  1. I'm seeing calls to "boycott gearbox", can anyone explain why? Hardly relevant as I was already boycotting them over Duke Nukem Forever and Aliens: Colonial Marines but I'd like to know what they did this time.
  2. That sounds fake and I don't care about 4chan either way, but the fact that they are attacking The Escapist is pretty awful. "Join our ranks or die" seems to be the prevailing idea among those supposedly fighting for equality. Did anyone post this yet? A horrific account about pressured political correctness: http://mindlesszombiestudios.com/content/gamergate-you-can-call-me-shield
  3. I didn't see the date. Still, same applies. I especially enjoy the part where the writer goes "I'll not name the developer" and then links about a thousand things that name the developer.
  4. Wow, let's completely ignore the horrific trivialisation of rape from this supposed feminist for a minute and realize that this doesn't actually cover anything that TotalBiscuit actually said. He said that if it is true that she used a DMCA Takedown to remove a video she didn't agree then he condemned her for that action and that is literally the only thing he said that can be construed as being negative towards Zoe Quinn. This is another example of anti-GamerGate people dragging Zoe into it when she isn't even relevant - painting a target on her forehead and throwing her under the bus to further their own agenda. It's all fine and dandy to throw complete lies around if you're willing to use someone who has already been victimized as a lightning rod to keep the heat off yourself. What a terrible, terrible person. The world is literally a worse place for everybody on both sides because this article and its writer exist. I very dearly hope TotalBiscuit doesn't dignify it with a response.
  5. Hrm, what mods are mandatory? I'm not really in need of the many prettification mods since I'm not sure my computer will be able to run them, I sorely need an upgrade. None of these increase PC requirements as they simply fix stuff and make things more convenient. There are about a billion mods out there, but these are what I would personally consider mandatory: - Unofficial Skyrim Patch Fixes a huge amount of bugs Bethesda never fixed. There are also patches for the DLC's if you have them. - SkyUI Unless you use a controller the UI in Skyrim is one of the most horrendous I've ever seen. SkyUI makes it much much better for keyboard & mouse. - A Quality World Map - With Roads Adds roads and removes clouds from map screen. Less critical, but makes the map way more convenient. - No NPC Greetings As default NPC's say something to you as you pass by them. This might not annoy at first, but the more you play the more you wish they would just shut the **** up. Use this mod to reduce the distance to npc's which starts the "greetings speeches", I suggest the slightly reduced version for first playthrough. - Oblivious Horses The horses in Skyrim are bloodthirsty maniacs that go berserk every time you get into a fight and run in to help you. Guess what happens when a horse goes mano a mano against a dragon? This mod stops that. - Run For Your Lives When dragons attack towns the NPC's attack it. Brave, but not very convenient if the store keepers end up dead. This mod makes only city guards attack the dragon and the rest run into cover. - When Vampires Attack Same as the last mod, but for vampire attacks. This is needed only if you have Dawnguard DLC. I do use a few other mods too, here is a full list: Thanks a lot. I'll look into them.

  7. KotOR is hardly you must execute her. You can join her, bring her back to the lightside, let her go, you could even chose to let her kill you. It is one of many options.
  8. Well I don't need a guide so unless you have more starter tips I'd say no, but thanks for the tips you already gave me.
  9. Thanks for informing me. I don't remember it in Prey and Duke Nukem (both were a long time ago for me) and I haven't played the others.
  10. I always thought the point of BG2 was to bring them back. I can't actually recall there being an option to kill them but maybe there was and I just never noticed. Or the Dear Esther variant, your wife is dead, go walk around.
  11. Finally bought Skyrim when it was on sale recently. Anyone got any advice before I get into it?
  12. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/66439-divinity-original-sin/page-28 New thread to discuss Divinity Original Sin because the last was super long.
  13. Time for a new part. Lookie here: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/68626-divinity-original-sin/
  14. I guess when a lot of the alternatives boil down to "the love of your life has been corrupted so you must execute her in cold blood", even Dear Esther is starting to look good. I've never actually seen that scenario in a game.
  15. Dear Esther didn't...? Who in their right mind would say that? The game practically runs on Women In Refrigerators! The core of the game is literally a story of discovery by a man motivated solely by the violent death of his wife!
