact, in some cases, even acknowledge that some GamerGate people exist at all judging by the continued marginalisation of #NotYourShield as "sockpuppets" and "weaponized minorities").

Looking for them now. The #GamerGate tag is going so fast it's hard to find anything again. Here's the first instance of a syringe, which was against the Breitbart guy, but the syringe has been reported more often: https://twitter.com/Nero/status/513666683916255232 Trans person being threatened with getting outed (I verified that the tweets exist, this is just easier) over the phone: https://twitter.com/FartToContinue/status/513180768752115712/photo/1 Jason Miller, the black man who claims to have started #NotYourShield and is not a member of 4chan, was fired after his employers received complaints of "misogynist behaviour". Can't find the source but he reported it personally. I just keep forgetting what his twitter feed is and when I google his name I just get some wrestler. Wanting to get a journalist covering GamerGate positively to be arrested. (Could be the Breitbart guy again, don't know any others) https://archive.today/N56fj White powder was a friend of mine who shall remain unnamed. Sorry. Can't find the source for Jason Miller getting fired. Sorry. Did find this though: https://twitter.com/DoctorWatkins/status/514185951435046912/photo/1

That's what bothers me most about this, all the censorship and not being able to have an opinion. And I don't mean that it'll get shouted down, I mean you become a target for more serious threats. I am increasingly weary of GamerGate, especially because harassment is still being carried out in its name, and I have stopped "flying the colors" so to speak, but on a whole the hardline cultural marxists on the anti-gamergate side are by far the most terrible people I have ever encountered on the internet. I've seen some of the nonsense leveled at women in online games with my own eyes, hell I've been harassed because people made me out to be an "SJW" before, but that is practically benign compared to the stuff these people are doing. Sending random people envelopes filled with white powder and unsheathed syringes for tweeting in support of #GamerGate or #NotYourShield, calling their employers with false allegations and getting them fired? Publicly outing trans and homosexual people who identified with #NotYourShield to their families and friends? I kindof get it when people harass and theaten the forefront people, like the Breitbart guy or Sarkeesian. I condemn it, but I see why they would be targeted by hardline idiots on both sides. But random people who just made a couple of nonoffensive tweets with a hashtag? That's beyond reprehensible.

So that makes them the exclusive boys club with the sign "no girls allowed" on the door, then? I feel like we should point out the patriarchy thread to them as a place where they might want to congregate.

Drama in indy gaming and games journalism part 2
Yeah, like I posted earlier, 90% of the list is white males. 89,74%, technically. I'm going to assume most of them are cis-gendered too. That's a lot worse than all numbers on diversity among gamers, whether you account for hardcore vs casual or not. Looks like Leigh Alexander isn't actually on it. Looks like she's still not allowed to play with the boys.

Drama in indy gaming and games journalism part 2
My thought process exactly. GameJournoPros list quick count - Out 0f 163, 140 are white males. I wonder if they're projecting their own sexism and racism onto gamers. Correction, 140 out of 156. 90%.

What the ****. Hold on, so when you do it to a woman it's analogous to rape. But "overpowering" a man is not?

Drama in indy gaming and games journalism part 2
Be that as it may how is that relevant to GamerGate and corruption among journalists? I'm asking for something more specific here.

Drama in indy gaming and games journalism part 2
I'm seeing calls to "boycott gearbox", can anyone explain why? Hardly relevant as I was already boycotting them over Duke Nukem Forever and Aliens: Colonial Marines but I'd like to know what they did this time.

That sounds fake and I don't care about 4chan either way, but the fact that they are attacking The Escapist is pretty awful. "Join our ranks or die" seems to be the prevailing idea among those supposedly fighting for equality. Did anyone post this yet? A horrific account about pressured political correctness: http://mindlesszombiestudios.com/content/gamergate-you-can-call-me-shield

I didn't see the date. Still, same applies. I especially enjoy the part where the writer goes "I'll not name the developer" and then links about a thousand things that name the developer.

Wow, let's completely ignore the horrific trivialisation of rape from this supposed feminist for a minute and realize that this doesn't actually cover anything that TotalBiscuit actually said. He said that if it is true that she used a DMCA Takedown to remove a video she didn't agree then he condemned her for that action and that is literally the only thing he said that can be construed as being negative towards Zoe Quinn. This is another example of anti-GamerGate people dragging Zoe into it when she isn't even relevant - painting a target on her forehead and throwing her under the bus to further their own agenda. It's all fine and dandy to throw complete lies around if you're willing to use someone who has already been victimized as a lightning rod to keep the heat off yourself. What a terrible, terrible person. The world is literally a worse place for everybody on both sides because this article and its writer exist. I very dearly hope TotalBiscuit doesn't dignify it with a response.

What are you playing now?
Hrm, what mods are mandatory? I'm not really in need of the many prettification mods since I'm not sure my computer will be able to run them, I sorely need an upgrade. None of these increase PC requirements as they simply fix stuff and make things more convenient. There are about a billion mods out there, but these are what I would personally consider mandatory: - Unofficial Skyrim Patch Fixes a huge amount of bugs Bethesda never fixed. There are also patches for the DLC's if you have them. - SkyUI Unless you use a controller the UI in Skyrim is one of the most horrendous I've ever seen. SkyUI makes it much much better for keyboard & mouse. - A Quality World Map - With Roads Adds roads and removes clouds from map screen. Less critical, but makes the map way more convenient. - No NPC Greetings As default NPC's say something to you as you pass by them. This might not annoy at first, but the more you play the more you wish they would just shut the **** up. Use this mod to reduce the distance to npc's which starts the "greetings speeches", I suggest the slightly reduced version for first playthrough. - Oblivious Horses The horses in Skyrim are bloodthirsty maniacs that go berserk every time you get into a fight and run in to help you. Guess what happens when a horse goes mano a mano against a dragon? This mod stops that. - Run For Your Lives When dragons attack towns the NPC's attack it. Brave, but not very convenient if the store keepers end up dead. This mod makes only city guards attack the dragon and the rest run into cover. - When Vampires Attack Same as the last mod, but for vampire attacks. This is needed only if you have Dawnguard DLC. I do use a few other mods too, here is a full list: Thanks a lot. I'll look into them.
