Why are we exluding Torment? It had a bunch of deep characters and was done by the same authors. The majority of RPGs don't have deep characterization. I'm not going to argue your feelings. What I'm saying is that the reason she felt real was that she was utterly unreal. You called her a deep character, and I disagree. She's shallow and one-dimensional, and that's her appeal. She's like the Lady of Shallot or the bride who keeps her candle burning as she waits for her bridegroom throughout the night or the companion cube from Portal. Deionarra does not have personality because she's not a person; she's a symbol. That you feel strongly isn't strange. People react strongly to symbols. Nor is that fact that they're using a stock character a bad thing as it's very effective in the sort of solipsistic viewpoint Planescape encourages. Edit: This isn't me saying Deionarra was BAD or a product of BAD writing. Shakespeare did the same thing. As did Milton and Dante.

Planescape reminds me of BioShock, in that it's dominated by its atmosphere. Voice work is never good or bad, it's just what the character sounds like. This may mean that I interpret the character in a different way than the writer/designer intended. Sure there

There were wonderfully fleshed characters in Planescape, but Deionarra was not one of them. Deionarra's only personality trait was that she was utterly devoted to the Nameless One, but that also happened to be a personality trait of almost every major NPC in the game. Edit: This is going to sound cynical, but I see the popularity of Deionarra as a function of her lack of personality. She's a blank slate, but she's totally in love with the Nameless One. She can be anything the player imagines their dream girl to be. If you want sweet and innocent, you can decide she's that. If you want intelligent and wise, you can decide she's that. The only constant is that she'll never challenge or bother you cause she's a dead girl who can only beg for your attention.

I'm not talking a BioWare made game. That's like suggesting Bethesda do KotOR III! BioWare has a specific style of gameplay that they're used to, and they're not going to change that formula. However, we're getting off topic. I think a new thread might be in order.

That was what I was talking about people. And here I was wondering why every Bio game is dumber and dumber. Lewt and stats aren't what make RPGs intelligent. Combat is not what makes RPGs intelligent. Real choices with realistic consequences, intelligent stories, and deep characters are what make an RPG intelligent, and they're the biggest thing lacking from the DnD model cRPGs are following. As long as the player's biggest concerns revolve around class/race, creating the best build to kill the various 82,941 mobs they encounter, and getting XP, RPGs will never grow as a genre. World of Warcraft is nothing but combat, gaining XP, inventory, and managing character skills and talents, but it

As you might know, I'm one of the two 'wiki admins' for the Dragon Age wiki. I started a thread two days ago so we can get some information on the naked plant lady, but none of the developers commented. Right now, about all we know is that she's a naked plant lady.

Please bend over so I can illustrate where you can shove this particular comment. 1) I witness just as much groupthink here as I do on the BioBoards. 2) The average person who hangs out on the romance threads *also* likes combat and wants a great deal of it. 3) I'd like an RPG with no combat whatsoever, no XP, little to no inventory, and no character sheet with a list of skills, talents, and feats. On the other hand, I've tried to suggest that every party member be bisexual and interested in threesomes. And I actually play romance games.

the answer is simple maria, spiked cobalt doesn't have stamina on it, while the regular stuff does. ... One, that's not an answer. Two, I am aware that spiked cobalt doesn't have stamina. Hence my saying that 'I switched out my cobalt armor for spiked cobalt armor, thinking that the boost to crit and hit would be worth the drop in stamina. '

No! Also, my Dranei Paladin hit level 72 last night. I switched out my cobalt armor for spiked cobalt armor, thinking that the boost to crit and hit would be worth the drop in stamina. What was I thinking?! Even with the boost in armor, I am now squishier. I was tanking with a level 70 rogue, and as soon as I switched out, I started hemorrhaging. Even he noticed I was losing HP much faster. At the same time, my DPS went up by 75.

That MEPC was brought up in regards to BioWare patching their games, and the conversation was about BioWare supporting/not-supporting MEPC, I don't think the identiy of MEPC is that hard to figure out.
