Which part? "You sicken me"? "You stupid s***!" "If you go near me, my house, or my daughter again I'll arrest you for assault and as a sex offender"? "Do you know she still needs to be reminded about cleaning herself at her... womanly time"? "That she needs to be reminded to shower a couple of times a week"? Which part is the boys father supporting? Verbal abuse doesn't necessitate yelling. Calling somebody a stupid sack of s**t, and otherwise belittling them (particularly in a position of power) is abusive. And while I don't condone relations between the two kids, I don't exactly find it out of the ordinary that they're starting to get together that way.

It will completely be a different point of view, however, this does not mean that any parent should use every single option within their power to bully their children into "living better lives", and then bullying their childrens friends. Here's the thing about crossing the line. He crossed it once, on a purely personal matter, and abused his authority as a police officer to belittle, harass, and verbally abuse a child. Now, what happens when he crosses it on duty and beats the tar out of a dealer, murderer or rapist? Also, would you want somebody you know who has kids to come in and start threatening your childrens future? As I said before, if somebody did that to me they'd probably be decked before they know what hit them.

Do you believe agnostics/atheists can be moral?
Calax replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Way Off-Topic
Simply put, yes. In general I've found that usually such people are also ones who deny evolution and talk about things like a six day creation, a global flood, how the grand canyon was formed in about 6 hours due to said flood.... for a quick look at other stupidity: -
First thing I thought of when I saw that.

After the complaint about the cop was filed, both kids were charged with underage sex... although I don't think that'll stick or be persued by the DA because of their ages.

... Well, if they re-release it and see a large crowd for it we may get... On the whole Kotick thing, I just wanted to point out that he made a quick comment on Tim Schafer calling him a prick a few months ago that was along the lines of "I dropped brutal legend because Schafer and his studio went over budget, missed their deadlines, and made a meh game". Which makes sense. As to EA vs Activision? I'll stick with THQ thanks (Yay relic!) -
I suggest you all

No matter the AI it cannot make the decisions as a human should, nor adapt to the situation as easily as the human mind would. That said, either way true powered armor would revolutionize warfare in the same way battleships and Tanks did for WW1 (naval) and WW2(ground).

I've known a couple, and yeah, they are regular joes. Also, regular joes have been called on bad parenting, which is what this is. Adding to that the nature of his abuse of his position as a cop and you've got somebody who should be seriously punished, not just "slap on the wrist and don't do it again" stuff. I mean the guy literally threatened to ruin the boys life during that speech he gave the kid (inbetween verbally abusing him, and demeaning his own daughter) simply because they were a pair of teenagers who thought they were in love. I'm willing to bet if you did something similar ("you won't graduate if you go near my daughter, and I'll see to it you're expelled") You'd loose your own job pretty quickly once the parents heard of it, or not explicitly fired but forced to resign (I've seen teachers in Cali ejected for lesser offenses). Understand, we're not asking him to loose his humanity, but we are asking him to not abuse his power when he personally becomes outraged. I mean the guy's a cop, if he does this now, what's to say he won't go all vigilante in 6 months if his daughter is.... harmed( or worse) in the next few months, and kill an innocent person?

What about Captain America's getting shot with a bullet in the brainpan sending him to another dimension? Or was that just back in time, too? I can never remember. Omega beams I can understand. They're like magic beams. But Cap got a bullet to the noggin. Actually he was shout in the back, and then three times in the stomach.

This is to awesome not to be mentioned... Tim Schafer hired Ron Gilbert. -
Archipeligo. And actually, it's quite viable to have a solitary city as your empire given that you can focus on gold and field a pretty good army as well as easily defend yourself (one ranged unit in your city and you're set, add in some cav that run in and kill guys on the edges and you've just stopped any offensive cold) and it's MUCH easier to culture at that point.

I am in agreement here.

Judging by their website, they're mainly doin the DLC gag. and Sannom, no, the alternative is to design a game that you can progress in from level 1. My point was that it's bad game design to build your game around having people restart the game several times before they can actually play it. -

That was my biggest problem too. But once I accepted the fact, I had a blast. Even when I died, it felt like I had accomplished something since I got to keep my previous character's experience points in the new game session. I think I was level 13 or so before I even tried the main quest (must have been my third or fourth restart). Still, to me that seems like bad game design where you HAVE to go in and just mess about for a while die, mess about for a while, die, mess about for a while, die, finally start playing. In other news Jim Lee and the cinematic director from Blur studio talk about the DC universe Online trailer http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/vie...tors-Commentary -
Which robin? because he's pretty inherently tied to the series, although most people think of him as **** Grayson rather than Tim Drake. And it was pretty big news when they offed Jason Todd. Also, discussion with the director and Jim Lee about DC Universe Online's AWESOME TRAILER! http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/vie...tors-Commentary

The biggest problem I had with dead rising was that you basically couldn't win the first time you put it in because you were so weak. -
That and the Deadpool movie that's in the works. I'm sorry, but Ryan Renolds ROCKS for comic book movies. He's got the perfect demeanor for it.

