  1. Isn't that like the difference between saying "I killed somebody in cold blood because they bumped into me" and "I dealt with a disrespectful **** who invaded my personal space"? Censorship is a nasty subject. We all want to perform it when our particular side is the one who's in power and can censor, but when somebody else tries to censor us, it's a bad thing. However, if you begin to censor what can and can't be said based solely on your personal view of how the world should work and react, you begin to cut down on the scope of knowledge that can be legitimately learned by the future members of society. Sure, I want to censor people like the Discovery institute (who pushed for intelligent design in the schools) because I think their ideas are garbage, but they still need to put forth the idea so that the world can also see the rebuttal from the scientific community about their topic of choice. In the modern era of the "entitled millenial" we live in a world where people are more connected than ever, but ultimately it allows people to reaffirm their own biases that much more. Politically and socially it is much easier to find a website or twitter feed that will do everything to affirm your beliefs as they were taught to you, and only through serious upheaval will you end up seeing things from another point of view without the viewpoint feed from your "side" providing color to it. The Baltimore Riots are a perfect example from this. On one end of the political and philosophical sphere you have several people declaring that what's happening is the ultimate outgrowth of a broken justice system and these riots were the only way to draw attention to this bias and abusive system. On the other you have people who've never been in those conditions seen within Baltimore, saying that ultimately there's no reason to commit arson, riots, and violence against anyone becasue we have a democratic system that works. Neither side is going to give up their ideals because they haven't been in the other persons position. The Rioter feels like there's no way for him to change the world without explosive action that causes a huge ripple, while the outsider feels that the world can change because it happens every day within their life. To get this back to GamersGate, the problem is that a lot of the people on either side are having their bias reinforced. Early on it was all about Anita and Zoe being bullied, with news feeds being filled with different reports about this or that fringe element being responsible for this threat or that one, which made those who supported the "GamersGate is fake and people are looking to establish sexism in the industry as standard!" people ammunition to keep right on trucking believing in the garbage that Anita was spilling and the tales that Zoe tossed out, while ignoring the fact that the other side was stating (That games journalism was an incestuous mosh pit of reporters who will push foreward a narrative to suit their needs and sell the most products rather than actually try to provide the news without that specific slant). Now it's starting to skew the other way where the Anti-GamersGate are having THEIR fringe elements used to demonize and steretype the entire movement (As with the DC bomb threat). Part of our interconnectivity via Facebook and Twitter means that we can "quote mine" people and movements rather than just what they said. Taking what fringe elements say and use that as an example of what we think the majority is telling you. The fringe gets the most press because what they say is so unpalatable to most people that both sides use the other's fringe elements to try to undermine their opponent. Thus you end up with the entire GamersGate crew, and anti GamersGate crew being cast as swatting sexist(for different Genders) ****, while an actual discussion is no longer taking place. And it's not going to get any better (from a sexism standpoint) because girls are being told that women should be waited on hand and foot and treated like queens by their men because they work so hard. The best example of this sort of sexism is probably Meghan Trainor's "Dear Future Husband" where she's basically going to have her "Strong independant woman" cake and eat it too. In her song (and especially the music video) She's basically saying that she's going to be the busness woman with a full time job, while the guy also holds one down. But the hubby is gonna have to cook, not see his family as much, apologize for everything, and basically worship his wife if he wants to have a chance in her bed.
  2. Officially have new girlfriend and we went to other friend's birthday. Left early from the Gay Bar and drag show (which was fun) and ended up having sexy times on the floor of my apartment because neither of us has a bed bigger than a Twin. All in all, good night.
  3. Depends on your definition of "Overnight". I mean the Mark basically tanked in less than a year with some ridiculous inflation (because they just printed money to pay off their debt) during the Weirmar Republic.
  4. This happens in Most countries. Best Example I can remember in America is a woman who's amateur nickname was "Motel69Star" who was a Spanish teacher or something, that swung and made homemade porn on the side. Students find out and she had to quit and move pretty bloody fast. Partly because it's hard to teach and keep the respect of students (I'd expect) when they've seen you bangin for profit.
