Actually he did make the darth rule.

Some sidequests do follow the main storyline. Such as Bastilla's in Kotor 1 with her mom. If you were dark side and decided to let Bastilla be selfish and keep the holocron for herself than that could be a result of her falling to the dark side.

Back to the Darth thing. How can they have Darth in their name when Darth Bane doesn't even exist yet? He is the one that made the rule.

I must say that I am not a big fan of Bastilla either, but my reasons are different. I don't mid how she looks, but her personality is just plain annoying.
