Finished the game... and have questions
SamuraiGaijin replied to Luke Skywhacker's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Saw the title of this thread and thought ... "go figure - everyone has questions after the end of the game" I always focus on Handmaiden more than Visas when playing LS male, and dig into her background as much as possible ... there's probably some initial dialog that will trigger her telling you her name, and it's probably based on whether or not you convert her to Jedi and talk with her about her parents. The most straightforward way is, after a couple of time sparring with her, suit up in armor, convince her that fighting unencumbered is unrealistic, and then comment on how her robes look like Jedi robes - then talk to Kreia about it, and discuss again with Handmaiden. There are a couple of other ways to get to the dialog, but this should always work, if you have enough influence (beating her sparring, and talking about it usually does the trick). Also, if (for some reason) you need more money or components, you can unequip her robes, and talk to her again for another set - wash, rinse, repeat. -
Speculation on the Jedi Masters
SamuraiGaijin replied to DAWUSS's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I liked Atris as a character - and would like to see more of her - however, even in the light side ending, where you did you darnedest to save her and make her see that immersing herself in the knowledge of the Sith was bad, there's no real indication that she will turn back to the LS. Also, in the LS ending, it Kreia says that Brianna will take over as Jedi Historian. Of course, if you're playing DS, chances are you kill her or leave her to suffer among the Sith holocrons - opening the door for her to return possibly as a Darth Traya of sorts in K3. This (and other major differences in the plot on the LS and DS paths) is going to make a sequel either very difficult to craft, or unfulfilling to those of us who would like to see questions answered. -
How to level up <yourname> crystal?
SamuraiGaijin replied to Marn's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Without cheating/exploiting for additional levels, I have not been able to get max power on the crystal - it isn't incremental (i.e.: every three levels after you acquire the crystal), it's based on current level. At very high level (at least 30, but I'm not sure exactly ... yet), you are able to get the crystal at max power on the first try (good if you picked Dantooine for last). -
The NPC AI was something they admitted starting to work on too late in the process to have much effect. I typically leave Mandalore, Mira, and Atton on "ranged" (even after converting Mira and Atton) - this keeps them at distance, using blasters, etc. until and enemy attacks them in melee. While it doesn't keep them from killing off your targets as you're charging into melee, it helps. Kreia, Visas, Handmaiden, Disciple are left on Jedi Support (I usually don't use HM in the party until after converting her). HK-47, T3-M4, G0-T0 = stationary - works best for ranged weapons, and generally keeps them out of melee. Hanharr = aggressive (what else?). Grenadier theoretically should encourage your party members to attack enemies other than your targets (default attack is with grenades, unless they'll affect another party member - but I haven't tried this much - I usually sell or breakdown grenades). When strictly going after mines (the minefield on Telos, for example) I usually go solo, leaving the others out of sight. It's a little more frustrating during the Onderon battle, but even after they charge up the Sky Ramp or down the palace passageways (through the minefields), there's usually one or two mines left to clean up for XP.

dude - to get past the first dialog with the handmaidens, you have to first refuse to give up your weapons, then allow them to take them - you'll then be taken to talk with Atris. if you agree right away, the game gets stuck in the manner you describe.

My guess is ... LA has determined that in spite of the facts that is was released as an incomplete, rushed, and buggy game ... it is successful (made profit), is winning awards (not as many as K1, but still a few, which is good for a sequel), and still has an active and devoted following (namely, us). While we would all be ecstatic if OE was commissioned to devote resources to fixing the game ... and LA devoted resources to QA it ... LA is resolved to call the game "good enough" and move on to something else. If only LA would take a hint from Blizzard's success as an example of a designer that will never release a game that isn't fully tested - and will shamelessly release patches to add balance fixes, bug and exploit fixes, expansion packs to add content, and never be satisfied with "good enough". (For example, 1 expansion pack, and at least 14 patches later, StarCraft is still being played at major conventions worldwide - mostly due to non-US following - heck, there was a time when you could watch top players battle it out on TV here in Japan !!) I'm glad to have the game, as flawed as it is. While I wish LA would admit that it is incomplete, rushed, and buggy - I'm not holding my breath.