  5. Trevor Noah is gonna have a whole new news crew. Seems like most of the correspondents are departing anymore.
  6. Woot! Scored an interview next week with the GM of the local Ford dealership after impressing the Sales manager.
  7. I agree with what the News anchor is saying "You have to listen to opposing views and deal with it". But I find it Hilarious that that particular sentiment is coming from Fox News. On a games Journalism front: http://steamed.kotaku.com/steam-review-bombing-is-a-problem-1701088582/+nathangrayson He turns a question about "Review Bombing" into a piece about the indie dev documentary or whatever "Game Loading"
  8. Congressman from Colorado... who is an AVID player of League of Legends.
  9. I think that in the next 20 years there's going to be a political apocolypse, simply because the baby boomers are retiring and the Mellenials/GenX are taking their spots, which will be more polarizing... which will mean the 2 party system might die.
  10. He was a Democrat, but got so outraged at Truman for the race politics that he splintered the Southern members of the party, to create the Dixiecrats.
  11. I don't get it. Are Hispanics and Blacks incapable of being conservative? Not incapable, but there has been no visible reason for them to vote conservatively when the GOP are the ones constantly pushing laws into place to protect their congressional seats via white majority. Voter ID laws being the most recent example I can think of. And it doesn't help that the GOP is run by a bunch of guys who held Strom Thurmond up as a paragon of their party... a man who ran for president in '48 on a ticket of "Keep it Segregated". In 2002 the Senate Majority Leader (Trent Lott) declared which is so politically intractable that he ultimately lost his position as Majority Leader because of the outrage in general.
  12. Actually, it seems like I've got the biggest hatedom of any character in the game... there are Reddit montages of me getting nuked and eviscerated with the lines "Oliver Swanick is the only NPC programmed to feel pain!"
  13. And Steve King has decided that he wants to try to prevent the Federal Courts from even being able to look at cases involving Marriage.
  14. Calax you are a smart guy and a college graduate. Unless they are considering you to manage many stores getting this job would be an underachievement. I'm not picking on you here, you are way better than this. It's management, Store or Assistant STore manager would be the start but I'd try to make it to District Manager quick as I can. Right now it's not about getting a job that suits my degree etc. It's just about getting my ass employed.
  15. My big o'l hunk of annoying. Ze Kitteh I grew up with who still recognizes meh (taken in January)
  16. Went for an interview at ze gamestop. Won't know anything until next week.
  17. Yuuup... Worth it. Never thought I'd like a game where the blood of a fight stayed on the floor the entire match.
  18. I hope you realize Kiro... if you kill me I will find you and kill you... man to man... I will stick a Knife in you... >.>
  19. Well, had a good overall day where I spent most of my afternoon and evening with lady friend, Weds it's off to DSM for an interview to possibly run a gamestop.
  20. I am now 29.
  21. Watchd Guardians of the Galaxy featurettes.... and I want James Gunn to do a Star Wars Film... like an ACTUAL star wars film (Guardians is basically Star Wars with the marvel characters instead of the Star Wars characters). Also I almost has myself a girlfriend now.
  22. I don't think there's been a "Russian Alaska" since when America bought it from them.
  23. Nope.... Bachman was never as serious a contender as any of the three Republicans that are currently in the race, and she didn't announce her candidacy until June of 2011. At this point last time she was being talked about less than Gingrich (who also hadn't announced yet) was then and Walker is now. Romney did announce by this time last election cycle, he was one of the first to do so. I live in Ames Iowa and I was here in 2011 when the republican primaries started. Bachman was considered a VERY serious contender (for about three weeks) after she won the Straw Poll and one of my dormmates had to sit behind her for a PR stunt. Admittedly I'm not as entrenched within the republican machine as you seem to be so I don't know how they talked about it internally, but Externally everyone was talking about Bachman v Obama. After Bachman it was Gingrich, then the Pizza guy, then Rick Perry, but each was basically forced out after the media started paying attention to them because of what they dug up. Say what you will about Bill's moral failings, but he was an effective governor and ultimately ended with the US running on a budget surplus, and he is an incredibly charismatic person in general. That being said, I don't want Hillary to actually get in the white house because of the implications of a "ruling family", same with Jeb Bush. Seriously, if either of them get into the white house Two families will have controlled the Oval Office for 19 years with Obama interrupting it.
  24. I wasn't saying that Clinton was a good or bad candidate, only that She was ultimately the only one who's currently declared who has a chance of making it to the general election. We've still got a year and a half of primary bull**** to work through, and the candidates that'll get into the general will mostly likely be the ones who manage to fly under the radar long enough to get the votes of the other candidates that have been ruined by the news. At this point last time, everyone was talking as if we were going to have President Bachman. Huh... from the looks of twitter, Clinton should be about 30 miles from my apartment right about now.
