  1. I disagree with that assessment of D&D's magic system; but at least it's clearer now. Anyways, no need to apologize. Errors occur.
  2. Huh? The game obviously has some problems; but most people who have/are played/playing it seem to be enjoying this. Hmm.. This thread is overreacting...
  3. I'm as worried as I alwaysam espicially since the PC almost always has buggier games. In fact, very few of my console games have *any* bugs. "Actually that might not be such a bad idea." Piracy is wrong. Anyone who practices or supports it deserves to be FRIED. No exceptions. "A whole other planet was planned (but remember, K1 had a planet cut out too)" This doens't bother me other than the obvious dissapointment of a lost planet, of course. Every game has things cut. It makes sense. Heck, it's no different than movies, television, and books.
  4. The influence system seems pretty weak comapred to what it was supposedly meant to be. The Influence System was one of the changes I was most looking forward to. Fromw aht i've seen, you have as much influence on the KOTOR2 npcs as you do the KOTOR1 npcs - the only differences is the KOTOR2 npcs do a 'fake" dark/light slider slide. That is plain silly, and a total waste of effort if it is how it works. If a previous Light Sider who helps little ladies is turned dark and still helps little old ladies and doesn't really compalin about it; that's really sad. Like I said in the other thread; it seems that it is the NPCs who influence the PC; not the other way around. They are the Pupper Master; we are the Puppet. R00fles! "The system isn't perfect, but I still think it's preferable over not affecting the NPCs at all." Aye, so it's no change from KOTOR1 then where you can also effect your NPCs. Impressive. As for whose to blame; in this case it's obviously Obsidian since the Influence System is supposedly their baby. If epople are gonan give credit to Obsidian for the good stuff they did for the game (which I';m sure exist as it seem like it'll be a fun game); they surely deserve the blame for things ther erred on. Meh.
  5. "Couple that with Bioware's "one Ding per hour of gameplay" design philosophy" I've never played a BIO game where it was a ding per hour. Maybe 1 per 1 1/2 hours at worse. And, I've yet to see another developer really do much better. Certainly not Obsidian/BIS; that's for sure. "I'm just afraid that when we're talking about Bioware, anyway, "epic story" " If you hate epic stories that much; perhaps you shouldn't play BIo games. Afetrall, BIO isn't going to stop making them. That's their preferred type of story and they ain't about to change it for you. "There are good mana based systems and bad mana based systems. D&D had (IMO, of course) one of the worst mana systems" I hope so so D&d and hence BG series is not mana based. The soceror is the closest it has to mana magic. "Why *PUKES* and *2X PUKES*? It's just different." PUKE X3. Mana systems at best are toelrable (see BL); at worse they are outright terrible (see Diablo). KOTOR's 'mana system' is at the lower end of the scale.
  6. "Even though I'm glad to see a very high score for this game, reviewers tend to lose credibility, even if just a bit, in my eyes when they make statements like the one Volourn quoted, since anyone who has followed this game even semi-closely would know that amnesia isn't used as a plot point." A. All reviewes will contain errors. At least if it's worthy. B. Not everyone - even professional reviewers - babysit games pre release. C. Though I have yet to play the game; it's clear at the very least; that the beginning of the game as regards to the PC's "amnesia"/past isn't really shown to the player in a very clear manner. That is probably as much the fault of the writing as it is of the player. It's not the player's job to untangle confusing wriiting. Complex writing is good; confusing writing is not. P.S. Unless your name is Volourn rambling on the 'net. :D
  7. "So I presume you hate Bloodlines' magic (discipline) system then? It, too, is a mana type system (mana = blood, certain numbers of blood points are required to cast your "spells"). " Not my fave way of doing these however, BL's 'mana system' is livable for certain reasons: A. It doesn't automatically regenerate. B. You can only "cast' it several times before running out. In reverse, KOTOR's force powers mana system is pretty silly because you are almost guarnateed to NEVER run out of force pwoer inbetween battle. this is true for 99.9% of mana magic type systems. I know many dislike it; but I so much prefer D&D wizardy/scholary system for magic. Mana systems only work under extremely tight circumstances and even then like in BL; I tolerate them. Definitely not my first choice.
  8. Not a bad review even if it goes oevrbaord most likely in its praise. One thing made me chuckle is this: "You'll wake up with amnesia - yes, this handy old Bioware-favorite plot element comes back" A. KOTOR2 PC doesn't have amnesia. B. BIO has only used amnesia as a major plot device once. R00fles!
  9. "Got you back for the AI henchmen in JE thing" LOL Not quite. I actually first heard about the silly mana thing yestersay. Utter garbage,. Alreayd a huge black mark on DA's character system. Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. *DOUBLE PUKE* "And yes, I agree with Volourn." You gotta be jokin', 213374U. I think that's the first time you've agreed with me after I posted something. "Bioware knows how to create game engines and gives good technical support for their games but their stories of late have been rather lackluster." Yeah, Hades, keep playin' the tune while anyone who read your KOTOR review knows better. Afterall, you called it a great story; one of the best CRPG stories. And, let's not forget your highly postive reaction to HOTU's story. Seriosuly, cna't you keep your own opinions straight? WOWSERS! "For PC, yes. I have no idea why I'm telling you this but since you so kindly asked I just might. I don't like games with no multi-player" DA has multi player. And, it'll likely have as much support as NWN did for PWs and NWN PWs have done rather well. And, BIo actually does "unofficially" support NWN PWs. I'm sure they'll liekly do the same if there's a demand for it after DA's release. "The plot, characters, and settings were all Bio's work. Black Isle did stuff like voice talent and whatnot." Alan, shh. Don't break people's hearts. Giving credit to BIo for BG1&2's success is wrong. That was all BIS. BIo only made the engine. All I have to say about the BIO vs. Obsidian "feud". (R00fles!). BIo is a successful comapny, and Obsidian is anew company formed from the remains of a failed company. It hurts; but it's the truth. I can say that even though I liked PST, and IWD1 and loved FO2. I won't mention IWD2. Ooops, I did. That is all. For now.
