  1. In your BIOS ... at the main screen you should be able to access a screen labeled "Advance Chipset Features", from there you should have an option the select either "Init Display First" or "Primary VGA BIOS" ... select AGP. While this does not completely disable the Intel Graphics on your mobo, it does force the computer to look to your graphics card first.
  2. ftp://aiedownload.intel.com/df-support/94...eadme_2k_xp.txt Have you thoroughly read (and followed the directions in) the read_me file? You're really better off just disabling the thing, though - compared to almost any add-in VGA card, it's crap.
  3. When I enter BIOS, there isn't any option to disable or enable the onboard video...so, that means I probably don't have the onboard graphics. From the Award BIOS FAQ ... try this: Question: My AGP video card is not functioning properly, why? Answer: In the CMOS Setup, under the Integrated Peripherals screen and set the 'Init Display First' setting to AGP slot. By the way, according to the BIOWARE site, you do have "Intel Extreme Graphics 2", which is essentially a very crappy 3d graphics accelerator.
  4. Got to agree with most comments ... while most 5.1 cards (and even most onboard 5.1 solutions now) sound fine for most purposes, Sound Blaster is leading the pack ... has been for years. I've got an Audigy 2 ZS in my system, and don't plan on upgrading anytime soon, but if I was building a gaming rig (or Home-Theater PC, or started editing sound or video) with completely new parts today, I'd definitely go with X-Fi.
  5. Not everyone with a PC NEEDS a CPU that can handle all that ... some people need CPU's that can provide maximum performance and add-in processors that can handle specific "grunt-work" ... which is why VGA's (and in the short future, Physics accelerators) will continue be popular among gamers (especially) and professionals (scientists, engineers, etc.) who need the extra CPU cycles to handle number-crunching other than graphics and physics. Think "Twister" ... the premise was they couldn't simulate, so they had to measure ... now, maybe they could simulate (wouldn't make for much of movie, though). Could revolutionize all sorts of engineering fields (or at least make them more afforable) ... aerospace, auto, architecture, etc., etc. Now, the possibilities for gaming are pretty amazing ... I don't know if current flight sims can accurately depict flying through turbulence ... this should make it possible. Also, flying a space sim through a constantly-changing asteroid field (think Empire Strikes Back) or a capital ship blowing up into a million pieces (instead of a handful of chunks) or realistically ricocheting bullets or shattering glass. Of course, game designers will have to embrace the technology to make it marketable ... I look forward to that. edit: hmm ... should have read page 2 ... I agree that using this amazing physics computing capability to more realistically simulate a dead enemy is a waste (cool, and probably satisfying, but a waste) ... make gameplay more realistic, yes - make violence more realistic ... not necessary.
  6. You just bought the card ... isn't it under warranty? Also, you previously stated you had 512MB RAM ... is that one stick or two? Memory is best used in pairs ... three 256MB sticks of RAM will only show as 512MB in most systems ... If you have 2 sticks of 256MB (now 3) I recommend buying 2 512MB sticks. shadowriath, while I agree that the best option is to not have onboard video, but if he's "disposable-cash-limited" we can't very well justify buying a new mobo just to play a game. BTW ... - you can disable onboard video in the BIOS without incident if you have a VGA card installed - not all 8XX or 9XX series mobos have onboard graphics - from BIOWARE's website ... http://www.biostar-usa.com/mbdetails.asp?model=p4tsv ... the P4TSV does have an AGP slot and supports PC3200 (DDR 400) RAM.
  7. I suspect your problem is either the onboard video (the BIOWARE P4TSV does have Intel 3d Video) or your video driver. I recommend the following ... (1) Ensure you've uninstalled the ATi driver. (2) Install the latest NVidia Driver. (3) Disable your onboard videa in the BIOS.
