  1. I'm a big fan of custom voicesets and I can't wait to try yours! I've been creating a lot myself but never cared to share since my tastes are kinda odd. For example, I like to make Kana sing my favorite dance tunes with chants and invocations. Also, my female chanters have always been Kylie Minogue(s), so... yeah, I'll keep those to myself! I did Viconia and Korgan voiceovers in the past, but they got lost with patches and I got no backup copies. Those were a total pain to make because I had to cut a youtube video in order to get their voicesets, then turn it into ogg files, turn down the volume etc. I won't go through that process again! I wasn't able to find the single audio files of BG2 companions anywhere. Since we are here, would you mind sharing them if you happen to have them or know where to get them? Thanks for the voicesets anyway, those sound great!
  2. Actually, you should be getting some sleep after 40 hours awake, my friend, and wake up just in time for the big reveal. Lucky you! I'm also thrilled for this, I was sure since the first day that they were going to announce the Kickstarter campaign for PoE2, now I'm not so sure anymore. It does seem a bit early for a release date anyway, so I don't know what else could be announced. I wasn't here the first time around, and I didn't partecipate in the first KS campaign. I hope they'll bring Multiclassing and a lot of focus on companions and side quests, on par with Zahua's one and Lord of a Barren Land, for example. I've been especially stingy with my christmas presents... I WAS SAVING FOR PoE2!!
  3. Also, even the (genuine or forced) detractors of the game had to praise the amazing isometric graphics of PoE. I don't see why they would change the only aspect of the game that was universally acclaimed. The 2D backgrounds and the art direction in general were totally on point, and I'm expecting no less from PoE2, PoE3, PoE4... If they want to realize something innovative in the series, they have a lot of options: changing the battle mechanics, creating original narrative elements, improving customization and especially moddability... switching to 3D would be the last (and IMO worst) choice of all.
  4. I dunno, can aumaua have white hair? And small as that picture is it clearly shows someone of human or elf size, not big framed aumaua. And besides that, it can't be Kana's relative - he's an island aumaua who have yellow/brown skin, blue skinned aumaua are coastal aumaua, different subspecies. I've just tried to create a couple of Aumaua characters: one coastal and one island, and both sub-races could have a bluish skin with white hair. About the body itself yeah, you may be right, it's quite hard to tell proportions by the artwork alone. However, he/she doesn't look so small if you consider that he/she is in the background and the hand holding the pistol is bigger than the hand in the foreground. Clearly we are just speculating at this point
  5. Couldn't he/she be the new companion hinted with the last teaser? An aumaua pirate (blue skin) holding a pistol would perfectly fit. Maybe one of Kana's relatives as well?
  6. I mean, after all we still have to meet the "famed Vailian wizard" Minoletta, then Arkemyr, Kalakoth and many others... Also, I'm hoping for this since PoE1: it would be so cool to experience the stories and/or meet the protagonists of the many chanter's songs (the Bride and the Brideman, the Champion who braved the horde alone, Hel-Hyraf, sure-handed Ila, Ben Fidel!).
  7. We already knew that Eder, Aloth and Pallegina would come back, so I'm thrilled to see the teasers of the next days! I especially wonder if we'll get to see (and play with) Sagani again, since we are probably going to explore the Deadfire archipelago.
  8. Are both Eder and Aloth discussing the not-so-peaceful return of Eothas? What an amazing introduction to the second chapter, I couldn't be more hyped!
  9. Second hardest? Is there some secret one not on the wiki? http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Party#List_of_Companions All of the others can be picked up without any combat at all, unless I am mistaken. Once you clear Stalwart of ogres, I mean, but you have to do that for DoC as well. To get Maneha you have to complete the White March part I, which means you have to go through Galvino's lab (amongst other things). I'd say getting Maneha is harder than getting Devil. I'm pretty sure you can recruit Maneha as soon as you clear Stalwart from the ogres. Maybe you remember that she appears so late because you - like me - have played the WM1 first and later on you installed part 2. Right now, if you have both WMs installed, Maneha should be waiting in Stalwart since your first visit.
  10. Since I tend to feel seasick in real life, I never thought I'd travel on a boat in RPGs, but I like the concept as long as there aren't too many pirates around. That theme is a bit cliché by now! Also, in the first chapter we already met so which legendary monster can we expect this time? Devs are keeping an eye on this thread? More teasing pleaaase... and kickstarter soon, hopefully!
