just curious to see what my makeover would look like....

haha!! i like it! classic So to be aware of everything. Your shoes the pakistani children made. The ciggerette warning on the box. To come out of the cave and leave your comfert zone. Thats where the matrix went wrong, we don't walk out, we get dragged out kicking and screaming till we realize whats going on, unless we dont realize then we run back in.

What would it be like to live life fully, instead of just merely existing?

Are you a fruedian? ^_^

It is a tough question, because you have to ask yourself that question for that is the only answer! Some might be more conscious spritually with a dualistic perspective. focused on a God. Others might look to themselves inwardly and try to understand how they tick. Why they smile when they are nervous and realize that they smile because its their subcosnscious trying to make them happy once again. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I can't ask myself a question when I don't understand what I'm asking. And I still don't understand. What are we talking about? Are we asking what makes something concious? What makes something alive? Are we talking about free will? Intelligence? Obviously, everyone here who is managing to respond to the topic of this thread has grasped something about the topic that I don't see. That's because I don't know what the question is, not because I don't know what the answer is. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> We are talking about conscious living mainly in a philosophical way. Conscious living (to be aware of thoughts and your reality, surroundings.) Each mind is different because each one has a different perspective on life. If you mention the word love, you might think of your mom and father, i might think of a one legged prostitute getting topshelfed. We each intrepret the world radically different. So how are you conscious. Sprirtually: Do you more oftern then not look to a god/s for the asnwer to the situation? Emotional: Do you stress or become joyful about the situation? Intellectual: Do you more oftern then not use your knowledge and seek to rationalize the situation? the philosophy answer - which, for many, is the foundation of philosophy: The Life Examined. To me, this entails a state of non-commitment. A philosopher is an observer more than a participant. His influence is indirect, as inspiration of participants. On the one hand, this setting can be viewed as an even more pitiful form of existence

Haha that would have been funny "

I'm doing a report on this. Im using that quote, thanks!

Intresting fact: Cows produce more milk while listening to music. Makes me think of how i produce more work/money while listening to music. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Plants are more verdant when exposed to classical music than when left in silence or exposed to other forms of music, like rock and metal. I hope you aren't suggesting plants are conscious. Where would the thoughts appear? In a box? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> it would appear in their soul of course duh!

A lot of what we perceive is done through a top-down process whereby our prior knowledge and inferences made by the brain largely determine the final outcome of what it is we are attempting to perceive... thus this would probably fit your 'own reality' theory Hmm... this reminds me that I must organise my lecture notes before uni starts in October  DL <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Intresting, but the left and right brain due communicate though the corpus callosum, where as if that were damaged then i woiuld beleive to have 2 consciousness'. There are a few people out there with this complexity. Its really fascinating to watch them draw, the right hand moves with straight lines while the left hand moves with artistic curves. Fascinating! Edit: Take into consideration that they are drawing two pictures at the same time. while their eyes are closed. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Spiritual, Emotional and intellectual are better criteria. Just thinking out loud
-
Well I was thinking that, that is the beauty of the question "what is conscious living?" it is whatever your reality intreprets it to be! Conscious living to me is to know my own reality, my thoughts. Take words for example. What are they? What I really am having trouble with is finding a criterion. Does a dualistic perspective make sense as a criterion (standard)?
-
What do you think conscious living could mean -- what would it be like to live life fully, to live with total awareness, to live instead of merely existing? What this would involve, and how we can determine if we are living life fullly, living life counciously. And most importantly, what would be a criterion (standard/s) of conscious living. Sorry for the random post, but im really trying to find a criterion!

Wait until you see people's lives destroyed first hand from addiction. It seems like most people try pot once if not twice. So many of us trivilize the effect it can have on others, thinking that if it didn't screw me up, it can't be that bad. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Good point, i should have thought of that expspecially becuase of my biological father is proof of what can happen when you smoke pot your whole life. He now thinks that he gave intelligence to the US Gov about where Bin Laden was hiding. He still thinks hes going to get his money. He is so paranoid of the outside world that he thinks his house, car, and life is being monitored by the goverement. That al queda is searching for him, paranoia, and halucinations.

I remember smoking some in highschool. I could sense myself getting dumb the more i smoked wacky tabacky. I'm not for anything that kills braincells. Then again i dont want to limit personal freedom. The US goverement wastes huges sums of money on the war on drugs (Gotta love the name WAR on drugs ). I say let it be. Let people do what they want, we let religion happen, we let drinking, and high fructose corn syrup happen, Aspertame. If people want to do it, so be it, there should be huge labels on it (like ciggerettes) telling what it can damage.

Men do have bigger brains BUT women use their brain more effeciently. Also men have good logic skills and are excellent at opening jars, but women are generally better with small groups of people and are more in-tune with their emotional instincts. Either way stereo typing isn't very healthy, its not good to judge a book by its cover. Males simply have a wider diversity of intelligence than females. That is there are more male morons than female morons and more male genii than female genii. Look on sex and intelligence Deary et al. (2003) performed an analysis of an IQ test administered to almost all children in Scotland at age 11 in 1932 (>80,000). The average IQ scores by sex were 100.64 for girls and 100.48 for boys. The difference in mean IQ is not significant. However, the standard deviation was 14.1 for girls and 14.9 for boys. This difference was statistically significant. In the sample studied, 49.6% are girls and 50.4% are boys. Because of the difference in variance between the sexes however, girls are in excess by 2% in the middle IQ range of 90
