Nah. Combat is awesome.

"but could it beat out WoW's numbers?" In the end, I doubt this really matters. A MMORPG doens't need WOW type numbers to be successful no more than a SP game needs Sims type numbers to be successful.

What's up with games that don't feature subtitles?

Long rant on RPGs and comments on Obsidian
Volourn replied to RPGmasterBoo's topic in Obsidian General
"Of course the BG games have more RPing value compared to newer games." O RLY? What role-playing? Very little. That's how much. And, remember, I loved the BG series, too. "You think that NWN does? Not." Absolutely does comapred to BG. Even more so with BIO's newer games. NWN has dialogue skills. BG doesn't. NWN quests have more ways to complete them than BG does. More NWN quests have non combat ways tfor solutions than BG. Character wise, NWN fighters have more ways to make themselves different as one example. The list can go on, and on, and on; but RPG wise, NWN is easily better. And, oh, I like BG/BG2 more than the OC; but logically, it's ludicrous to claim that BG or even BG2 has more actual role-playing than NWN, JE, or ME. It's beyond silly. "Knights 1 has to be the most entertaining, chiche' based, game I have ever played in a long time." KOTOR is an okay. Not great, and MOTB is wayyyyyyyyyyyy better. No contest. -

"You don't debate Volourn. You tell people they aren't allowed to hold a point of view you don't agree with. He (understandably) feels BG2 is a superior RPG to NWN. Let him express that opinion without jumping down his throat." That's funny coming you. A guy who attacks me 9and others) whenever they say soemthing positive about NWN, and BIO. And, this guy is no diffeent. Look at how he reacted when I gave my opinion on BG2's role-playing in comparison to BIO's newer games. He doesn't want a debate. He wants people to agree with him, and if they don't; he laughs and taunts them. *shrug* No worries. "Its alright... I was somewhat similar to him when I was around 16,17." Ahh.. The 'ol 'Because you disagree with me, you must be a young kid' trick. I forgive you. "It might be good to take a look why I think NWN (1) is a faliure because Oblivion continued this series." Ahh.. See, this is the problem. NWN is anything but a failure. It's BIO's most successful, and all your 'reasons' are opinions not facts even though you list them like they are facts. "The lack of a party eradicated all the tactical options inherent to DnD gampelay (because DnD is not made for solo characters). This led to combat being rendered senseless, and borderline stupid since all you had to do was click on the enemy and wait for him to drop." Great thing about D&D is it's design for variant p0lay. Afterall, there are 'official' D&D adventures specifically designed for SOLO play. And, your description of NWN's combat is exactly how BG's combat worked except NWN gives you a heck of a lot more options. Afterall, ALL fighters can do in BG is click on enemies, and wait 'til they die. -
Long rant on RPGs and comments on Obsidian

"But, this is all spamming, we're talking about Obsidian and who agrees on my other comments, or does not is unimportant." Then why did you post it? Don't post stuff if you don't want people to respond. I actually commented on the Obsidian stuff in this thread. YOU just convientlyignored that because you are too focused in bashing BIO games that are superior to BG2. "So role playing equates to two dialogue choices, good/evil paths which lead to more or less the same result? You're building a character (role playing) on the basis whether he choses two more or less irrelevant choices, so he's either open fist, jedi, paragon, or closed fist, sith, renegade? Not only is this completely detached from reality its, shallow and simplistic. Comic book/fairy tale style morality. I'm just waiting to see when they are going to start colour coding the responses so that people wouldnt even have to read the dialogue anymore. Not that there was much to read in ME." Sounds like your precious BG2. Nothing you wrote has shown thta BG2 is a better RPG than ME, or BIO's other recent RPGs. Not surprising because it's one area that BG2 will lose pretty much every time. "Heaven forbid anybody have a divergent opinion about Bioware to you, Volourn." Heaven forbid anybody have a divergent opinion about Bioware to you, Krezack. P.S. You do realzie we're debating two BIO games right? -

