I might be offended if I defined myself as "white man", but how I was born does not define me or anyone else. Hey I noted my confusion about that I couldn't tell, tone on the internet is hard to read! I was of two minds about it. Erik Kain did a great job organising those debates. This is how it's done. I also respect Greg Tito for showing up and speaking up for the journalists in the face of the entire internet scrutinizing him. I may not agree with most of his arguments (i.e. boycott being censorship) but that took some stones. You made excellent points on why that Verge article isn't valid. I didn't have the strength for that and instead lashed out. I'm sorry. But do think Bruce will reply to your points? No. He will simply go silent for few pages and then come back when the next "gamers are dead" article is posted: "Oh, look! All those valid points this article is making." *Smiley face* I don't need him to reply. I'm pretty sure he read it, regardless of whether or not he acknowledges it. At the same time, let's say Bruce is objectively in the wrong here. Does it mean he can be lumped in with people doing harassment? It's that sort of behaviour that made this whole mess happen in the first place. Here's a good rule of thumb: If Leigh Alexander would do it, intelligent people shouldn't. See, this is the kind of thing that ****ing pisses me off. Ironically, it makes my SJW blood boil because these ****ing **** are super racist and if they are supposed to be the open-minded people, then the human race is ****ing doomed. How can they be so ****ing racist and still pretend to be the good guys? It's things like this that make me want to go right back and go unabashedly Pro#GG because it would actually be defending minorities from white mansplaining hipster douchebags. But I'm not going to, because minorities in #GG have consistently proven they can stand up for themselves just fine and don't need me to it for them.

No, but I mean literally only like a quarter of his videos are even in character as Francis. It's not his constant persona, when he's posting on Twitter he's not being "Francis, angry nerd extraordinaire", he's just being Steven, intelligent, compassionate and well-spoken man.
-
I can't tell whether or not you know Francis is a character and Boogie =/= Francis.

Or just introduce ourselves in every conversation with "hi, my name is ... and my hand is busted".

Complicated fracture of both bones in my dominant arm after a biking accident a couple of years back. Damaged some nerves and tendons and it never really healed right. It's slowly getting better, but I still have reduced mobility which doesn't really go well with art.

Enjoy it while you can, it goes sharply downhill after season 5 ends, and it's already lagging then. Still, the best Hellblazer adaptation so far.

I miss being able to draw. I think I'm going to try and train myself to draw with my left hand.

Gamergate sort of is, this movement is opposed to censoring games, it generally consists of people believing people should be able to choose what kind of games they want to play, not just what fits some journalists SJW agenda, granted the sites are pussies and don't dare to take on giants like GTA, so our right to murder virtual prostitutes isn't under attack, but being able to murder virtual prostitutes is a key part of freedom of expression. I suppose that's true, but that doesn't make it any less of a misrepresentation.

This blog made me laugh so hard I cried, and those of you who knew a certain Codex member might find it funny too. http://daddywarpig.wordpress.com/2014/10/09/how-to-kill-gamergate-in-2-easy-steps-which-kotaku-polygon-and-the-verge-wont-even-try/ The abridged version:

Nah that's not possible, I only mod a couple forums. There was two minutes between me closing the other thread and making this one! -

Yeah Bruce, calling that article valid demonstrates a pretty bad lapse in judgement, no offense. It is full of hyperbole, strawmen and false comparisons and you clearly did not look at it with the same critical eye you use on pro-GamerGate articles. It shows clear bias on your part (I'm making no value judgement on whether or not this is intentional) where you take sources representing your point of view as more credible than sources that do not represent your point of view, whether that source is credible or not. Examples: - It misrepresents GamerGate members as "Right-Wing Obstinates" when the only relevant research done has shown that by far the majority of GamerGate is left-wing libertarian. Now, this research isn't perfect and also came from biased sources but it is demonstrably fact based and the only demonstable factual problem is that the sample size is small. Since this is the only factual research done at this point, its conclusions should be treated as factual making the truth of the matter to be libertarian vs. authoritarian rather than left vs right. - "The kind of internet detective work that caught the wrong Boston Bomber," implies that all the things uncovered by GamerGate are false, which isn't true. - The use of the term sock-puppets in the context of GamerGate implies that #NotYourShield supporters are fake accounts. I know several in real life, so demonstrably untrue. - Nearly all article references are to biased sources and op-ed pieces that present no evidence. You accused me of scraping the bottom of the barrel before, but these guys blow me out of the water. One of the links he presents is a forum post. You cannot criticize me for posting Twitter messages as evidence before and then come out and say this article is valid. - It prefaces the section mentioning Christina Hoff Sommers, registered Democrat, as being about right-wing reactionaries. - T.C. Sottek, the writer, has zero qualifications but dismisses Professor Christina Hoff Sommers' fact based research regarding chauvinism in feminist movements out of hand. - Based on his earlier articles, the writer is already biased against video games, gamers and game developers. One such article claims Blizzard Entertainment is a willfull, malicious drug dealer. Another claims the latest Magic: The Gathering game isn't inclusive on account of being too hard to understand for laymen and the high level card sets being unaffordable to poor people (just click is name in the article and look at them yourself). He routinely makes things up and presents it as evidence, or parrots things others have made up as evidence. - It compares GameJournoPros to the JournoList controversy and then claims neither had a real scandal. Factual untruth, JournoList was a real scandal and journalists admitted to collusion to smear specific politicians, and several lost their jobs over it. It shows clear bias favouring journalists and shows that the writer will, to put it bluntly, just make **** up. - Claims #GamerGate originated from 4chan, demonstrably untrue. It originated from Adam Baldwin. - Claims #NotYourShield is an astroturfing campaign orchestrated by 4chan, which has been repeatedly proven to be false. - Compares #GamerGate to people fighting to not allow gay people to marry, which is demonstrably untrue hyperbole. Nobody in GamerGate says women or minorities can't play video games, at worst the most mysoginistic portions of GamerGate say they want them to play video games as long as it's not "at cost" of video games (a dumb argument, but still doesn't apply) and at best GamerGaters (such as John Bain, Janelle Bonnano, Erik Kain, Brad Wardell) welcome and implore minorities to become part of the community. - It claims GamerGaters are related to the people that perpetrated several instances of harassment completely unrelated to GamerGate (the abuse against Zelda Williams, the leaking of celebrity nude photos), of which there is no evidence. - Claims GamerGate is defending their right to murder virtual prostitutes, which is untrue. In fact, GamerGate has criticised many outlets for their hypocrisy because they gave the Grand Theft Auto series extremely high ratings while proceeding to lambast it for being a misogynistic murder simulator that "turns people into bigots" at the same time. - In a comment he himself makes on the article, he says all of GamerGates claims regarding journalistic integrity are false (his words: a conspiracy theory with no basis in reality) when several of them have already been demonstrated to be true, which is another instance of the writer just making things up and presenting them as fact. The article and its writer have no credibility, no qualifications and no facts. It's simply put, a bunk piece of sensationalism. It's not a valid article, it's a baseless op-ed piece masquerading as journalism. Since that is the very essence of the ethical problem GamerGate opposes it is clearly biased - this guy stands for exactly what GamerGate stands against, of course he's going to be opposed it. In short, be better Bruce. At the same time, I do not approve of people constantly attacking you in abusive and ridiculing ways and I wish they would stop. We are trying to have a discussion here and that's not helpful. If anything, they are giving weight to the claims that Gamers want to shut dissenting voices up.

