"The guy had 2 points (assists, no less) in his last 6 playoff games." I guess Thornton, Heatley, and Marleau all suck then right? Right. They certainly aren't doing their job - i'm sure hurlshot will vouch for that. "I guess Crosby is horrible as well because he was -2 with no points in the last game." Crosby also has 14 points in 6 games? I guess Hasek was a terrible goalie because his last playoffs with detroit were subpar? In that playoff series he wasn't good. I really don't see what you're getting at here.

Chip in offensively? The guy had 2 points (assists, no less) in his last 6 playoff games. That's hardly chipping in. He's an okay defensive player, but defense is about disapline (something the guy lacks - look at his PIMs). He's alright in front of the net (although ever since they gave him his own rule I guess not hahahaha!). So, basically, Avery is good for one thing. getting in the head of opposing players, and while that is certainly an important role on any team (everyone has a pest) he's far from great. he's a mediocre forward who is good at being annoying. *shrug*

Somehow I would rather have a goalie that carries me all the way to game 7 against one of last season's finalists than a pest like Sean Avery who does nothing more than draw penalties (and take penalties) hahah

how can one ask for permission on the ice? as a hockey player I can say that it's very difficult to talk about anything other than the play while on the ice. Sharks win. Good to see them in the second round. I gotta root for the Caps though - only because I want to see how crazy Ovechkin will get in the finals.

Which doesn't make it any less satirical... It does lower the quality, How? Because it appeals to a wider audience? Because it is easier to understand? The show is still hysterical AND covers a wide range of issues.

I would disagree, it might be outdated, as far as issues go, but it is not at all "lame" - it remains a classic satire. The age of the work really doesn't directly effect the quality. well, when you yourself have agreed that satire is at it's best when it is speaking about relevant, topical, popular, recent issues, time obviously does play a role in how easy it is to relate to for modern audiences. This is why people watch South Park instead of reading AMP.

I guess you missed that A Modest Proposal was written in 1729 by Johnathan Swift and dealt with what was then a "modern day problem" (the situation faced by the Irish poor). But, yeah, I still say that Swift is better than South Park and while you're free to disagree with me I cannot think of why you would call AMP "lame." Um..No, I didn't miss that it was written in 1729. In fact, that's the very reason I said that the best satire deals with modern day issues. "AMP" is outdated, and therefore, lame.

No. A Modest Proposal is, quote, "brilliant satire" and South Park is nowhere as good. No. That's just lame. South Park is hysterical. also, for what it's worth - satire/parody are often most effective when they poke fun at modern day problems/issues. south park does this perfectly.

devils down 3-1 to the flyers. I'm not counting them out entirely but I think it will be be hard to win the next three games. I'm only hopeful because we have home ice for games 5 and 7. my fingers are crossed but worst comes to worse I can root for Ovechkin and the Caps or Pheonix.