I've been waiting patiently for this little bit of dialog to be discussed, and somehow, I think the topic will quickly get derailed into an arguement about how the game was unfinished, and the ending sucks, blah, blah, blah, ad nauseum ... But anyway ... In the final dialog with Kreia, she mentions Mira's "true father" ... has anyone dug into the cut dialog files and found anything else that refers to her heritage ?? Mira believes that her parents died on Malachor V, other than that, I can't seem to find anything. The obvious answer (for the Star Wars Universe, anyway) is Canderous ... cheesy imaginary dialog to follow ... Canderous: You were never told what happened to your father. Mira: I was told enough ... they died at Malachor V. Canderous: No, I am you father. Mira: ... Dad ?? Canderous: With our combined strength, we can defeat the Sith, and the Republic, G0-T0 has calculated this. Together, we can rule the galaxy as father and daughter.

Speculation on the Jedi Masters
SamuraiGaijin replied to DAWUSS's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The naming convention of wars is a tricky subject, even in our own histroy ... for example, nearly all of the battles in the American Civil War / War Between the States / War of Northern Aggression had two names - based on the nearest town or nearest geographic feature - the only common theme is that the name the victors used is more often the one accepted by history. In general, the common theme in the Star Wars "history" is to name wars after whatever aspect made them different from previous wars. The "Jedi Civil War" was different from most others in that the key leaders on both sides were at one time members of the Jedi Order - and since the victorious side in the Jedi Civil War is determined in K2 by dialog choices, "Jedi Civil War" seems to be a good compromise. -
Mandalore quests and the Light Side
SamuraiGaijin replied to Luke Skywhacker's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
My view on this, is that you get the DS points for shaming Kumus in the eyes of the Mandalorians - I don't remember if you get a LS points for saving him in the first place. -
Speculation on the Jedi Masters
SamuraiGaijin replied to DAWUSS's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Interesting dialog ... I'm going to focus on one point, however ... He has access to the knowledge and power of the exchange, and I dare say an advanced interstellar civilization like the Republic has historic records and theses at least as good as those we can produce in the real world today. Add to this that GOTO was a droid built by the Republic to save the Republic and that he has been studying jedi for that sake, since he realises the important function they serve as figureheads in the Republic, and you have an exceedinly good basis for thinking GOTO may indeed know an awful lot about the subject. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> G0-T0 is, by his own admission, an "infrastructure droid" which implies that his expertise is managing the supporting elements of power and control in general - commodities trade, military support, communications, energy, etc. - in order for him to predict and influence the rise or fall of the Republic, he would have examined how these various elements had changed and what had caused those changes. With the resources available to him - just as a legitimate "infrastructure droid" - on Telos through the Republic databases, it appears that he determined that the only way to save the Republic was to break Republic law by involving himself in the illegal aspects of trade. He also saw the value of both the Jedi and Sith (and keeping a balance between the two). -
There are so many ways to approach this ... however, I'm going with a 1x male, 1x female, 1x droid, with 1x jedi mix for all possibilities (plus, while I like the "Charlie's Angels" team, a good mix of demographics and backgrounds would make for a better story) Badass combat team: - Mandalore (Incredibly strong in-fighter, and pretty good with the appropriate feats/items and dual blaster wield) - HK-47 (Assassination protocols give bonus damage to criticals - dual keen disrupter pistols all the way - plus great comic relief) - Mira (converted to Jedi - the "best bounty hunet on Nar Shadda" AND a capable LSaber fighter, plus enough force powers to keep everyone at their best) Sneaky "infiltrate against all odds" team: - Bao Dur (not converted to Jedi ... skills capabilty beyond comparison) - G0-T0 (can go stealth, there to tackle the computer systems and droids Bao Dur can't handle, and can trick other droids onto your side - added bonus of character conflict between G0-T0 and Bao Dur's remote) - Visas (select skills to improve carefully, but divide LS and DS force powers evenly and keep CHA high to offset FP cost ... if only she could raise her veil and seduce her way into places, howevr, with Kelly Hu's voice, she could seduce her way in by comlink) Traditional Star Wars Light Side Team: - Handmaiden (converted to Jedi ... badass LSaber fighter, enough force powers to keep things interesting) - T3-M4 (quirky but loyal astromech droid, with skills to get the team out of trouble and enough combat capability to hold his own - especially with his shock arm and auto-repair module) - Atton (some character conflict with Handmaiden, but nothing serious ... maxed in dueling for good ranged and melee capability) Traditional Star Wars Dark Side Team: - Hanharr (wookie rage, can smash through nearly anything) - HK-47 (see above) - Visas (max DEX, max Stealth, LSaber finesse with a double saber will make for impressive visuals, and max DS Force powers)

