  1. actually its the other way around, now more than ever since Bioware was bought by EA
  2. Just finished Culpa Innata, got it suggested by a friend, and i was suprised that i never heared about it before. It is an adventure ('investigator style') game in a possible futuristic, cold and profit oriented nation (or better said 'world union'), in 2047 it was released around late 2006-2007 (depending on where you live) The game is not the best in graphs, but that kind of thing never really mattered to me, however, i was captivated by the game's story as it started rolling (not the first 15 mins i have to admit, it seems i had a hard time to get it moving atleast for me) The music sometimes feeled strange but overall was a great enchantment to the atmosphere and many of the music scores i really LOVE. I only had such reactions to music like from the original Gabriel Knight 1, Baldur's Gate, Spellforce 1 and 2, or a movie example could be the 'Imperial March' of SW I myself always felt like that the real 'pnp spirit of RPG-s' became splitted into what now are the RPG and adventure PC genre-s. This game represents the very best in the adventure genre with its multiple options and outcome variables with a slight randomness what only gives to the feeling of a real story. The game as i got to know gained an adult (!?) rating because misinterpretation and...sillyness of the rating comittee (to put it nicely), i assure all that while it does have sex mentioned, and the player can twice even decide if the character should do it, it is not more adult themed than KOTOR or Mass Effect or Gabriel Knight. Bad marketing, especially from an unknown new game/franchise is always a killing blow to a new 'try' on the markets, so if you like good stories, real pnp and PC adventure games then give a day to try this game out here is the game's site to see a little trailer about the game, so you see that the graphs i mentioned while not being super aren't terrible neither, if you aren't picky about that and would play even 2D/isometric games if they have great stories (or even prefer that above 3D) then you will give the game a rating of 85% or above (my own rate for it would be 95% with totally ignoring graphs) http://www.culpainnata.com/ also here is a second opinion about Culpa Innata that you might aswell be interested in to read from their own forum http://www.culpainnata.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=256 My own special notes about the game: good: story music interesting world replay ability (better said the players willingness to replay it) that in unusal by adventure games hidden background info pieces funny things like the 'Joshua' computer or the Shoe Shop with 'Al' investigation goodies* (i love detective stories with interesting events) bad: for some people, graphs might be it for some reason not every sentence is subtitled, i always use subtitles on in games and especially adventure and detective ones (mainly because i am sometimes unsure about the meaning of some english words or that if i had understood them correctly at all, always good to double-check) minor issue with the cameras, but you can get used to it quite quickly so no worries some voice acting issues (but don't forget this was a low budget first try game and looking at it this way they still made a great job, even if they are unable to pronounce the hungarian names in the game - not to misunderstand, the game is not hungarian made and no i don't suggest it because that ) I was suprised myself about how good this game turned out after i started it sceptically, and i felt i should share my thoughts about it with some other people because of that EDIT: do not forget to patch it! i would have given it a lower ranking if i would had played it without the latest patch as i can see from the old forum complains there
  3. No, it wouldn't. Looking only at levels, it would make him a 12th-level character, since you cannot convert xp values directly between 2e and 3e, as they are too different. However, in your example that still leaves us with the problem of the character magically losing the ability to cast 4th, 5th, and 6th level spells in the transition. For a new "edition" of the "same game", that does not seem particularly elegant to me. I had a on-going campaign of several years at the time 2e went to 3e, and since the rules would not allow smooth conversion, there was no choice, even if I had liked 3e. So it was an easy choice. If the rules force the choice, then the rules lose. Period. Besides, none of the players asked for the change. Those of them who like and play 3e today still don't. i can only say 'gestalt' as an option for moving such chars to 3e and over
  4. fighting better monsters? using 1st and 2nd level spells? the orc is right: dual classing meant the former fighter is crouching behind his buddies for 7 levels worth of fights, tossing off cantrips. a slow and dull way to play through any module or campaign. and also d*mn unrealistic as he already knew how to fight, but forgot it for another 8 lvl-s?
  5. You know, i just started to play 'just cause', and it suprised me how much it feels like a combination of JA and GTA, and those in the nearly best possible way to imbue in eachother. It has 'militia', it has sectors, it has city capturing. the part of GTa means you can drive dozens of vehicles, you only have your main, one 'mercenary' (special agent here) and it has FPS fighting instead tactical one what really makes sad (other than the no tactical fight) is that you have no RPG-like character creation/costumization and levels
  6. i don't because i am sure with minimum config i will be able to play it just like nearly anything else (exceptions are sumtin like Beowulf)
  7. jeez, i liked those also very much..now im afraid if they make any SC2 at all how it would turn out (same company owns both rights of SC and JA) soccermom?
