Taken from The Unofficial Star Wars Encyclopedia Sith this ancient race of insect-like humanoids was characterized by its dark, red skin, cranial horns, and long bony chins. There were several subspecies of Sith, each with its own place in their society. Some were slaves, other were warriors, and the highest caste of all were the magicians. They lived in a remote sector of the ancient galaxy, and were unknown to most until a group of Jedi Knights discovered their existence. The early Sith regarded the Dark Jedi as gods. The Force-sensitive Sith magicians proved to have control over the Dark Side of the Force, and the Jedi took many of their tomes and teachings back to study. They hoped to determine ways to avoid the Dark Side, but a group of Jedi found the allure of the Dark Side and the Sith teachings too powerful. They rose up against their Masters, but were not yet powerful enough to defeat them. The Dark Jedi were banished from the Old Republic, and chose to flee across the galaxy to the worlds of the true Sith. Over the millennia, the two groups intermingled, until very little pure Sith blood remained. One of the early Dark Lords of the Sith was Marka Ragnos, who was succeeded by Naga Sadow. Freedon Nadd was a later Dark Lord who was caught by the Jedi Knights on Onderon and entombed there. Nadd's spirit invaded the body and mind of Exar Kun, who eventually became a Dark Lord himself. They developed a rigid hierarchy of magicians and warriors, with the leadership of the brotherhood falling to the current Dark Lord of the Sith. The Sith wrote expansive volumes on the control and use of the Dark Side, and described incredible manifestations of power. Later, they were able to created amulets and weaponry that could assist the user in controlling the Dark Side. These devices amplified the Dark Side, making the user incredibly powerful. Much of the Sith lore was hidden on various worlds when the ancient Jedi Knights first sought to eradicate the Sith. Some was stored on Korriban, some on the moon of Yavin 4. The last remained true-blooded Sith were wiped out by Exar Kun during the Great Sith War, when he stole their life energy in an effort to defend his fortress on Yavin 4 against the forces of the Old Republic. How long do we have to wait?
EnderAndrew replied to Craftsman's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The screenshots and concept art already give us a lot to speculate about. People are too busy bitching about Carth, or debating robe styles to discuss them however. Consider the asteroid exploding, or that odd gridwork above a planet. The new Sith with a mask. The sceenshots show combat with multiple types of enemies, something KOTOR was skimpy on. Why is there a character wielding a red (usually Sith/evil) and a blue (good-guy) lightsaber at once? PC's obviously could do this in the first game, but this suprises me in an official screenshot. What are those red-glowing things around the handles of the two lightsabers? There is an interesting bridge/navigation area in one the screen-shots. Whose ship is that? What is that big-uber-droid in the last screenshot? Is Peragus actually an asteroid and not a planet? What are the new creatures in concept art? What are the purposes of the laser beams in the third concept art? Are Kreia's robes modelled after Samurai garb? What are the new locations? Is Mira single? There's a lot to talk about. -
New interview posted at ValhallaGamers.com
EnderAndrew replied to evil.E's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Once someone completes their training, are they still an apprentice? Revan could have trained one or two other Jedi, and let them loose over the years. Then he took on Malak, and they became Sith. -
Damn, I need to make a mod for KOTOR:2 to incorporate that Gungan/Ewok mating angle now.

Where is everyone???

Everyone is hiding under your bed. -
How long do we have to wait?
EnderAndrew replied to Craftsman's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
We just got two new interviews. Everyone is up in arms about how exactly robes will look, and people have been critical of early screenshots. There is a lot of time between now and Feb. I say give us a few Developer Diaries and I'll be happy for a while. Hold off on screenshots/movies until more models/levels/textures are done. -
Questions the the Devs - Take 2
EnderAndrew replied to EnderAndrew's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
This was already implemented in KOTOR:1. Lightsabers are modified by either STR or DEX, which ever is higher. And armor does affect your DEX. Each armor has a maximum DEX bonus. If you DEX is 16, and you have a DEX bonus of 3, but you put heavy armor on (with a max DEX bonus of 2), then your bonus is reduced to 2. Also, side note, I have updated the list to include new info from Akari and the FU interview. The MCA interview didn't really have any new info on KOTOR:TSL. I will try to keep the list up-to-date as I can. -
MCA just PM'ed me the plot and it involves Gungan and Ewok mating, lots of it. Well, okay, maybe he didn't.

For what it's worth, Battlefront and Republic Commando both look like they will be good games.