What's the deal with Bastila?
SamuraiGaijin replied to Luke Skywhacker's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
And someone (Atris, I believe the consensus from another thread determined) posted information about you in all the galactic databases ... leading Kreia to you, and leading G0-T0 to put a bounty on your head, causing all the trouble that got you to Peragus, and all the trouble on Peragus, in the first place. All of the LS Jedi/Masters you encounter were in hiding, after Nihilus' attack on Visas' homeworld (Katarn ?? - I'm crappy with most names) ... - Bastila - unknown where she was, but most likely with Carth (if you chose Revan as LS - if you chose DS Revan, it doesn't matter - she was DS and left behind to run the Sith academy on Korriban) - The remaining Masters (Zez, Vrook, Vash, Kavar, Atris) are in hiding on the various planets you visit throughout the game, and most give some clue as to why. You don't encounter any other LS Jedi, which leads me to two possible conclusions ... 1. you are the only other remaining (previously, before being cut off from the force and subsequently exiled) LS Jedi - or - 2. the few others that didn't assemble on Katarn are in hiding, avoiding detection in order to prevent another attack by Nihilus Spelling of Bastila corrected ... like I said, I'm crappy with names ... -
How to level up <yourname> crystal?
SamuraiGaijin replied to Marn's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
One of these days I'm going to try and figure out exactly what levels the crystal powers up on (there are nine levels of strength) ... and there are five "versions" of the crystal, based on alignment (very dark, dark, neutral, light, and very light). Very Dark - increases Attack, Damage (DS damage type), STR, DEX, and CHA (up to +3/+5/+7/+5/+6) - additional massive Critical and Knockdown abilities Dark - increases Attack, Damage (DS), STR, DEX, CHA (up to +3/+5/+7/+5/+6) - additional Knockdown ability Neutral - increases Attack, STR, DEX, CON, WIS, CHA (up to +3/+4/+4/+5/+5/+4) - additional Force Resist bonus Light - increases Attack, Damage (LS), STR, DEX, WIS (up to +3/+5/+5/+6/+7) - additional Slow ability Very Light - increases Attack, Damage (LS), STR, DEX, WIS (up to +3/+5/+5/+6/+7) - additional Slow ability, and does bonus damage against DS opponents -
Question about Revan and the first Atton convo
SamuraiGaijin replied to Xan433's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The only major difference is in the background stories you're told ... whether Carth or Bastilla was the love interest ... whether Revan destroyed the Star Forge and saved the Republic (only to abandon his/her friends and head off into the Unknown Regions), or abandoned the Star Forge (and the Sith) and headed off into the Unknown Regions. Any real impact to gameplay ... no ... but a couple of the cooler dialog cutscenes are triggered by these choices. -
The Korriban tomb, and the vision of Revan.
SamuraiGaijin replied to KOTORFanactic's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
He did bring balance to the force ... two LS jedi, two Sith ... -
Walking through one of the doorways leading from the refugee sector landing pad to one of the other areas (either the docks or the sector, but I can't remember which) should trigger the Red Eclipse Slaver fight. I had the same problem, too, since I was constantly using the airspeeder to get around, and wouldn't trigger the cutscene.

Bored so who did you hate the most from both KotOR
SamuraiGaijin replied to Kalfear's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
UPDATE: I've played enough of my DS PC to modify these opinions ... = HK-47: shift to neutral ... while some of his dialog options took too long (IMO) to build influence for, they are interesting ... I definitely appreciated the pointers on how to kill Jedi. = G0-T0: shift to neutral ... annoying, but an interesting story. = Hanharr: shift to dislike ... while the bonuses definitely make the story worthwhile, and some of the dialog options you get to make are quite in character for my manipulative bitch DSF, I didn't like the story. So, I guess the real question is, why do all the NPC's come with so much emotional baggage ?? ... even the droids are neurotic !! -
I had major low framerate/warping problems in K1 on Dantooine and the Star Forge Planet with my 5700 Ultra ... if I disabled grass and blur, it eliminated the problem. The only place I've had any trouble in K2 (not with my old 5700 Ultra but with my new 6600 GT - odd ...) was on Dantooine, and only when Koonda was in view ... I think it had to do with the fog coming out of the vents. Of course, with my new card, I'm playing 1280x1024, 4x/4x, and all the effects on ... with my 5700, I knew better than to push the graphics quality that high.