"Sorry but this is absurd. BG2 has everything those games have and more. Even its playing time is larger than all of them combined." It's absurd that anyone would think that BG2 and esp0icially BG1 actualkly have more ROLE-P0LAYINg than BIO's newer games. It's not even a contest. BTW, longer does NOt equal role-playing superiority, " I think even the guys from Bioware would be shocked to hear this." That's their opinion, and I doubt every BIO emp0loyee has the same preferences. Afterall, there's like 300 of them. That said, BIO has gone on record to call NWN their most successful game ever. "You're the first person I've seen in the last 7 years who would even venture to compare NWN and JE with BGII..." Either you lived in a hole, or purposefully ignored people who have had different opinions than you. MANY people share my opinions. Many don't. *shrug* Also, by me saying that JE is better at role-playing than BG/BG2 is NOT the same as me saying it's a better game. BG2 is a better game; but JE is a better RPG. Period. -
"You have a very inhumane opinion on this matter" Sweet. I'm glad you think I'm not human. Dehumanize me more. I'm not gonna apologize for calling a spade a spade. A murderer is a murderer, and ther eis no excuse for it. And, no, being abused, or abandoned when you were a kid is NOT a good excuse. "I don't know how common guns and ammunition are in your country, but based on your reasoning it seems like they are." My country is not 'full of guns'. We have our gun collectors; but nowhere enar the level of the States. And, we certainly arne't crime ridden. Well, Toronto is pretty close. Hehe. "If you're not armed or try to fight, you are also less likely to get hurt. I'd like some proof from you if you disagree with that. If you were some hoodlum and robbed someone, would you rather shoot a person who also threatens you with a gun or someone unarmed?" Tell that to the unarmed civilians who usually led the death rates in nearly any war. And, if youa re ahoodlum youlikely have no problem killing shooting unarmed people. I think you hold the hoodlum's morals in such high esteem, and I don't know why. The fact said hoodlum has a gun and is thretaening people with it tells me his scruples aren't exactly one of being a pacifist or non violent. "I'm not implying that "without guns it'll be Happy happy Land with no violence mass or otherwise". However, I do think that the number of people killed or wounded unintentionally during a heist, theft or whatever will decrease. The number of people killed by non- professional criminals and psychopaths will also decrease." Disagree. Violence, and the threat of violence has nothing to do with guns. It has to do with people. Guns are not the issue. They're a tool like anything else. You do realzie that much violent crime is commited between family members, and those who know each other right? And, while I don't have the numbers before, I bet most violence in the home (ie. abusive spouses and parents) are done without guns. "KILLING AND WOUNDING OTHER PEOPLE = NOT GOOD" Simply not always true. I find it a GOOD thing to kill a wood be kidnapper trying to kidnap my child (if I had one), or my neice. And, I wouldn't cry about it. In fact, I'd be disghusted even more that the punk put me in a situation where I had to kill him. But, I most certianly wouldn't blame myself. "Right" and "Wrong" is not solely defined by what the law says." FALLACY! ERROR! MISTAKE! You obviously have not paid attention to anything i've ever wrote. I don't base my morals on what the law is. There are TONS of laws I disagree with in my own country and elsewhere. In fact, some of my opinions on current laws would probably have people claling me a moron/etc. again. I don't care about the law says about stuff like scumbags would be murderers who target innocents because of greed. And, I don't care if said criminal is some poor bum off the street, middle class, or high society richer than rich doofus. "Today, we have a prison system that works towards rehabilitating criminals, public education, psychologists, homeless shelters - an entire social safety net which prevents people from becoming criminals. The best way to keep people from becoming criminals is to make sure they have a good childhood." This must explain those people who make good money/come from 'high class' yet still turn to crime. I know some people wnat to believe that everyone at heart is a good person. But, that's naive, and not using one's ehad. Some people ar ejust simply old fashion greedy and selfish. Those two traits are what often leads to people commiting acts of violence. Same with jealousy, hate, and yes even 'love'. Afterall, the husband who abuses his wife than begs for forgiveness is a fine example of this. Anyways, abck to guns. Guns don't cause crimes. Criminals do.

Should have been Michel Rozisval. Though Drury isn't a bad choice.