The NFL has many great coaches. The NBA has so many coaches makingly insanesly stupid decisions day in and day out, it doesn't take much to be considered a great NBA coach. Jordan said if Jackson wasn't coaching, he would retire, and he loved basketball. That says alot to me. When Phil went, so did a lot of players. Yes, Phil won all 9 titles with great talent, so did Red Auerbach. And LA had both Shaq and Kobe before Phil Jackson, and couldn't win a title. Phil comes around, and they win three in a row. That should say something.

The number of tiles on the screen were the same as Ultima IV, I believe. However, when in forests/mountains, or at night, your visibility would get impaired in Ultima V. And on the C64, I had the FastBoot cartridge on the back.

Suggestion on improving Kotor2 from Kotor1
EnderAndrew replied to Asianpride9's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
FU confirmed what I already feared/figured, that the game is too far in production to implement alot of these suggestions. I think the idea of joining a faction specifically is a rather good one, but one that would have an impact on so many quests, it is unlikely to be developed. As far as comparisons between KOTOR and GTA, I'm not even going to go there. -
The game aspired for greatness and fell on it's face. It would be quite a project to pull off successfully.

Armor Restriction/Force Powers
EnderAndrew replied to anari_quun's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Balance, what balance ?!? What is this balance that you speak of ?!? I never seen it in KOTOR, maybe i missed it... Would it be better to say, an attempt at balance? -
And he brought championships with him. Six titles ain't too shabby. The players loved him in Chicago. The egos in LA question him, and they don't play to their potential because of it.

Read an interview with Toby Maguire sometime. He comments on how most of the celebrities at Lakers games aren't fans, but faces that want to be seen in the crowd. Sure Tobey, and Jack are real fans, but since celebrities fork over big cash to have tickets in the social event in LA, it prevents real fans from attending.

I had a C64 as a kid. It took 20 minutes to boot some games, but I loved it. Now, I need to hunt me down one.

The scary thing is we may someday see a Star Wars Diablo 2 clone. LA tries to hit all the genres. I wouldn't buy it however, nor do I think Obsidian would make it.
-
I think Blizzard run circles around them, Square-enix are all about graphic detail and little else... I disagree, but you're entitled to your opinion. Diablo's click-and-kill I find boring. Starcraft and Warcraft 3 were alright, but nothing spectatcular. With each new Sqaure-Enix game, you get a new world, plot, mini-games, and new combat systems. In FF7 you had materia, in FF8, you had guardians, etc. The "rendered movies" put out by Square-Enix are the finest on the planet. And the CGI in the new FF movie coming out in unreal. I've seen some people who don't enjoy playing FF movies because they are too cinematic, and that's their call. But I think it's not fair to say that Square-Enix games are graphics and nothing else. I'd wager you hadn't played many of them.

Speaking of which... why the &^%$$# couldn't they have put that on a single dvd ? Farcry comes on dvd, UT2004 comes on dvd, you would think that a publisher like LA could figure out how to put files on a dvd too. Ah well, first thing I do when buying a new game, is to download the no-cd crack anyway For what it's worth, I bought KOTOR on a DVD and played it on a DVD, in my X-Box.

What are your favorite improvements for KOTOR II?
EnderAndrew replied to Darion 's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
FU said in his recent interview that planet size will be similiar to KOTOR. This disappoints me greatly, but what can you do? Maybe there will be an expansion pack for KOTOR:TSL, or maybe KOTOR:3 will be considerably bigger. -
Am I the only one who thought that Ultima V was a better game than Ultima IV? Ultima IV was innovative and different, but the game felt unfinished. There was no villian to speak of. The plot was lacking, and the game was filled with silly NPCs with names like Shakespeare and Buddha. Ultima V took the concepts of the virtues introduced in IV, and took them to the next level. The game took a darker turn, and introduced villians. There were more plots and sidequests. Dialogue was improved, features were added, and a much better tileset to boot. Long live Ultima V!

Thrawn was an incredible villian. I too was disappointed he didn't come back, but in another sense, that's been done before in Dark Empire. I give Zahn credit for not relying on his safety net, and instead putting the books on the shoulders of Mara, and Luke.

I have the greatest plot in the universe. A child is born of immaculate conception to a slave girl on a remote, desolate planet. Small parasites in the boy suggest he may have vast power. So I risk the boy's life for personal profit despite logic and arguments to the contrary, and then this boy of magnificent power is left unnatended, so that he accidentally entires a dangerous space battle and takes credit for blowing a lot of stuff up, that the droid probably did anyways. All the game needs now is a really annoying cartoony character....

Armor Restriction/Force Powers
EnderAndrew replied to anari_quun's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The reasoning behind armor is merely one of game balance in my opinion, not one that makes a whole lot of sense. If you want to know what's been discussed, check the stickies in the Sith Lords discussion.