This. Seriously, one of the biggest reasons books are pirated online is because the copy protection stuff put on the books prevent text-to-speech conversion for the blind, who promptly go and pirate it simply so they can read it (and not have a 400 lb brick in their living room that would otherwise be about a half pound). Steam is actually a pretty good version of anti-piracy ware because not only does it act as DRM but it also gives you a social networking and multiplayer feature built into the system itself, providing benefits to the consumer as well as the dev. Also, more controversially, it drops overhead and a bit of finagling by removing the necessity of disks due to the way that the games are tied to your account.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Hayter Just wanna say, that guy is one of the most awesome people in the world of entertainment.

See, here's the thing Di, you said specifically that the boy needed to be taught a lesson because he'd just be able to shrug off having impregnated the girl and thus should have been taught a lesson. I said that no, he wouldn't just be able to shrug it off. Either way, the father was still way out of line professionally and personally. Also, it's not "the boy had sex, it's what boys do" it's "The teens had sex, it's what teens do".
-
I'm sorry, but no, just... no. The boy was put in handcuffs by a fully uniformed officer in front of his parents and all were told he was being arrested for a sex crime. Now explain to me how being told "Your son's future just went to hell because I'm a vindictive daddy who is going to make it so people automatically lump your son in with child molesters when he's older and he won't be able to get a job worth a crap because of it!" isn't out of line? I'm sorry, but people at any age, when encountering a uniformed police officer, will in general not get in the cops way. After all the guy A) has a gun B) can make your life a living hell C) has all of society viewing him as an infallible hero due to the culture of hero worship going on. As to the whole "ruined a girls life while the guy just has high fives" I call bs. Have you seen what a woman can do to a guy who accidently knocked her up financially? That girl could make him be paying her for the next 15ish years (until the kid gets out of college...) due to the bias courts have towards women in these situations. Also most times a cop uses their position like this, both sets of parents are in agreement about it and "conspire" to do it, rather than one single parent taking unilateral action. And while the cop didn't physically harm or threaten to physically harm, he certainly threatened the hell out of the kid (if you bothered to watch the video, the cop is a complete jackass regarding both the boy, and his daughter who he talks about almost as if she was a pig in terms of hygiene) with probably more severe consequences (or did you miss the "if you go near my home, near my daughter, near my neighborhood, I will arrest you for real and charge you as a sex offender, and with assault" bit?) And hurlie, I don't know about you, but I don't like the idea of not being able to parent my own kid. Sure, he can have sex, I can understand his want to, but I'd A) make sure that he knew about and at least pushed him to use protection and B) make sure he wasn't being a completely stupid git about it. I would HATE any parent that tried to butt in and do my job with my son because they thought I was being to lax or whatever. The cop was out of bounds as a police officer, and as a parent. Completely, and utterly out of bounds. If that was my son, that officer would probably have been kicked out of the house with a threat of legal action related to trespassing, and if he laughed that off I'd have beaten the tar out of him for being such a presumptuous **** about his position. My kid, my rules, my punishments.
-
Yes. Are you guys missing the point where he treated the girl in the same fashion? That seems to be getting lost here. Again, does he have a history of abusing power? If he does, then sure, this should be the last straw. But I didn't read anything about a prior history. He didn't hit the kid. He lectured him. Did you guys watch the video? It's not exactly police brutality. My argument isn't that he should get off scott free, I've stated form the beginning that a reprimand is in order. But ending his career is pretty severe. Actually, maybe him losing his job will work out good for him. The wrongful termination suit just needs the right number of parents on the jury to get him a nice amount of cash, whereas a reprimand means he keeps his job as an underpaid public servant In the same fashion? I'd hardly call taking her to a juvie facility (they didn't say if he was gonna toss her in a cell) = to handcuffing a kid and then talking to him. Like I said, he abused his authority as a cop to scare the boy. The fact that he put cuffs on the kid could also toss him into legal trouble with illegal detention and/or false arrest. We never said that it was police brutality hurl, we said it was an unforgivable show of abuse of power. I personally would not feel safer knowing my streets were patrolled by a guy for whom it was ok to cuff somebody to lecture them on being a better person. And if I were a parent I'd also be afraid of having him in the area because I don't want him to come over, and pull this stunt on my family. You seem to only be thinking about this from the position of the girls father. What about the position of the boys father? How would you feel if you had to stand around and think that your son was about to go to prison for simply being a teenager? When he let the kid go after the talking to would you just go "Oh, it's ok, he was only teaching a lesson!"? Seriously, think about it. Edit: Also, did you watch that video? He not only faked the arrest, he also threatened the kid with an arrest for being a sexual predator, a criminal record, assault and a few other things if he so much as walked NEAR the daughter. I'm sorry, but threatening somebody with THAT amount of stuff just because you're a cop and your daughter slept with the guy is NOT ok.