  16. Hell yes, Tim Miller is going to knock that out of the ballpark. [/blurstudiosfanboy]
  17. Fair enough, Fighter. I think the issues are more with the journalists who support her than her own transgressions, but I guess we can agree to disagree. I wanted to share this perspective from the link I posted earlier:
  18. Fighter, I respect your opinion and you have a point but I wish you would make it in a more helpful manner and keep to facts that are actually pertinent. Calmer minds prevail. Personally, I consider her to be a pretty awful person based on the evidence I've seen. But that opinion is completely unimportant to the issues at hand and so is whether or not Zoe Quinn slept with journalists. The issue there is not Zoe, but the journalists who knowingly did that and thus created a conflict of interest. Publicly attacking her for cheating on her boyfriend? Overstepping bounds - that's not our business and is just ****-shaming, plain and simple. Now for the fact of the TFYC case that actually affects games? That one's pertinent. If anything, she should never be allowed near a Game Jam again for that alone. Even so, none of it actually excuses harassment. Anyone post this yet? A bunch of different perspectives from Game Developers (anonymous or otherwise) and other involved (such as the actual originator of NotYourShield, who is NOT from 4chan): http://www.nichegamer.net/2014/09/real-gamedevs-sound-off-regarding-the-gamergate-controversy/
  19. Not only this forum but the GamerGate movement has on large condemned the harassment and defamation of Zoe Quinn as well as Anita Sarkeesian. I think where you get the movement wrong is the assertion you made earlier in the thread that the allegations against Zoe Quinn galvanized people into a movement. That's not true, at least not from my perspective as someone who supports GamerGate and NotYourShield. Most of us didn't know who Zoe Quinn was nor cared about who slept with her until Gaming Media decided to come in and completely misrepresent it as well as holding their audience responsible by making them out to be a culture that condones harassment. That action is what galvanized people, because journalists are supposed to give people the facts in a objective manner so the consumer can make their own informed decision and they completely overstepped their boundaries. There are other events that galvanized people before, such as the sacking of Jeff Gerstwinn and "DoritoGate" but most of Games Media joined in with their consumer base in condemning it, or at least owned up to it. That isn't the case here. In fact, at this point the continued effort from Games Media to make this about Zoe and Anita is, in my opinion, a transparent attempt to paint targets on their heads to divert attention away from themselves because this was never really about them. It's why Kotaku posted news about a months old bomb threat against Anita just as their own writers were coming under fire (even if the source was just a ridiculous Breitbart article). It fits the narrative they create about gaming culture being a culture of violent misogynists while throwing Anita under the bus to divert attention away from the allegations against themselves. If Games Media would have stopped championing Zoe and Anita as if being harassed somehow gives you credibility and censoring all other viewpoints, and instead actually owned up to and reasonably responded to the allegations against them (like The Escapist did), then people would have left the two of them alone weeks ago. I think some of these people, especially Leigh Alexander and Ben Kuchera, share a small measure of responsibility for the harassment of these two women. They have consistently painted targets on them for the trolls to go to so they could hide behind them.
  20. Good luck Woldan. I'm tired as heck because they had me on hourly vitals so Every hour at night they checked my pulse and my temperature. Also they were worried about seizures so I had to sleep in the "secure" section (basically a dolled up jail cell) on a mattress on the floor because they didn't have any medical beds that would hold me in the bed if I had a seizure. Today it took five hours to see a psyciatrist and the doc basically said "Well, you seem to be doing better so I'm gonna get you discharged". Well, I'm glad you're back and at least "seem to be doing better". Looks like everyone in this thread is doing hospital or doctor stuff. My last hospital visit (I've mentioned it before) included taking blood for testing and now I've got a giant bruise where the blood was tapped.
  21. Malc: Hm I've never considered his SJW tendencies to be out of line, but to be fair I remember you referring to me as an SJW before Malc. I always felt he made good points and was very rarely smug about it - well, more smug than he was about everything else, anyway. It was always made clear that it was an opinion editorial piece and not some sort of review. Orogun: Thanks for the clarification. He can come across as smug but I felt that was more of a persona than anything else. Like Yahtzee's Curmudgeon schtick.
  22. Orogun, can you tell me why "we" hate Jim Sterling?
  23. I can see that. I have my own problems with the pro-GamerGate side, but at the moment I will continue to support because I have more problems with the anti-GamerGate side. I think the difference between Sommers and Sarkeesian is that Sommers presents data on and has been looking at gamers and their behaviour, not games specifically. She cites studies that have been done and though she gives opinions, she backs them up with factual information. Whereas Sarkeesian created her own study that was horribly researched and terribly misrepresented to further her own agenda. Yes, Sommers is likely doing it to further an agenda but she does make good points when Sarkeesian, with one or two exceptions, really did not. Don't get me wrong, I seriously condemn the people who have threatened, attacked and harassed Sarkeesian over her videos. One of the things that I agree with Jim Sterling on (still not sure why I'm supposed to hate him) is that I disagree with what she says but I will defend her right to say it. I don't consider Sarkeesian's videos to be a problem at all, but the fact that she gets harassed over it does not automatically give her any sort of credibility. Like what you say about some people of GamerGate presenting Sommers video as the ultimate truth applies doubly to the other side because they are journalists with reach and a front of at least partial objectivity which gives them a responsibility to their audience. I agree that Sommers' video doesn't give any kind of ultimate proof either, but at least she is more credible than Sarkeesian. You're correct that some GamerGate supporters (as well as opponents) have been hardlined into some kind of "us vs. them" mentality and see these kinds of things as "victories" but I guess that happens in an opinion conflict that lasts this long. I was very disappointed when people considered the racketeering allegations against Phil Fish "a victory" instead of what it is, which is an extremely sad moment for games media.
