I'm not 100% sure, but I think you have to kill Bates during the second Appleby quest (when you infiltrate his mansion). Afterwards this guy shows up somewhere around Tarant offering to sell you the estate.

Will the in-game romances ease my freakishly meager existence with their zany - or conversely: contentious - dialogue and quirky, yet appealingly realistic - and, dare I say, deep (!) -, personae?

To be perfectly honest, I don't know if there's an alternate way of getting your receipt, but that's how I handled it. (Looks like I should've explored the Brothel more assiduously. Damn.)

Books of Blood was hilarious; I remember it - well, one of the stories - had an actress coming back from the grave to give this guy a hummer... for all eternity. (Yeah, talk about commitment.)
