  1. you'd think Mech 2 would be by now. given it came out in what '92? And so it is... on CNET no less! http://download.cnet.com/MechWarrior-2/300...4-10001626.html Heh, they've got a Mechwarrior 3 picture there instead of Mechwarrior 2. Never played Mechwarrior 2, but I love Mechwarrior 3. I used to love sitting on a ridge 1km away and sniping the legs off running mechs in the campaign. "Returning to base!" *Mech's leg disappears in a flash of blue and the mech slams head first into the ground* "OH MY GOD! We're under attack!" "I don't have a visual and there is nothing on my radar, wait I've got a-" *Second mech's ****pit is vaporized* "Warning. Heat spike detected. Shutting down." "The price you pay for Alpha Striking with 5 ER PPCs..." Mech 2 is significantly different from 3.

I still remember the codes Blorb Coldmeiser UAC username Freebirthtoad gives you all missions unlocked Username Enzo gives you access to the Elemental and tarantula mechs...
  3. Well it originally came from a tabletop game, then they made the book series to introduce and explain changes. Basically saying it's just mech fights is like saying warhammer is JUST battles. Isn't it? I haven't seen a Warhammer game that isn't about annihilating enemies. And yet there is so much background information to explain why people are annihilating one another.

  5. Ok, Battletech 101, class is in session. Battletech is a fictional extension of our world, Terra=earth. Basically in the far future there was the starleague and humanity was happy and everything was fine, until a guy by the name of Stefan Amaris decided to Usurp the crown of the First Lord of Star League (Star League was run by one first lord, and then several high lords) this generated a civil war, but the Military Commander of the Star League Defense Force Alexandr Kerensky didn't want to get involved and instead took ALL the SLDF forces outside of innersphere space. Both groups then promptly beat the tar out of themselves into a technological dark age. The SLDF ended up unifying first, and reorganized itself into the Clans, while the Sphere ended up putting itself into a equilibrium of animosity (kinda how our world is today). and the Clans ended up getting a technological advantage because they had more people working towards the same goal. SO Because of the tech advantage, clan mechs are faster, lighter, run cooler, and have better weapons than the inner sphere counterparts. But the clans battle tactics and psycology doesn't work very well against the inner sphere. (for example, the clans always expect the enemy to give exact numbers on who's defending or attacking, and then expect them to play by a specific set of rules designed to minimize the damage to society that the war generates, of course the inner sphere's idea of war is "Kick em as hard and as fast as you can, fight as dirty as you can, and always use every advantage you can"). http://kerensky.ultraforce.org/ A VERY good battletech archive of the sphere and how everything works up until the reboot of the books.
  6. Red Faction III. It's actually pretty fun, Different from the original in that you're outside on basically a red version of earth, and they have happily ignored the second red faction (which was... interesting). It's really fun to take a building out with your Sledge by knocking out the main supports and then watch it crash to the ground. Or set up some remote charges on a bridge, lead the enemies under it (or across) and detonate it causing them to die from the rubble. Only thing that's a little odd is the driving physics.
  7. A few interesting things to note from the trailer that's linked. It's set in 3015, no clans here. Clan's didn't appear until around 3050. I think this is set around the fourth succession war. And it looks like you're going up against House Kurita. What this means gameplay wise is that you won't have Ferro-Fib armor, duel heat sinks, ER/Pulse lasers, or Modular weapons. Also the fusion core is gonna be lower output. So overall you're going to have a lot less in the way of weapons and armor per ton you're used to. As to the reboot, they probably did that because the books that FASA put out for the series ended up getting to large scale and confusing that they ended up with a 50 year jump to the "dark age" where true battlemechs are practically outlawed, and most of the inner sphere is held by one big group. I personally HATED the new direction because it just felt like it wasn't staying true to battletechs feel (internal politics often leading to open conflict). Anyway, in the video I was kinda wondering why on earth the warhammer was using the machine guns when battling the Atlas.... MACHINE GUNS! I mean those suckers are only useful against friggin infantry. Of course if I remember the standard loadout for a Warhammer he's only really got two PPC's and an SRM package. Oh, on the homing missiles thing, LRMs and SRMs are both dumbfire. SRMs have a "streak" version which are lock on, but LRM's are always going to be dumbfire, unless you hit the guy with a Narc which will cause all missiles in the area to home in on your target (even his own... which leads to much merryment).