  11. I just want some updates on PoE2, stop deceiving me. Yours faithfully, Single-digit-IQ fan
  12. The problem is: in Tyranny that ugly minimap replaced the full-screen maps, that I find much more evocative. I wouldn't like this change at all for PoE2. If they want to add a minimap, fine by me (as long as I can hide it), but by no means remove the full sized map of a location! I think that full-screen maps have always worked very nicely in EE games, so I don't see a real reason to replace them. This is a typical case of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" in my eyes.
  13. I disagree: I find minimaps to be good only in action-rpgs (Diablo style) or real-time strategy (Warcraft, Starcraft etc.). Here with Pillars, I find that consulting the full-screen map of an area is much more fascinating and evocative. Having a minimap is probably more practical, but does everything have to be efficient even in a fantasy RPG? After all, this is a single player game and we are going to take our time with exploration; it's not like we are going to rush through locations or challenge someone else in a PvP battle. Loot and VIP indicators feel especially game-y in my opinion. Minimaps in general seem "cheap" to me, and immersion-breaking, so to say. Also, they clutter the UI, but as long as there is an option to hide them, I'm not complaining.
  14. + PoE2 can learn narrative and storytelling from Tyranny: my protagonist feels much more tied to the events and has a reason to act. The choices in the beginning are cool, especially for a "serial restarter" like myself. I have new things to try every time! Also, companions' interactions, comments, and dialogues with NPCs are all good: the more, the better. Companions' combos are interesting and I'd love to see them in PoE. Can you imagine Edèr and Iselmyr comboing together? +/- I feel neutral about the reputation system, especially when tied to skills. It does feel a bit too game-y indeed. I'm also neutral about skill crafting, which is fun, don't get me wrong. However, I think the spells, the chants and many other skills in PoE had their own charm. Sometimes they were even poetic, while crafted spells may easily fall into the "generic" category. - Combat is a lot different from PoE. I dislike abilities with cooldowns and the lack of resources to manage during the fights. It really takes away from the fun and makes encounters pretty boring and repetitive. Click click click... wait... click click click. No frendly fire doesn't make much sense either. I also dislike the absence of classes, which were especially well made in Pillars and didn't feel limiting at all. Needless to say, the reduced party size is a huge no-no for PoE2, but I don't think we are risking that.
  15. I'm all in for crowdfunding, because I came too late to the party during the first campaign, therefore I got my own egoistical reasons to wish for a second kickstarter. I really want to be backer this time (silver tier up) and show my support and love for the series, I'm already saving some money! Considering that PoE was more similar to BG than BG2 in both scope and exploration, I suppose the vast majority of the playerbase is waiting for the obvious jump: the grand, intricate, boundless BG2 spiritual successor! What I mean is: the basis of the series are pretty solid at this point, I don't think a Kickstarter campaign could harm Pillars in any way. I believe that a game like "the new BG2" takes years to make, and let's not even discuss the resources! I'd be more than happy if Obsidian chose to call their fans for help instead of a powerful publisher/company which could alienate the series from its roots. We already got many dire examples of that in the past: Heroes of Might and Magic in the hands of Ubisoft, or the evolution (involution) from DA:O to the second title. I also disagree with the comparison to Tyranny: I find the game to be a little gem, and I like it quite a lot, but the more I play it, the more I desire to start a new run of Pillars. Tyranny feels a lot more MMOish and casual than PoE: cooldown skills, reduced party size, no FF etc. Of course there are also some very interesting ideas, and I think Obsidian could take the best of both worlds should they decide to confront with the fans instead of choosing the easiest, but more dangerous way of developing PoE2 without players' feedbacks.
  16. Yeah, it is a great time to be an isometric rpg enthusiast! After almost a decade of nothing, we are finally getting some amazing titles. I strongly hope that both Pillars and Tyranny will spawn their own long-lasting series, so we'll have something to play for years to come.
  17. Which is especially appropriate since half the playerbase - me included - still cannot spell the name of that race! Aumamua for me PS: I'm reading this thread daily, should we expect a big announcement about PoE2 after the release of Tyranny? One can dream, right?
