  1. In the UK you have no right of service. It's always at the owners discretion. The same way they refuse Scottish bank notes. The only excpetion si know of are when it's linke dto equalities legislation like that business with homosexuals kissing in a pub.
  2. The point is that all large complex systems have a tendency to revert to their 'natural' state. To illustrate with a hypothetical example: We increase CO2 levels, organisms which live on CO2 proliferate and bring the level back down. It's what is called a feedback loop. Similar mechanisms are involved in freshwater/saltwater current interactions and levels of arctic ice. This is very very simple graduate level science we're talking here. My point isn't to invalidate anthro climate change. My point is to invalidate the two dimensional oversimplification you are putting forward. It's just not scientific to even think about the problem in those terms.
  3. I think you should begin singing old fashioned spirituals in a booming bass voice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=5TuQo102pvk#t=220s EDIT: Soon I will be done With the troubles of the world Troubles of the world Troubles of the world Soon I will be done Troubles of the world I'm going home to live with God No more weepin' and wailin' No more weepin' and wailin' No more weepin' and wailin' I'm going home to live my Lord Soon I will be done With the troubles of the world Troubles of the world Troubles of the world Soon I will be done Troubles of the world I'm going home to live with my Lord I want to see my mother I want to see my mother I want to see my mother I'm going home to live with God Soon I will be done With the troubles of the world Troubles of the world Troubles of the world Soon I will be done Troubles of the world I'm going home to live with God
  4. I did that once. Spent three hours waiting and finally cam up to complain. Turned out I'd been called pretty much as I sat down and was saying hello to the person next to me. Three hours previously.
  5. You don't seem aware that one of the most significant questions in climate science is the extent to which mechanisms _such as microflora and fauna_ compensate for disturbances in their environment. I mentioned that I went to the National Oceanographic Centre a couple of weeks back. They were anthro' climate change fan boys. But this was the one thing which gave them pause for thought. The point is that complex systems are difficult to test experimentally. Because you can't experimentally vary the conditions without abstracting out the complexity of the system, which is what you want to understand. Most of the time your best bet is to play silly buggers with statistics modelling. I'm quite a fan of science. So I'd appreciate you not making such a collosal balls of defending it.
  6. I wasn't aware of fish altering the shape of the earth, creating arificial islands and pumping millions of tons of gas, liquid and all kinds of stuff into the atmosphere daily. Some thing humans made are visible from ORBIT. Tell me of a single animal that can claim the same, then we can talk. LOL. You really don't get it do you. Your point about seeing from any distance, or smelling us, or hearing us is moot. It's not a scientific rational argument. It's only barely rational. We do something 'big' so therefore we can do other 'big' things? It's exactly the same as me pointing at a 'bigger' part of the biosphere and arguing they logically must play a 'bigger' part. I don't want to be rude, but if you're going to wave a flag for science make some sort of goddamn effort to understand how it works.
  7. I think it's a question of efficiency. You notice how some posts from Oby are disposable one shots? I can only assume it's to try and create a bigger presence for minimum effort. Be fair, it is only an alt. the poor insane bastard is presumably trying to wash dishes at the same time.
  8. Finally, I can have that drone army i always wanted!
  9. *cough* I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but the conclusion I'd draw is what I already know: Liberal groups are pretty ****ing useless and don't constitute a security threat.
  10. The point is we didn't conquer the world so much as subsume the bits which weren't working.
  11. Walsingham replied to obyknven's topic in Way Off-Topic
Again, stay in character. You're supposed to be playing a Russian supremacist with neo-fascist leanings. If you don't be more consistent I will begin making SAN checks for 1D4/2 loss each instance.
  12. I have to say that as drudanae points out, I don't see a redhead in a bikini, so much as some sort of famine victim who I desperately want to make some soup.
  13. It's not even "get a call" everything is done online, so I've been checking the web every 45 minutes. BUt basically yeah, then at 930 I wash that vehicle, take it down to the airport, and have two customers. Silly part is I'm still earning more than I would have at McD's. Welcome to capitalism. Try the shrimp.
  14. So if you don't get a call you're just chilling out?
  15. Sorry, man. They were already showing the highlights here about two hours ago. Thought it wasn't sensitive.
  16. There you go. Actually, I was just closing the BBC news feed and I misread the headline "Rosbjerg wins dramatic British GP"
  17. Zero Dark Thirty. *deep sigh* A very workmanlike treatment of a complex subject. Knowing homage to Blackhawk Down thrown in. Good if you want a thoughtful attempt to deal with some seriously abstract 'true' history. With some neat shooty bits and torture. Ultimately I have to say it bit off far too much to chew. The final raid was too weak, and didn't make it clear enough what it would have been like if it had gone wrong. No denouement to speak of at the end. Although the ending wasn't exactly BAD. Definitely one to watch on DVD when you fancy a bit of brainwork and a chat. Bad if you want to get swept away in a narrative.
  18. Lois Lerner, the IRS, difference between witness version of 5th amendment and Mirandization, and whether she has to testify on the specifics of what she already said before trying to claim the 5th. Well, I appreciate you clarifying. I think it was just a couple of pay grades above what I can understand, rather than you being incomprehensible.
  19. Well, there is mkreku's alarming predeliction for jailbait. But the man strikes me as basically in favour of bikinis any way he can get 'em.
  20. I feel your rage, man. I'm going to go off on a massive tangent now, and at the least sap your fury. I'm going to do it by suggesting that the problem is that these are op systems and architectures written by committees of people who have never had a good servant. They think the ideal thing is - as Baba' said - are your nanny. But who in their right mind wants a bloody nanny? What you want is a polite, quietly competent _servant_. It pays attention to what you want, and it does that. At no point EVER should it tell YOU what to do.
  21. LOL. mkreku is going to kick himself when he finally finds this thread.
  22. Just be normal, you freak. Make some tea, eat biscuits, feet up. I had to drag myself off to a meeting at the home of a guy I'm going to be working with. Had great food, but I'm death warmed up after my hangover. Back home now, so feet up, biscuits, tea.
  23. Is anyone else really confused now? Cal, wtf are you two banging on about? I've lost track.
  24. You could be onto something there, you know. We could sell holidays with Ros, and then just give people a mickey finn, and roleplay them getting up to stuff. When they wake up, we tell, them. Any complaints and we bring in the midget stripper with the black eye.