  8. http://kotaku.com/5308707/lucasarts-hopes-...adventure-games Looks like it's an experiment, if they see sales on their titles that they release on steam they'll release more of the classics.
  9. Signed up for the beta of champions online... One question did make me wonder if it was actually true about myself given I'm a gamestop employee... and that question is "Are you part of the industry or media" for video games. I don't count myself as part, but I'm thinking I answered wrong.
  10. I do wonder if the Cryptic guys are still that involved in their creations as they were in City of Heroes/Villains. By this I mean that the lead designer actually created City of Heroes and it's signature heroes/villains after his own pen-and-paper crew. And then each of the developers took one of those signature heroes as a handle on the forums. This all created an interesting end-of-beta event (in villains) where the developers actually put on the "suit" of the hero they were using on the forums to attack the rogue isles (the Villain home base). every player in the beta was able to fight against the devs in an all out brawl (and even talk to them if they had cross faction chat enabled). It was REALLY awesome to see 200 heroes converge on Statesman (the lead developer) then him fire off a single ability and send them flying like Sauron does in the lord of the rings flashback. Similarly in the end-of-beta event for Heroes, the developers all played as Rikti (the alien menace that attacked Paragon City that was the crux of the Heroes storyline) commanders during the attack that kicked off the storyline. Other interesting things were stuff like a villain getting a bug where he ended up on the heroes side of the "tracks" (in Paragon instead of the Isles) and the GM team decided to handle it by having a GM play one of the signature villains sent to drag the player back to the isles by killing him in the main city square. Also there have been cases where the developers hop onto their heroes/villains and just group with players within the game for relaxation (it's REALLY odd to see the developer statesman saving HIMSELF in a mission environment by fighting against an evil version of HIMSELF).
  11. Unless I'm misunderstanding you like this girl, thus you are serving as the emotional support of any relationships she has while she nails other dudes and your holding onto some desperate notion that one day she will come around, which will obviously never happen. So your just wasting your time and likely enabling her. nope... different women, and they aren't geographically near me
  12. You sound like an incredibly ronnery man. I suggest a dakimakura. That should clear things up nicely. Or get a sexual outlet? ..... WHAT!?
  13. Yeah, I'm getting there on WoW too... Like I said, Champions would be the only one to drag me away from WoW at this point.
  14. ... How do I keep getting myself into these weird situations... Within the past month I've screwed up my sleep schedule by talking to a girl all night while she was taking 8 times the standard amount for painkillers due to a headache and misreading the label. Now I'm giving moral support to a woman who's (now ex) boyfriend tried to force himself on her... *sigh*

    Books

There are really four major book types in Diskworld Rincewind centric Watch Centric Death Centric and Witch Centric. Each one revolves around a specific group of characters, but has elements of the other types within (for example, Death is in almost every Single book). Also you might try reading Good Omens. It's a collaboration between Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.
