  1. I found the lightsaber combat in JA very confusing. Obviously I never mastered it, but I found myself, as you described, jumping around all the time, pressing the mouse button and running rather than an actual "duel".
  2. Now we can just replace "Squaresoft" with any name and that statement would be right, the level of fanatism around games is absurd. I expect one day some fanboy straps some explosives to his body, heads into a publisher bulding and blow himself up. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ironic really, considering this is exactly how I'd describe you and your obsession with the d20 ruleset and how you blow a fuse when anything deviates from it. "
  3. Because of the KOTOR2 release? Or to have it come out closer to Revenge of the Sith?
  4. This surprises me too. I played through the original 5 complete times and 7 total attempts (lost interest at various points in the final 2 tries), and I was expecting to equal or even surpass that with this game. Hopefully it's just varying opinion.
  5. It might be. But isn't RC coming out around the same time as the PC release? Maybe they'll have some sort of "2 for 1" deal thingy.
  6. How do you know what music sounds like in the TotJ era? Apart from comic books, that era hasn't been covered, so unless you had comic books that also played music, I think it's a bit of a stretch to suggest what type of music or how that music should sound in the TotJ era (KOTOR era).
  7. That's two completely different things. There is no "gamer" that the story writer has to gear his/her story towards. In a game, you build a story around the idea about what the majority of gamers (in this case, male gamers) would play as and write their love interest accordingly. In movies, it isn't necessary because the audience is always a third party member. We don't "control" a character, so the story can be told from a neutral point of view.
  8. I think the reason they chose Bastila to fall is because of the strong romance towards a male PC (figuring the majority of gamers are male, and would choose a male PC). I'm sure that if they (the big wigs making marketing decisions) felt that the majority of consumers were female gamers, you'd likely have seen the leading male romance character fall to the DS instead. It had nothing to do with sexism and everything to do with Bastila being the prominent love interest and thus making it a more "pronounced" fall since someone your PC "loves" fell to the DS.
  9. Considering this is the first review that disliked the story and dialogue to this degree, I'm going to have to tend to take the majority of the reviewers' opinion about the story and dialoguebeing good.
  10. I'm still not sure why you're so against her fall to the DS. IMO, that was actually one of the more interesting parts of the game. She had the character profile of someone who would fall. Plus I don't think it was "sexist", considering they made a complete weenie out of Carth, so obviously they weren't just picking on the female characters. :D
  11. Have you read the NWN2 FAQs? Just a small point. NWN2 is going to be situated in areas AROUND NWN2 as well. It's not just doing the same city over again. Stop oversimplifying things.
  12. That was one of the positives, as far as I was concerned. I don't like playing an existing character (Revan was an exception because, technically, he wasn't "existing" before KOTOR was made). Uh, did Kyle Katarn exist before Dark Forces? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He was the star of the series leading up to that point. I didn't mean he was in one of the Movies or novels, but that he had already been "seen" before.
  13. Yeah, but without specific details about what each wrote, Gaider saying he wrote her "ending" could mean the dialogue and whatnot aboard the Star Forge. It doesn't necessarily mean he wrote the stuff on the Unknown World or the Leviathan where she actually fell to the DS. He could have just been responsible for the last couple of dialogue where she confronts Revan aboard the Star Forge.
  14. That wasn't the point though. Now you're talking about the DIFFICULTY of combat, which then necessitates more action on the part of the player. I'm not arguing that KOTOR was as DIFFICULT as BG2 or whatever. I'm pointing out the fact that you say that KOTOR is nothing but "press button and wait" and that disqualifies it as a RPG is wrong, since technically you can do that in BG2 and NWN as well. Obviously in order to actually defeat an enemy, BG2 needed you to do more than that. But that speaks towards its DIFFICULTY, not towards how you just "push button and wait".
  15. Where did you hear this? Not saying it isn't true, I just didn't think more than one writer wrote the storyline. (Karpyshyn)
  16. I suddenly picture Darque in that Princess Leia slave girl outfit in Jabba's palace.
  17. You've never worked for a small business or a starting out company have you? Like I said, if a new company said something like that to Lucasarts, Lucasarts would turn around and say "Ok no problem. We have 10 other developers who are willing to meet our deadlines." And take their business elsewhere.
  18. Except for the fact you're brand new and you have to start somewhere. Landing the SW: KOTOR franchise was a big coup. Any brand new developer that turned that down on "principle" or because they wanted to do everything their way would be out of business in no time.
  19. LOL you sure you want to keep that thought of Lucasarts? Don't forget it's the same company that promised COUNTLESS times a simultaneous release, then changed their minds and didn't even give an explanation for it. Judging from the way they do business, customer losses isn't a big deal to them.
  20. There was more to just "press a button and wait" in KOTOR as well. You don't need to lie about its simplicity to try and prove a point. When I played BG2, if I pressed the button once, my character would take on an enemy until either he or I died. Yes, you could do other things, but technically you could let it "auto fight" for you, just like KOTOR. Same with NWN. So singling out KOTOR for this aspect is an out and out lie.
  21. Hey, I don't mind them having their opinion. I just have an issue with Drakron's statement about KOTOR not being a RPG because all you do is click once or whatever his exact quote was. That's clutching at straws on his part in a vain attempt to support his arguments against a game he clearly dislikes. edit: sorry, his quote was "press a button and wait".
  22. That's assuming Lucasarts will allow Obsidian to work on a patch. With the cost cutting going on at LA recently, I'm a little worried they might consider a patch as "unneccesary spending". <_<
  23. So then NWN and BG are also not considered RPG by your definition?
  24. I'm just worried that's what they'll be saying to us if/when the PC version comes out and has even more bugs.