  8. If you follow the class-selection guideline from KOTOR I ... Guardians focus on combat (the game is heavily combat-oriented, so this is a logical choice ... force jump is awesome) Sentinels focus on investigation and problem solving (buffed skills make it easier to solve the game-mechanic-based problems and unlock occaisional gems in the dialog ... not so useful, but nice in K1 ... HK-47 upgrades/dialog, Cheaper Star Forge Robes, Easy solution to the Star Forge Droid battle are a few specific examples ... but very useful in K2 ... workbench options, dialog options, T3-M4 upgrades/secrets, XP for opening stuff, XP for disabling mines, etc. ... the immunities Sentinels get are also pretty darn sweet) Consulars focus on diplomacy and mastering knowledge of the force (again, the game is combat-oriented, so maxed force powers make you virtually unstoppable) K2 Prestige classes are a different argument altogether ... Watchman/Assassin are pretty much useless (with the exception of continued skill progression) Weapon Master/Marauder are brutal in combat (especially with the bonus attack form the last force form and added bonuses from the extra feats ... I just wish they had included improved Duelling feats, not just dual-weilding) Jedi Master/Sith Lord are devastating with their force powers (but what Jedi isn't by 20th level? ... the extended duration force form is cool, especially when applied to the LS Enlightenment bonus power ... and the extra damage force form is also cool for Sith Lords, but let's face it, there's not a challenge in the game that warrants this much power) My choice is Sentinel ... I would prefer my Jedi characters be problem-solvers rather than diplomats or warriors ... the focus on skills is apropriate, and the immunities are an added bonus. For K2 Prestige Classes ... I have to go with the Weapon Master/Maurader.
  9. The first for me is always Atton - right after talking to the two twileks in the refugee sector on Nar Shadda The second is always Mira - right after she joins the party The third is always Handmaiden or Disciple - at 18th level or whenever I make it to Dantooine Bao Dur is always the hardest for me - I guess I just don't like having him in the party
  10. I think so, but I've never tried ... there are always dialog options to kill them.
  11. 1. Concur, but they need to spend more time on the system ... balance it for all the supporting characters, and make it so that if you turn them to the dark (or light) side, they actually change their dialog and motivation. 2., 3., 4. Concur 5. I'd rather not - possibly if they join late in the game 6. You should have an opportunity to dialog with those who were close to Revan and the Exile 7. I'd rather not ... except possibly in the very end of the game 8. Concur that specific details for Revan and Exile should be chosen ... including class combos In addition ... - make the swoop races actual races instead fo time trials. - if we're going to have lightsaber "forms" make them mean something ... the "ready" stance, flourish, basic attacks, parrys, etc. should reflect the form. - continue to improve the workbench. I liked tinkering with stuff. - more flexibility in the path you take throughout the game ... I always feel like I'm watching a 5mph train wreck (starting with the trains 60mi apart) once I finally get to the end ... Rakata-Temple-Star Forge was not quite as bad as Dantooine-Telos Academy-Telos-Ravager-Malachor-Trayus Academy but they were both too linear.
  12. (1) "Sci Fi" simulators ... I can waste away days on end playing games like Freelancer and the MechWarrior series (2) Real-time Strategy ... I agree that StarCraft is not really "strategy" ... It's really at the tactical level of combat, but it's my favorite of the genre (3) Role-Playing ... the story's the key here ... along with immersion into the setting (4) First-Person Shooter ... it's guilty, mostly mindless fun, but I enjoy I think I'd enjoy racing games as well, but haven't tried one in years.
  13. Talk to the pazaak player ... investigate the trash pile ... talk to the swoop gang leader ... buy parts ... talk to the slicer ... (save if you want a specific type of lightsaber) ... talk to the pazaak player ... talk to tower guard captain ... talk to the medic
  14. There was some discussion in the Ep 2 DVD commentary about having the actor for the Clone Troopers (his name eludes me at the moment) do new voice tracks for the Storm Troopers in Ep 4-6 in a DVD release, so, yeah ... some, if not all, Storm Troopers were cloned. In almost all the pre-prequel EU source material I've read (quite a bit, but not all) the Storm Troopers' background was always left mysterious.
  15. I, too, am extremely interested in hearing any feedback from people who have played this (maybe in comparison to other MMORPG's). I don't have the time to get involved with it yet, and really don't plan to, but if things turn out to be "holy crap ... this thing is great" ... maybe I'll look into it. I've been a PnP role-player for decades (since the old Basic, Expert, etc. D&D box sets and 1st edition AD&D - and have kept up with most of the various iterations of the game since - I have the core rule books for nearly every version except 3.5) and might be interested in gathering up the old scattered friends online to run a few quests together, if the game experience is right. In an article I read (PC Gamer, I think) it sounded like the level cap will eventually be raised to 20, but the "sub-levels" were added to the game to satisfy the "instant gratification" crowd. I think it definitely has potential - the licensed D&D worlds are huge - nearly infinite - the possibilities for this to become the next "Everquest" or "World of Warcraft" are there - with the right game mechanic, expansions, marketing, price scale, and continued support.