  16. Looks like valve is looking into putting up cross play between the two games (probably trying to do something similar to how Dawn of War worked) http://kotaku.com/5308751/left-4-dead-2-mi...h-left-4-dead-1
  17. And then you wake up two years later and realize that you could have been playing awesome games instead of wasting all that time grinding levels. But ,hey, at least you saved some money! Well you could say the same thing about NWNII, Baldurs Gate, Mass Effect, so on and so on. Like hurlie said, the big thing about MMO's is the social aspect. The difference is that those games actually end, while MMOs don't. I can see the social aspect. True, but how many times do you go back through and keep replaying them? And what I said about the "game per month" thing you'll find is pretty true. Of course it's mainly aimed at those people who get bored at some point, and go out to buy a new game simply because its' new. It's not true for everyone (particularly those on this board, given repeat play throughs are a major thing) but it's true for most of my customers at gamestop and myself. BTW system requirements are up http://kotaku.com/5309166/champions-online...s-your-computer
  18. *sigh* they're trying to avoid the sinkhole that was galaxies. Galaxies had one of the best crafting systems people have ever seen but it wasn't very good at combat or leveling and took FOREVER to get levels. It didn't even level in the traditional way. Sony ended up just digging the hole deeper with some of their decisions. You're still making sweeping generalizations and refusing to even concieve of the fact that a LARGE portion of the market wants a GOOD star wars MMO
  19. Yeah, I lost the roll on the T7 shoulder. Probably. I just wanted to familiarize myself with the bosses before I signed up for 25-man. Im not above buying gear and 10k is no problem at all. I already bought myself the Ulduar bracers for 1800g. I catch myself buying stuff just because I have more gold then good sense. Mounts, Dalaran Intellect, etc... lol. I hope so. Im looking forward to the new Argent Tournament stuff too. Well, after 3.2 you're gonna be able to earn Ulduar badges in 5 mans (in an attempt to get people to run 5 mans again). The ulduar crafted gear is currently Best in Slot for all the classes it's for. The biggest drain on your bank will be getting the runed orbs for it however (on my server they run at around 700-1k gold a pop)
  21. A few words. Bioware isn't talking about Mass Effect as an MMO. Fans have said it'd be fertile ground for an MMO because of the current design and background that they have for the game, but there are no plans to make it. As to TOR. The fanbase for TOR is going to differ from that of Kotor. People who weren't interested in Kotor but were in star wars will pick it up, as well as Kotor and MMO fans. You loudly proclaim in your post that the fans want another single player campaign and that bioware is TOTALLY ignoring their fans while making an MMO. Problem is that either your definition of "fan" is from the few RPG specific boards (or focused boards) like this one, where Single player is king and multiplayer should be jump in jump out rather than any of this leveling and social nonsense. Rather, the general public has been very receptive to the idea of a Star Wars MMO, and Old republic gives the developers the greatest freedom to pull this off. You're also letting your personal feelings shade how you look at things WAYYY to much. You had a bad experience with MMO's, ok, we get that. Problem is that you're using that as justification that all MMO's are terrible. It's like watching a serial killer in action, and that causes you to have a horrible opinion of ALL human beings because they'll all inevitably kill and not get punished for it. Gross Generalizations based upon personal experience rarely stand up to any sort of scrutiny. Anyway, if you're going to make a post like this, make it so that you're not lying about factoids and demographics. And don't just state "It's terrible because I had a bad time in this other companies MMO and thus all mmo's are horrible!". If you think it'll be terrible give reasons and be constructive rather than just screaming then waiting for a reaction.
  22. well... Human life will cease with the planet killing asteroid I mentioned above... ALL life will end when the universe suffers from heat death (where all energy is converted into heat and the entire universe is one temperature, but this may cause the big bang to repeat).
  23. well, they may be watching the partnership to see which games get the most downloads/purchases from the "new" generation to see where they should expand. Of course they're being stupid about it because what they should do is let Double Fine do its' thing, and reboot the Xwing series with Totally Games.
  24. I did but it didn't pop up with the dvd menu, all it did was pop up with the video that's supposed to go behind the menus. Edit: Never mind, I figured it out. VLC worked I just misread my UI.
  25. I've got several dvd movies/stand up routines that I was wanting to watch, only to find that my homebrew system doesn't actually have a DVD playing program on it... true dvd... it can read the dvd's but it doesn't have a program to play it like a dvd player... yeah. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew of a program I could chase down.
