Prism Program ( Big Brother gone too far?)
Because I don't believe security should be a political game. The enemy is the enemy, not the ones across the House or whatever. That's why it's called 'loyal opposition' (at least in the UK). I would hope that at least some of you wouldn't hodl the position you do if the venal self-serving greedy ****ers in the system got soundly thrashed every now and then. But ultimately that's OUR responsibility as voters.

Prism Program ( Big Brother gone too far?)
Sending in special forces is not something Presidents do lightly. It can be terribly embarrassing. Look at how close the Usama Bin Laden raid came to a Blackhawk Down. Snowden's probably going to be OK in his way. The real question all this circus is distracting you from is what happens next? Does a wikileak actually make anything happen? Or, as I've said before, is it in fact the political equivalent of an upskirt photo? Giving the illusion of privileged insight without any real benefits?

Prism Program ( Big Brother gone too far?)
That's the problem with Obama. He's nobody's enemy, and hence nobody's friend. Never trust a man who won't make his own enemies.

Prism Program ( Big Brother gone too far?)
Well, ref my above point about Ecuador, it looks like Quinto (the president) left the trade agreement on his own on Tuesday. Thereby pre-empting US action. I feel sorry for the poor ****ing Ecuadorians. Yet another Latin American leader decides he wants to go full Che, so he can grab a few statues at the expense of people having a normal life.

The Science of Why We Don't Believe in Science
Acid rain and the dust bowl. Counterpoint? My point was: a) "Duh hurr, there's lots of us" isn't a scientific argument b) "Dur hurr... x" isn't a scientific argument. As you just pointed out. Rationalism IMO isn't much better than faith. In fact it's worse because it wastes all sorts of time sitting around in togas. Scientific rationalism FTW! W00t!

So glorious Iran remains only country without gay people! Don't they hang them, though? That's cheating, surely.

Actually, the dog's a malinois. Supposedly a very particular one called Cairo. Proof that the NSA provoked the Arab Spring!

Prism Program ( Big Brother gone too far?)
NYT article on the impact to Ecuador if they try to face down the US. A very interesting piece on economic power in a crisis. After reading the article I think it would be disproportionate to damage the thousands of livelihoods at stake by removing favoured trading status. After all, what _operational_ damage has been caused by the leak? I'm not saying I approve of the leak. But proportionality is an equally important part of good statesmanship. In the circumstances NOT imposing effective sanctions might send just the right signals that the US isn't an ogre.

Defense of Marriage Act ruled Unconstitutional
LOL. Actually I was more leading into the fact that I've started fancying some very peculiar chicks recently. I'm hoping its a symptom of being creakingly single for two years. I think the obvious warning indicator was when I realised I quite liked the thought of a bit of Josie Long.

Hopefully this Steam link will work. I'm hugely amused. EDIT: No it won't. I'm in Fallout New Vegas, with a character called Veronica, who is voice by Felicia Day, in a town called Bonnie Springs. It's like some great Vaginal Fantasy!

Thinking about it in light of this discussion it amuses me a little that people would know very reliably WHAT their orientation is.

Heteroflexibility is a new one on me. Is that when you're one or the other but never both at once? I may have mentioned this before, but the sexual orientation which still annoys me is bisexuality. They always act all superior to both straight and gay. "Oooh look at me, I'm twice as sexy as you losers." What makes it worse is that I think they might be right. Actually, while we're on the subject I saw an LGBT poster yesterday for (among other things) "gays" and "queers". It's all sounding a bit People's Front of Judea to me.