  16. One possibility with the multiple start points ... a different start point for different starting class/race combo's?
  17. "Dual Core" is referring to your processor, not your graphics card. To answer your real question ... the 6100 is not a good card (if you have a 5600 or better from the previous generation, or even a 4800, you're probably better off) ... I don't know the specs offhand, but I'd bet with any high quality settings, you're going to get sluggish performance or other (probably worse) gameplay issues.
  18. "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. - Clarke's Third Law" The inverse of the corollary to this is also true ... "Any technology not indistinguishable from magic is not sufficiently advanced." (One example that comes to mind are the Technomages that made a couple of brief appearances in Babylon 5.) While I prefer technology stay the heck out of my middle-age era fantasy worlds, I like the idea of magic in a technologically advanced society. I think it would be interesting to tech-evolve a typical D&D campaign about three millenia, and incorporate Science Fiction with Traditional Fantasy. In the "cyberpunk" fiction that I have read (mostly classics, like "Neuromancer"), or similar movies (the crap-tacular "Johnny Mnemonic" had an interesting premise), only those belonging to "elite" organizations, those estranged from "mainstream" society, or the filthy rich were dedicated to (and understood, and could use with any real effect) the most advanced tech ... the same could be said of magic in most fantasy settings. I don't think magic and future-tech are necessarily incompatible, but trying to blend magic into relatively modern timeframes never quite seems to work right ... necessity is the mother of invention ... if you don't need a flying machine (because you can buy a flying carpet) why invent one?
  19. Concur with most of the above ... to add ... MMORPG ... I would much rather play a good single player RPG with the option to play online.
  20. Killiks feature heavily in a recent SW novel trilogy ... "The Dark Nest" is the name of the trilogy. They're not the "True Sith" ... according to the novels, they aren't naturally force-sensitive. Unless you're a die-hard SW fan, I wouldn't recommend the books. Not a bad bunch of mind candy, but not exactly going to win any awards, either. If you are a die-hard SW fan, you've probably already read them.
  21. I agree ... in recent memory, none had me as shocked and excited as when Malak told me I was Revan ... I know there are better ones, but watching the montage of clues was a great "revelation" cut scene for me. Not cinematic, by any stretch, but very well done. For cinematic cutscenes that I've loaded up the game just to watch ... most of the cutscenes from WarCraft III had me in awe of the detail and (in some cases) drama.
  22. Karate Champ (old stand-up, coin-op video game) sucked away more of my allowance when I was in Junior High School than anything else ... I probably could have bought one of those game cabinets with the amount of quarters I plunked into that thing. StarCraft was the first computer game I honestly got addicted to ... sure there were late nights with other games before SC, but SC was the first one that I would schedule time to play (online with b.net friends ... actually my first "social" experience gaming online, as well). Freelancer was the next addiction ... I never played online, but I spent hours and hours exploring every facet of that game ... it was the game that really got me interested in 3d games, how to make them look better, work faster, etc., and ultimately into upgrading and building computers. KoTOR/KoTOR2 was the next addiction ... and are probably the only games that I've played completely through more than a handful of times.
  23. I like the looks of the Grey Jedi Robes and Makutai Robes (subtle green) in TSL (plus, both looked hot on Mira) ... but the Ossus Keeper Robes were the best in the game (especially for a LSM, with WIS bonus added to defense). I wish the Sith Armor in TSL had the same silver coloring from K1. In K1, the Heavy Exoskeleton definitely had the coolest look, with Light Exoskeleton being my real favorite (because of the DEX bonus) for the PC. I didn't really like any of the basic clothing options for the PC's ... but I did like Atton's Ribbed Jacket and Mira's Ballistic Jacket (the green halter definitely helped with that ). This has already been posted in the "K3" thread elsewhere, but it belongs here too ... no more bright / pastel colored armor ... more dark colors. For example, while the M'uhk'gfa was pretty cool heavy armor (check the damage reduction !!) it made me question the Gamorrean warriors' manhood to find out it was pastel purple (looked pretty cool on Brianna, though ... maybe the best Gamorrean warriors are female :"> )
  24. Viridian for lightside ... I like the looks of cyan, but can't stand the "always on" bug. Red for darkside ... usually with orange for off-hand.
  25. "... is the dark side stronger?" "No, quicker, easier, more seductive." While I usually disagree with the "wait and see" approach often taken by the Jedi Council, and can see the wisdom in studying both aspects of the Force, I'm a lightsider all the way.