Long rant on RPGs and comments on Obsidian

The intiitla post is wrong. How can one claim to be a RPG fan,a nd then hold BG2 up as the pentacle of the genre when BIO's presumed 'crappy' games all have far superior role-playing in them. BG2 is an awesome game; but it is not a better RPG than ME, JE, NWN, or KOTOR. And, don't get me started on BG1. And, I say that as I love BG series. " Games that are not fundamentally fun. That is, their core mechanics are not quickly enjoyable or do not have lasting value at a variety of difficulty levels." They're fun enough that I look forward to your next game. *shrug* "* Characters that are not visually appealing. This doesn't mean characters that are attractive, but certainly that's part of it." Eh. Cool enough. "* Poor overall production values, polish, and stability. Not much to say here" Maybe not perfect; but poor is too strong of a word, imo. -
Custom character, or at least option for female
Volourn replied to Dragonesse01's topic in Computer and Console
" then what? " You role-play. I'm not a mass murderer in real life (HONEST!) yet I've managed to role-play one in various games. *shrug* "Well, the ability to identify with someone helps get into character, but to do that you need to find some common ground and then work on that." Yeah, because we all know Anthony Hopkins is an insane yet highly intelligent cannibal in real life. Right. -
Truman dehumanized them. Just like the Nazis did to the Jews. Yes, I went there. Thankfully, Truman didn't follow through. But, he's still a punk.
-
He did dehumanize them. Read his speech that you quoted. He said they had no hearts, and were jsut mechanical. That's dehumanizing them. Truman is now a punk to me.
-
And, we've all heard stories of being shot who weren't armed with guns. *shrug*

Custom character, or at least option for female
Volourn replied to Dragonesse01's topic in Computer and Console
Honestly, someone who can't role-playing the opposite gender has simply proven to lack role-playing skills since one of the main ideas of role-playing is being somebody you are not. Perhaps, those people are into the wrong genre of games. Just sayin'. -
So, he showed the true Democratic 'heart' by dehumanizing his opponents? Awesome. if that's what it means to have a heart; I'd rather not have one.
-
So, I was right what I said about Truman's speech then? You most certainly agree. That's good to know.
-
Harry Truman's speech was toolish. I lik,e how he dehumanizes his enemies. Disgusting. "They're not human, they're machines! They even have machine parts where their heart should be!" L0L0L0L0L0LLIP0P

"you manage to draw your gun and shoot who's robbing you, you have injured and maybe killed another person. From my point of view, that is definitely a bad thing." Nope. Self defense is never a bad thing. If the robber wasn't a robber the situation never would have occur. Stop blaming society for individual's action. Such sob stories don't make me cry. "The last passage here shows that you're a little biased from which country you're from. Where I live, not all criminals have guns/ have the opportunity to choose the gun they like." This doens't even make sense. Whata re you talking about? Nowhere did I say that all criminals have guns. In fact, most 'criminals' in my country likely don't have guns. Your point being what? "It is in fact very logical that you are more likely to be shot if you're armed. But I've already explained that." L0L 'Facts'. Proof, please. Outside of actual war, I doubt this is true. In fact, even in war it's dubious consideirng the number of civilians who get killed. "It's just that having a gun makes it easier for anyone to rob anyone they like" Except things like robbery, and theft have been around for AGES on grand scale well before the invention of the gun. In fact, if I were to make an educated guess, I'd say that robbery/theft as far as frequency per 1000 people is down compared to pre gun history. You keep implying that without guns it'll be Happy happy Land with no violence mass or otherwise. yet, human history disproves that since war has existed for ever. So has banditry. So has murder.

Don Cherry is a bigoted moron. Agree with him at your own risk of looking silly. Ovechkin may not get 'better' in terms of goal scoring; but he's gonna get better most likely when it comes to dominating the league.
-
"though I do agree with the Conservative stance on youth justice. Just because a violent criminal also happens to be under 18 doesn't mean they should be sent on vacation rather than to jail." If you are gonna have laws that limit youth rights on what adults have they also shouldn't have the same obligations or face the same punishments as adults do. It seems silly to say you arne't mature enough to have the rights of an adult; but darn it, we're gonna punish you like you are an adult. Society should make up your mind. If teens aren't mature enough to be allowed to smoke, they most certainly shouldn't be mature enough to br tried like an adult.

That's good advice, Mkreku. Take it.

Doesn't Hasbro have some kind of ownership/partial ownership of Atari anyways? They do, IIRC. So, in the end, Hasbro has some sort of say in what Atari does in general. -