We have an entire board dedicated to this game, which is why I'm bloody well moving it there.

Was completely clean. Cat's recovering from infection, probably just didn't make it. No.

TotalBiscuit is a very rational person, it took a lot of dumb behaviour from anti-GG people to rouse that giant, but I watched the stream he did with Erik Kain and Janelle Bonanno (Editor-in-Chief of GameFront.com) and she was by far the most sensible person in it. I was very impressed by her. She made her pro-GamerGate points with passion and logic, which isn't something a lot of people can combine. I hadn't heard of GameFront.com but it's definitely on my read list now. If anything, the good the thing about GG is that it's really shown me which gaming resources are worth listening to and which aren't, which is a lot better than my previous stance of "all gaming resources are worthless by default". The bad thing is that it's given people like Leigh Alexander and Milo Yiannapolis a bigger voice thanks to have an entrenched support network to fall back on. I mean honestly, nobody knew or cared who either of these two jerks were (despite Ms. Alexander's claims to the contrary) before they started stirring the controversy pot.
-
Yep, that was pretty shameful - except I was right in the middle of that (supporting Devi) and a lot of GGers did say they condemned Milo's views on transwomen. : / It's not exactly as clear cut as "all of GG hates trans women", though it's this sort of behaviour from some GGers that caused me to stop supporting GG.

Bruce, this isn't "dey hurt mah feels", if it was just some dumb troll saying this nobody would care. But it's not some random trolls. It's George Reese, Dell Executive. It's Devin Faraci, Editor of Badass Digest. It's people with respect, following, jobs, they have weight. When someone like that says it, it brings a lot more credibility and possible consequences to a statement like that. It's an absolutely ridiculous statement that suddenly becomes a lot less ridiculous and at best leads only to shunning of people for playing video games, but at worst to the downplaying of the importance of the ISIS problem. That's the thing I'm most offended by, it suggests ISIS isn't really that bad. Either way, the claim is so outlandish that no intelligent person would speak it. Hence, these people should be removed from offices that require intelligent people. EDIT: Dell, not Intel. Typo.

UAT also pulled their ads from Gamasutra.
-
The sad thing is there's not much GG can do about it. People say GG should self-police itself better if they are really against this behaviour but how do you police anonymous trolls? It's been suggested they should move to another term or hashtag if they wanted to have a serious debate not marred by toxic people, but what would that do? Opponents would just point out "this came from GG" in the same way they claimed "this came from 4chan" or "this came from abuse" so there would still be no discussion.
-
As much as that jab made me laugh, let's not make this into an extension of the other thread guys.
-
I tend to see plenty of messages come by saying "we've won this battle" and there's a serious "if you aren't with me you're against me" attitude among both sides. They are polarized and entrenched. It's pretty much two groups of militants at this point being **** to each other.
-
Oh, my bad then. The juxtaposition of the two in that sentence made it look like you were still putting them in opposite camps. To be fair, I don't hitch my name to the term GamerGate anymore though I still support their goals. The trolls and militants seriously damaged it with abuse and pretending it's a "war". There are a lot of good people in there but they are being held back. Still, the abuse and trolling on their side pales compared to the trolling and abuse I've seen coming from the people who oppose GG.
-
Are we still on this? GG is not against equality. Everyone except Jezebel readers knows this by now. Actually, honestly, maybe some GG supporters are. Trolls are using GG as a front for harassment and some GG supporters have become militant (note how this is a bad thing for them as much as it is for feminists). Doesn't mean that GG is about it. That is, and has been all this time, a misrepresentation by biased media. Trolls do not represent GG, which is a consumer revolt from a diverse group and not an organized movement. I'm not going to say that GG is still innocent at this time. Championing Milo and Adam Baldwin despite their ridiculous views just because they are on the side of GamerGate is about as ridiculous as anything Leigh Alexander says. But on a whole, the actual consumers with good intentions are the majority of GG and their cause is just and most of all - not about holding back social justice.
