Interesting, thanks. Hm. Wonder why it's never worked for me in any other game. When I click on .exe's I get the 'login to steam' window. Will be curious if it works on Skyrim or if it'll still pull up Steam. Hmm....
-
Not playing still cause chkdsk is taking forever...but stupid question... Can you all run the game w/out Steam running at all (not even in task tray) by clicking the .exe file? I saw some people say you could, but I've never been able to. I don't let Steam run on boot up tho, maybe that's why?

Based on screens/vids only, I don't think I'll have a problem w/the big UI text. I remember ppl having issues with inventory text/page size in Oblivion too. Never bothered me. Can understand big text for consoles w/ppl wanting to sit far away but it would be nice tho if they'd shrink it down for the pc versions. Guess that's why they give us the editor. Which I still can't download/isn't available.

Making a backup of steam game directory (everything else already redundant enough) and then a mirror /image of the whole drive in case I need to do a disc format later (for ease). Cooking some steaks for dinner. Watching hubby play Rage. It looks really nice on the 50" plasma TV (a lot better than Borderlands did). Waiting for Skyrim.

Don't know, the poster said he took them from Egaf forum users or something. Just had a seeming random major issue with Firefox 3.6 borking up & crashing my pc something awful, maybe corrupted something in Win7. Installed FF 8 and it seems to be better but drat, I should probably reformat after all that. Don't wanna right now...too close to Skyrim. Hope I can hold off a while, hehe.

The rock in this pic, for instance. http://h3.abload.de/img/tesv2011-11-1021-48-0k5d23.jpg (might take a bit to load, their server seem slow)

Anyone tested/looked to see if the game utilizes more than one CPU effectively?

Thanks for all the info, Tig...much better than the "reviews" from players on the Beth fora, harhar. I'm still convinced the game has a good shot of capturing my attention....maybe not as much as FNV did (not sure that's even possible, lol) but much more than the others I've tried since then. So still eager to start playing it myself!

Here is a short "Ultra settings" 1080 vid someone posted of the starter town area I think. Still not "actual HD" in full screen (it's YT) but looks fine non-full screen/gives an idea.
-
Tigs, someone posted that the game has an out-of-game extra options bits, like FNV had, and that just setting to Ultra didn't automatically increase some of those to max. Did you mess with those? Not that I'm expecting anything to change some of the muddy textures. Some textures don't look too bad/pretty good imo, but there's still a lot of the close-up blur stuff. Even on weapons you're holding. Edit: and no matter the screen/vid, I still don't like the artwork of the trees. I seem to in the minority tho...some poeple think they look like a photo, which makes me LOL.

7 hours. *dancing with impatience* Played more Rage last night...but hubs got further in than I did. He was liking it until he reached a spot where he had to win some car races to progress and he rage-bored-quit. Heh.

That pretty much sums it up for my way of thinking. I'm getting used to it actually. Most of the time I find some config. that works, tho some are worse than others of course. (edit..man my brain-to-typing skills really are going downhill in bucket. srsly)

Supposedly you can use WASD for the menu navigation. From a Beth fora post: More:
-
Maybe there's an .ini setting that can override that? ...the hair in this game still makes me go "ugh." It's more line-detailed perhaps, but the artstyle or whatever ... ugh. lol
-
You can hotkey some of the menu stuff or something (I read how, but can't remember offhand), which apparently many don't realize at first, but don't know if that helps the situation...maybe you can hotkey to a mouse button. I'll have to wait and see tho. Hope it's something I can get used to because for my hands controllers are usually worse than a bad PC UI. ...and yeah, I think it does have mouse acceleration. .ini tricks to the rescue, perhaps.
-
What's so terrible about the KB/mouse UI setup? I see ppl complaining but I can't get a clear idea of it...you can reconfigure some of the hotkeys & hotkey some stuff so is it mostly about the design?

Glad to hear it's going so well. I love new toys! Going to OC yours or leave it at stock? Someday I'll learn how to do that...maybe. heh

It is by time zone - locally. US/Canada gets it at the same time (which is affected by our local timezones). But worldwide, different regions do have some difference, AU, because otherwise they'd have to wait a long time past the 11th (I think) to get it, since they're 18-19 hours ahead of (me) or something. Among other reasons or possible localized problems, of course.

I'm rooting for you, Tarna. Here's hoping those scans in a couple months will be positive news.

Ok, that's what I kinda figured. Aliasing definitely shows up more in screens than in motion, even when you have it up high sometimes. Drives me crazy. Heheh.
-
How's it going/what do you think so far?
-
SSD's don't need defragging (so hubby says anyway) so that saves some wear and tear. I do think for the average user longevity probably wouldn't be too big a concern. I'm just personally very, very hard on my drives re:data writing. But in any case, backup system/lots of redundancy is always important.

Rage is fairly fun, at least at the start. I know gameplay mechanics are very different but now that I actually have the game...it still reminds me heavily of Borderlands because of the town setups and the graphics. For some reason I'd thought Rage was going to be a bit more graphically awesome than it is, too. It looks great overall but the textures for most non-NPC up-close things are of the fuzzy sort & it doesn't put much stress on the GPU. Not that it matters to me...just surprised me because I'd thought it was supposed to be more cutting edge. I guess that was more about engine work or something. Gameplay wise, so far it has that more casual shooter aspect that I seem to enjoy. No tech issues w/latest nvidia drivers either.

Curious: is the aliasing on a lot of the non-npc straight lines because of the extra widescreen, you don't have it on, or is the game just poor at it? I like the shot on the battleship/cruiser whatever it is, with the city in the background. Very cinematic.