  18. I agree a lot with this point. I'm kinda fixated with companions and I've really missed some "let's sit down and talk" moments between my favorite companions. Jokes and witty comments are cool, but there should be more to party banter than a couple of sentences. Keep them - some are actually brilliant - but mix in some more serious, deep conversations between party members. Also, one thing I always forget to point out: in PoE we get some companions way too late in the story! I'm not saying that all 11 should be in Gilded Vale, but I believe that it wouldn't be too strange to have them scattered in the first zones of the game: those we can reach within one hour of (linear) gameplay, so to speak. For example, Sagani might as well be in Anslog's Compass and Hiravias in the Black Meadow... they and their quests would be the same, because there's no story-reason to meet them so far away. I can understand Pallegina, Devil and maybe Maneha, who are tied to specific locations, but all the other companions should not be hidden behind a wall of multiple hours of playing. When I have a party composition in mind, I am often forced to rush through 1/3 of the story in order to get my desired companions and then backtrack to the quests/locations I've left behind. This process feels very gamey and mechanical, I hope it will get better in PoE2, it should be an easy fix. PS: I want Cadegund as a possible companion in PoE2!!
  19. Indeed! A PF game would be welcomed by me - as any other isometric RPG developed by Obsidian really - but please keep the PoE art style, which trumps the two shown in the survey. If there is one thing even the detractors of PoE couldn't complain about is the art direction, that is undoubtedly magnificent.
  20. Fantastic post as always, I just chime in to say that I've seen xaurips fighting spiders (and taking the beating) multiple times. I believe it happens for sure on Od Nua level 1, but also somewhere else. And yeah, it is funny to see that, I'm totally fine with it happening more often.
  21. I don't know if you had the chance to upscale contents back then, but now it is possible and - at least for me - PotD with upscaled contents was far from being a walk in the park! The expansions are definitely worth it, a big improvement from the vanilla game in both narrative and gameplay. No idea about the gold edition tho.
  22. This looks EXTREMELY promising. Vanilla items were really bland, then the White Marches spiced them up a lot. If the trend goes on, I believe that itemization in PoE2 will be magnificent and a kind of mini-game in its own.
  23. Hello, modding the soundsets is really easy in PoE, and one of my favorite activities too! First of all you need to locate the files. If you got the steam version of the game, you will find them here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Pillars of Eternity\PillarsOfEternity_Data\data\audio\vocalization\vo wav files In this directory you will find all the responses in the game, including NPC, premade companions, casting sounds etc. Inside this one, there is the "player" directory, which contains all the generic voices that you can choose for your main characters or your custom companions. Basically, you just have to choose one of those generic voices (for example "female - stoic") and replace its .ogg files with your own .ogg files, keeping the same names. Don't worry: you don't need to change all 72 files! Just a dozen of sounds will be enough. I suggest that before you start playing with the sounds, you make a backup copy of the "player" directory, just in case. Anyway, the game won't crash even if you use wrong audio formats. How to create your personal .ogg files? I suggest this: http://audio.online-convert.com/convert-to-ogg Audio Bitrate: 128kps Sampling Rate: 32000Hz Audio Channel: Stereo And your .ogg file is ready! Now you only need to rename it and replace it with the original. I will use the female-stoic soundset in our example. Say that you had a "Imoen" .wav file. You convert it to .ogg, rename it "player_voice_set_f_stoic_0001" and then put it inside the Player directory, replacing the original file. From now on, you will hear Imoen when you click on your character with the female-stoic soundset. The sounds that you absolutely have to change are those from 0001 to 0009: the first 3 are normal clicking lines, the next 3 are for movements and the last 3 are the battle cries. I suggest you also replace 0033, 0034 and 0035, which are the stealth mode sounds. You can even use the same audio sound for those three. 0039 and 0040 are for trap or secrets spotted, 0041 is for lockpicking. These are the ones you will hear more often during the game. Honestly you can ignore all the rest, because they happen so rarely that they don't break immersion (getting poisoned, stuck, dying, critical etc), but of course you can replace whatever you want. If you play a caster class (Wizard/Priest/Druid), consider choosing a voice that doesn't sound too different from the one you are importing; otherwise you can choose to replace even the casting sounds, which in general are from 0058 to 0062. If you are playing a Chanter, from 0066 to 0068 are chants, from 0069 to 0071 are invocation sounds. If you play a Cipher, 0072 is your casting sound. Some voices have different numerations, but you can use my list as an example, and in general the first 9 sounds are always 3 clicking, 3 movement and 3 attacking. Sometimes your custom audio files may be too loud or too quiet compared to the other sounds of the game. In that case, I suggest you change the volume of the file by using a program like Audacity. Finally, be aware that some audio files from those soundsets are also used by enemy NPCs when they battle you, so you may occasionally hear an enemy guard shouting with one of your custom sounds ^^ not a big deal, right? If you got any question, feel free to ask! Good luck and have fun changing soundsets, I had a lot of fun, especially making my chanters sing my favorite hooks! ^^