  10. Lots of misconceptions here. DA has MP. DA also has a toolset. However, DA is more focused on the SP that either NWN1 or NWN2 will be. DA will support PWs as much as NWN1 did or NWN2 will most likely. I'm looking forward to NWN2 because I love D&D, and I'm sure it'll be a pretty good game and since Obsdiian is focusing more on the OC than BIO did for NWN1; I believe the OC should be better than last time. DA will also be cool. The rules system will probably make or break it though. Since we know very little about it though at the moment it's hard to judge the game. NWN2 is a must buy. Knowing BIo; I'm sure DA is also a must buy. "mana based magic system" *PUKE* Absolutely disgusting.
  11. http://pc.ign.com/articles/572/572673p1.html All rumours; though.
  12. " It might actually be fair, but we humans tend to remember only exceptional things. We're funny like that. " That could be true. plus, bad number runs are a lot more harmful to PCs than it is for enemies.
  13. "Perhaps in the hope that they would eventually get it right. I mean, how hard can it be to code an honest random number generator?" A. As games have illustrated in the past, hard. B. The NWN/KOTOR engine is one of the best number generators for a RPG out there. C. It's nowhere near as bad as the intital poster makes it seem.
  14. This is definitely a flaw. Those whoa re complaining about KOTOR; first off it wans't so easy to turn someone in that game. And, like with Batista; when she goes DS she acts it.. Like oner person points out, it seems the PC is the puppet in KOTOR2 while the npcs are the Puppet Masters since you basically have to kiss thier behinds. It seems to me, they are the ones with influence over your behaviour. R00fles!
  15. "I bought both, they were buggy as hell and no I am not posting in the wrong forum kotor1 and 2 are built on the nwn engine and the random # generator has not improved one bit in atleast 5 games that have used it." Yet you continue to buy games made on that engine just to continue complaining about it? "
  16. "The random # generator in the nwn engine has got to be the biggest pos example of programming on earth. No matter how high a foe has to roll to make a save they will make it 9 out of 10 times. One thing that has always pissed me off in every nwn engine game to date is wasting an entire power bar or spell book trying to get one spell or power to stick on one creature that amazingly makes his save of 18+ every time while you amazingly miss your save of 5 or higher atleast 50% of the time. Some things never change. " Eh. Not perfect; but there's been worse. Much worse. Just check out TOEE or gamer forbid, POR2. *shudders* "i havent played nwn......is it worth buying? and about whatever your talking about was irritating in kotor aswell so no doubt it will be just as frustrating in nwn" I'd say yes; others would say no. I've owned the game sicne its elease 2+ years ago and I still pretty much play it every day. In fact, it just got another update this week. WOWSERS! "I...uh...think you posted in the wrong forum. " Mayhaps. But, he could be counting the KOTOR1/2 engine as aprt of the NWN Engine...
  17. "No, that was Troika, not Source." I don't believe you.
  18. Hi.
  19. Source Engine is overrated. Sure, it has great graphics; but the bugs and other crap it brings to the table can absolutely ruin it. The Source Engine almost destroyed BL for me. If it wasn't for that stupid engine, BL would probably be in my top 5 favorite RPGs of all times. Bah.
  20. Aye. It's not as bad as I thought it be. That's pretty good news. I was fearing level 30, 40, or even worse. heck, when the game was first released I was really frighten withen i ehard 'I'm level 18 and only 12 hours in." R00fles! This isn't *too* bad. Not ideal; but managable.
  21. "Hi, I'm brand new here too. I heard this is where Feargus Urquhart is passing out free copies of his autobiography so I decided to sign up." Says the guy with nearly 3k posts. " And, oh, hi to the real new guy. Also, ignore the trolls who flamed you for no reason.
  22. More aggresive? Nah. I'm an aggressive jerk everywhere.
  23. "It's the only reason I still have faith in Troika after ToEE. Troika loves to discuss what they did wrong, and what could have been better in Arcanum and ToEE." Yeah, while mostly blaming the publisher for most of the problems and how "complex" their games are.
  24. "That's why Troika used it for their RPG." Yes, and the Source Engine did everything it could to ruin an otherwise good RPG. 90% of what is wrong with BL is Source's fault (and how Troika used it). If it wasn't for that pathetic engine; Bl would probably be in my top 5 RPGs. Alas, it is not. As for people saying BIo doens't have the manpower because they are already working on 2-3 games. I laugh at you. BIO has over 200 employees. Most game companies have about 30-50. I think BIO can *easily* handle another game, or two if they so wish. That said, I don't sign petitions. Petitions are evil.