4. Even if Bastila was on the planet (or on Citadel station) when the Exile confronted Darth Nihilus (which I don't think is the case ... she was most likely with the Republic Fleet), the only Jedi that the Exile would have known to be on Telos would have been Atris (if she survived the encounter with the Exile). Also, Bastila doesn't show if you picked Revan to be female. So I see a few possibilities ... (1) the Exile's lying (not likely, especially since the game doesn't give you a [LIE] option here) ... (2) the Exile doesn't think that one or two Jedi is sufficient to satisfy N's hunger (most likely) ... (3) an inconsistancy/shortcut in the dialog (probable, and fits with (2)).

This is something that I think can be improved on in the games - the "ready" or "alert" stance should be different for the different LSaber Forms ... Nick Guillard went through the trouble to develop distinct LSaber fighting styles for the different Jedi in Ep 1-3, you'd think the game could borrow some of that. I really enjoyed Obi-Wan and Anakin's fight in this regard - they often were using the same techniques against each other - it was obvious that Anakin had learned most of his form from Obi-Wan.

how many people despire malachor V
SamuraiGaijin replied to a topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I liked K1's Star Forge ending because: - you could bring other party members !!! - fighting the mass of Malak's followers was difficult - there was some drama (resolution of Bastila's being turned by Malak) - the "droid dispenser" fight could make use of more than just combat ability - the DS/LS endings really were distinct (you were either hero of the Republic or conqueror of the Sith, and acknowledged as such in a cool cinematic) I disliked it because: - linear map - but there were choices to make (save Bastila, or kill her, particularly) that had an impact on character development and the end of the game - they kept on coming - party management was frustrating - Malak respawning ten times was just uncalled for Strangely, the reasons I disliked it were aspects that actually added to the difficulty - and the difficulty was something that I liked. I liked K2' malachor V ending because: - workbench allowed me to make final tweaks to equipment - Sion's fall was fairly well resolved - visually, it was interesting (not beautiful, but interesting) I disliked it because: - everywhere we go, we crash (ok, not everywhere, but no less than four times in the game - Atton must be a really crappy pilot) - solo adventure - the storm beasts (including the big one) were pushovers - very few of the Dark Jedi/Sith encountered provided much more than a minor threat - linear map, with no choices whatsoever, and unnecessarily difficult to navigate on the surface - the Bao-Dur/Remote/G0-T0 sequence was wasted time - the Mira/Hanharr resolution was unnecessary (but could have been a good sequence if there had been some sort of follow through with the others) - no real resolution regarding the other party members (sure Kreia/Traya tells you their future - which was cool - but I want visuals !!! I didn't spend hours playing the game to read dialog) - no real resolution between Kreia and the Exile (cryptic b!tch) - no real resolution regarding the final choice, and what it means to the Exile - the Exile, Kreia, and Atris were the only ones who knew there was any threat to the galaxy -
KotoR 3: Ideas and Suggestions
SamuraiGaijin replied to Fionavar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
No - there were some Sith Commandos, but no mercenaries on Malachor V I agree that the lack of a cohesive enemy was a failing - and even the Sith, which should have been a menacing threat, were real pushovers. The first Dark Jedi you had to face in K1 on Taris was more difficult than any of the Sith Assassin encounters, and the first encounter with the groups of three Dark Jedi (on Kashyykk or Tatooine) was pretty tough. I think they were planning to have a similar threat with the HK-50's, but lost interest when the droid factory was cut from content. -
Finally, my opinions/suggestions of KOTOR 2
SamuraiGaijin replied to Eight_Nunb's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
- If you're going to be expected to complete the game with about 30 force powers, make them useful, or make them upgradable beyond three levels - same goes with feats. While the Weaponmaster/Marauder improved on this some, it wasn't enough. One option would be to allow specialization in the Force Forms, as well. I definitely didn't mean we need a longer list of choices ... I meant it should have five or so levels of mastery, if the game must have level progression beyond 20 (if it must follow the d20 ruleset).
