  1. Too amused by this to let out the enormous laugh I can feel boiling away in my humour pit.
  2. I got shot in the face by a child waving a roman candle when I was in Southeast Asia. Narrowly missed my bloody eye. I'm ambivalent about the incident because it didn't scar, and I've always wanted a cool scar.
  3. There's also Hillsborough. I believe some of those responsible for it- and the utterly despicable ass covering smear campaign against the victims- not only still have their jobs, but have promotions. Good point. I forgot about that because of the whole Middle East exploding business. I'll bring it up, too.

Can't find my dice, now. Someone roll, please?
  5. LOL. You know, I could get used to this thread.
  6. I absolutely loathe pigeons. Almost as much as I loathe the sentimental British attitude to the little bastard vermin. When bird flu variant H101 kills 20% of people it's going to be due to all the pigeon barf all over London.
  7. I'm not denying that Saudi funds jifs all over the place. But I haven't read specifically that they financed the Timbuktu people. Or Boko Haram. I'd prefer to be precise in these matters, if you have a source. Orogun, you may be pleased to hear that your advice to use negotiation to cut them off from allies conforms to the British army manual on COIN, which I have in my bathroom. [not protectively marked, before anyone objects]. It's a pretty good read if you can find a copy online.
  8. For a second there I thought you meant Sand. Hungover this morning, but oddly not as bas I gshould be. hmm OK. Obviously worse than I thought. Had a proper braai yesterday, lots of boerewors, and portuguese vinho verde. No unaccompanied young ladies, but you can't have everything.
  9. Accepted wisdom is that we should be engaging with the Islamists through negotiation and political dialogue. I'm not really clear what dialogue the Nigerian state is supposed to have with these people. Only burn 20 people next time? 10? 2?
  10. Supplemental: Case of appalling police misconduct. Bugging anti-racism campaigners who were trying to get justice for a murdered teenager. I would encourage all UK members to bring this up with their MP. Guilty senior officers need to be identified and nailed. I will be bringing it up with my MP in the next couple of weeks.
  11. Remember those two halfwits who murdered Lee Rigby in London earlier this year, and said it was because the British Army was killing kids? Boko Haram kills 29 at school. "At least 29 pupils and a teacher have been killed in a pre-dawn attack by suspected Islamists on a school in northeastern Nigeria, reports say. Eyewitnesses said some of the victims were burned alive in the attack, in Mamudo town, Yobe state." This is hardly a new behaviour for Islamists. But it just occurred to me it might be news to some members.
  12. People should always wear real Tricornes. Tricornes are cool. Glad someone round here has style.
  13. I should like to caveat my earlier comment by saying that I'm extremely fond of the 18th century precisely because they thought science was simple. It was, like "Send out two ships! One shall have salt lemons! The other shall have salt mice! We'll soon crack this scurvy nonsense! Bwahahah!"
  14. Which was the one where they classically conditioned a kid to be terrified of hair? Ah, those were the days. ~ Calax, you always have to balance the controls against the point of the system. That's true of everything. Flip it around and think abot the worst jobs you've had. They're the ones where no-one trusts you NOT to be an ****, and they're constantly looking over your shoulder. And which jobs did you get disillusioned with and start acting up on, even though you're probably a good employee?
  15. They don't all have quotas For instance the department where my cousin (mentioned in the police thread) works only the motorcycle cops have quotas for how many tickets they give because that's pretty much their only function Also, I would say that the war on drugs, three strikes laws, for profit prisons, and a culture that glorifies criminal activity would be much more likely culprits for our ridiculous prison population I'm with Shady on all these points, except I'd caveat my objection to three strikes. The problem with is the bar is too low. I personally believe there are career criminals who just need to be out of circulation. But three low grade felonies isn't what I'm talking about. ~ I missed the comment about the constitution with like buttons, first go round. You should set up a page with that. Could be interesting.
  16. "Your rifle is your best friend..." ~ I'm learning to manage a new business by starting on the shop floor. Hopping around like a mentalist most days. Rule 1 for me is if I've stopped moving then I've forgotten something I was supposed to be doing. Fortunately I'm getting old, so I still get rest breaks. Given half day, to enjoy the sunshine! Good management skills there.
  17. Wait, is that you smiling or him?
  18. I thought we could use a thread for things that make us smile wryly and shake our head, rather than guffaw. I smile wryly and shake my head when I ask Youtube for Joni Mitchell, and in the trail it shows me Nicki Minaj...
  19. I think it was Stanford. not sure where Stanford is .
  20. It's only just occurred to me that some of you may not have come across the classic prison experiment from the 1960s. Or Milgram's obedience experiments. I really think you should check them out. I'm not going to link because that would make it too easy. If you look them up yourselves based on my partial description, you will be subject to a consistency bias and be more inclined to actually read and understand them.
  21. My point was that I have spent months studying global warming and wrote a paper on it. I'm not talking out of my ass here nad my research has led me to one clear conclusion. Wut? Well, then I can see why you'd feel you were on solid ground. But I'd suggest your tutor buck up a bit if they didn't explain anything about feedback and/or complex systems. You may poke them with a blunt object from me. Since the original point seems to have fallen away, I recapitulate: don't wave a flag for scientific rationality as if it's all very straightforward.
  22. Volo, it's just my opinion, but this isn't even trolling any more. This is
  23. Sure. Which is why it isn't appalling that Internal Affairs exist. Not to mention parrallel security organisations, and democratic officials above them. You can't possibly expect organisations to police <sic> themselves all the time. But don't let me disturb your fun. You crack on screaming about twisted evil policemen.