  8. http://www.strategyfirst.com/en/games/JaggedAlliance3/ discuss it, im interested in your opinions
  9. I really don't think so. Most other races bring something that makes them stand out compared to the others. Halflings and gnomes just seem to be small versions of other races (humans and dwarves respectively). They just don't accomplish anything, other than being small. while elves are nature preservers and magicians, the dwarfs smiths and warriors, the gnomes are gemcutters and loregatherers, and the halflings are the agrivcultural race (note this is different from the elves 'role' because they cut woods to create new fields) and the race that is mostly always optimistic, and that helps to have a community stay on a normal lever of entertainment with having hope and to assure that that world's everydays don't get so grey and dull as ours (for the majority anyway) halflings are the quick and agile ones, sadly dnd doesn't represent this that great, from books and stories its clear that halflings are more nimble than even elves, but since both elves and halflings gain the same agility bonus in dnd, and since elves get the secret door detection and are considered to be the 'good looking' race they usually outclass the halflings. I say the race is great, but that the races in dnd are unbalanced and some subjugate others gnomes are the curious ones, they are also mastercraftsman as their cousins the dwarfs, but they have better abilities with the arcane, what you can't tell about the dwarfs. gnomes produce a great part of the magical items you can buy in shops, because they always refine their abilities and try new things out, if you find in a shop some strange item or something that has a new, unknown or unexpected ability then there is a huge chance the creator was a gnome, they are the best jewelers, this is important mostly because the magic style and the wizards that use gems, they are also great alchemists because they smell the minor differences in alchemical liquids better than any other player reace. again i have to tell the problem lies with the way dnd handles its races and the subjugation of some of them, also i have to agree with JB that the races now are very much predisposed, but not just by the book creators, sadly many people even as they are rpg-ers do not have enough imagination to create NPC/PC-s above the standard CASTES of the races and thus people suddenly don't expect more from that race anymore. spider, you mentioned Mazzy, she is a good example of a well created character, if you think about it you will realize not many GM-s (or sadly even some bookwriters these days) take the time to fully evolve a character and make it a true personality that people could hate or like. I suggest you to look at Claudio Pozas's art of some characters, you will see some well known 'types' of characters while many are more unique and interesting, its just some drawings, but if visual can be so different you can think about how good it could be to create a real background and characteristic for some of them.
  10. tell that to their gods btw: you could say the same about humans, elves, orcs, or any other race then aswell
  11. I'm not sure exactly why gnomes get me. I'm not a fan of halfings much either, might just be the annoyance of small weapons. Could also be the lighter tone of all of their cultural stuff, or they way that most players always play goofy, "whimsical" gnome characters, and most of my games lean towards the darker side of things. JB, then you really never knew the little ones as I did, only once i had a player who played a gnome bard as one you described, I myself had a halfling barbarian who massecred the people who made stupid jokes on him...was quite a bloodbath, and a lot of times that happened. (well, atleast he gained leves quicker than the others) 1) Tieflings rul, gnomes drool. 2) Star Wars SAGA rules. ?
  12. this thread just turned from very bad to very bad + gross
  13. Obsidian should buy Interplay....but then at once kick out Herve EDIT: this would also mean Obsidian could use for itself the old Black Isle logo after they bought Interplay....because guess what: the isle is made from OBSIDIAN!
  14. While Blue Byte made some mistakes, it is still a good developer team in my eyes with games like Settlers 2, Settlers Heritage of Kings, Albion, BattleIsle, Archimedean Dynasty, and I also await the reworked Settlers 2 However, its main 'flagship', the Settlers franchise came under a lot of change since Settlers 1-2, and i have to say I didn't like too much the cartoony 3D episodes 3 and 4, i did enjoy the overhauled Heritage of Kings, even if it had not much in common with the mentioned 2 episodes...however: i have the feeling it managed to take the original spirit of Settlers back to the right trail after a long time, maybe even resurrecting it. Now while I download the beta game, i have to think about the trailer foor this game: Settlers 6, or 'Rise of an Empire' For me this looks promishing, it seems they use the pavement created with 'Heritage', but I am also inteested in what YOU people thing of it till now? PS: it is an open beta, so go and try it out yourself too
  15. can anyone tell when a twi'lek becomes an adult? i thought orcs for example in many worlds tend to be an adult already before age 10, and even humans in reality said maturity comes around 12-14 since before the roman era (even by egyptian one) till about the 16th century
  16. I believe in the lycian Saint Nicholas, yes.
  17. why? would you see anything at all even if the wookie would be naked? No, not really... just for the fun of it. Some pink bikinis..... i would actually prefer Mission with and/or without a bikini, but you better ask Aram and Gorgon about the wookie
  18. What if they were furry aliens? pin-up wookie? With a bikini on? why? would you see anything at all even if the wookie would be naked?
  19. What if they were furry aliens? pin-up wookie?
  20. saying one doesnt mean the other one is also true for the same person
  21. In less than a century there might be a chance for a new crusade, and i think USA could be a part of it if they decide already what the hell they really want: ongoing preaching about 'sharing democracy', while doing anything only in their own favor, or actually starting to really spread christian believes and order. I guess that decision will also decide if USA is taking up the flag with the cross and joins their brothers, or if the very same flags will move against them. Increasing 'Jihadism' and muslim extremism, and terrorism only has the effect that more and more christian people have the urge to start a crusade to 'even things out', if these don't change, and if we look at the current situation of the nations, you realize 'a century timespan' to that possible conflict is even too much
  22. add... France Hungary Austria Germany Poland Russia Italy Malta Denmark Luxembourg China India ...to the list of 'not-likers' aswell
  23. Would have been my second choice if I could have made a "prioritised" poll Ever since playing a game called "Beneath a Steel Sky", I've wanted to play games in similar types of settings. Damn, how could I forget Icewind Dale? I even had an empty slot left in the poll this reminds me: we need a BaSS 2 !!!
  24. EVE ...but then again, that costs cash per month
