RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS
Yeah, that's definitely sensible and what I'd normally do. I'm not actually interested in the game itself. I just want a new shiny and it's been forever since I felt like I had any justification for it. Thanks, next-gen consoles. Or whatever.

PAX South 2015 live thread
Osvir - just wanted to say thanks for the EZ youtube video link. As usual lately I miss things when they're "live."

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS
*looks up Witcher 3's system requirements* ...finally! Soon I'll have my excuse/s to build a new computer. Not that I couldn't run that game. Just wouldn't be very high settings/fps. But I think 6-7 years is probably getting on long enough for a rig. Next fall/winter...yesss, precious.

....Well crap
I think in the past it was a preference largely based on physical appearance/gracefulness - it wasn't just "skinny", but also body ratio things along with it (long legs/short torso, small-breasted, long neck/small head). Now it's possible that the physics part of it is one reason why such looks more graceful to the eye during certain movements, but I think appearance wise, such also creates a straighter "line" (like if you held a string from outstretched hand to toe). Like how some people may prefer "leggy" women. A celery stick just looks more graceful and expressive than a stocky pickle. I think in more recent times they've tried to move away from that being a de facto standard body type in some circles but not sure how successful that's been.

What are you playing now?
That clip had me imagining the film Legend turned into a Disney-fied animated film. Legend actually ruined me re: giant horned devil-like appearance chrs...I can never see one without thinking of Tim Curry, now.

....Well crap
Weight was why I was/would never be a serious ballerina. Too much muscle weight development (vs. height, especially) when I exercise that much. I could be in the bestest shape in the world and they'd all tell me I was too large. Not that I ever wanted to be a pro ballerina. edit: not that that has much to do with physics (I think). Just a "graceful lines"/light on one's feet type of look expectation while dancing thing.

What you having for dinner tonight?
Still, taking a q-tip to the little camera hole might help with the blur. That's kinda what it looks like, to me. It's happened to my little phone-size vid camera. I interpret that as "they all got away." What were you fishing for, if I may ask? Trout? Something else?

What you having for dinner tonight?
Dear Labadal: don't know the condition of said camera, but have you tried running a moist rag over the lens? Chinese food - yeah...one popular thing here is (western) broccoli used in many "Chinese" dishes (broccoli beef, in 'mixed vegtables', etc). Not a vegie native to Chinese cooking. And a lot more meat. But these days there are more places that are more authentic, or at least with more authentic ingredient emphasis, because of all the natural/less-meat trends of the past years. And....since I'm running a fever and have a stuffy nose, I suspect I shall be eating nothing today but some ... chicken noodle soup. With enough hot peppers, I might even be able to taste it.

Movies you've seen recently
Caught "Grand Budapest Hotel" on HBO. Not usually my kind of film, but Ralph Fiennes was hilarious, and all the famous people in small roles were excellent/great fun. I wish Jeff Goldblum would do something "bigger" again (I know he's done some stuff and tv series but you know what I mean). Fiennes needs to do more comedy like Grand Budapest or In Bruges. He's hysterical. What do you call that type of comedy, anyway? Satirical deadpan?

What's on the idiot box... Part 3
lol...I'm glad I'm not the only one who notices that. Although I still find that less distracting as when there *is* liquid in a cup during a scene (or a half eaten sandwich, or a lit cigar/cig) where the level keeps going up and down, up and down...

What you did today
I seem to have come down with a bad flu. Urgh. Thus, today, I mostly slept. And slept. Occasionally woke up to hydrate.

....Well crap
Good thing I never wanted to be a pro athlete. Apparently there's a lot of math involved. Me I'm the sort who just likes to ... get on my bike and ride. I like the wind in my hair.

What you did today
Yardwork/errands, or slough off and play video games. Such tough decisions in my life. It's a travesty. Going on 7 years in this tiny house. Crazy. And I'm still always startled by what the real estate market does in this area. Even crazier. But we're not selling....more sensible to buy a cheaper retirement house elsewhere and rent this one out. Retirement is likely going to = being real estate landlords. Possibly in more than one state. It's an interesting process. Still not sure if we'll stay in Calif. or elsewhere. Although we could move to far N. California and be near some relatives. That might be cool, and still be a fair change. The Bay Area is an interesting place, but I'm pretty sick of it by now.

Triple Crown Solo: Achivement for PoD, Expert Mode, IronMan + Solo
There was a time I might have at least tried such challenges, whether officially a 'challenge' or one people just did on their own. But these days I definitely don't have the patience. Anyone who tries it and succeeds, my hat's off...it sounds really difficult.

New Vampire RPG in development.
perhaps like an alternate ww1 universe with freaking vampires in it? HA! Good Fun! I just meant that it may not be a very historically accurate version of ww1 universe, even outside of the vampires. Like when they make those periods a lot more tech advanced in some movies etc.

Why ban our pretty lady thread?
I'd forgotten about that thread too. Closed it...only fair. My viewpoint on the whole affair is that the thread itself isn't conceptually a big deal (any more than a male version of such a thread would be, lol) but that there can be a world of difference between the "internet's" concept of PG-13 and what a company forum might consider PG-13. I have, in the past, occasionally edited past versions for such reasons. I've left it alone since I've been back, but I would personally agree with the decision to close it. *shrug*

What you did today
BruceVC's positive life-enthusiasm always inspires me. Sounds like a great experience. @GuardDog - I hope whatever the setback is, that a rebound/solution comes quickly.

EA Origin security breach again. Careful if you are thinking of getting Dragon Age: Inquisition
To my way of thinking, that's like hoping to cure the chicken pox by infecting yourself with the measles. ...not that I have anything against Origin/others per se. I just don't want more than Steam right now.

Journalism and sexism in the games industry
Start of previous thread End of previous thread Last few posts repeated here: Well it's rumored that Movie Bob was let go so... Which is why I'm interested. The next person that says "But what are you all so afraid of?! There is no censorship!!!" Look at what can and has happened. Which is why I'm interested. The next person that says "But what are you all so afraid of?! There is no censorship!!!" Look at what can and has happened. You should be, the American comics industry took a huge hit from the CCA and the only survivors were the large publishers who could afford not selling the popular sci-fi and horror comics. Nowadays American comics struggle to sell 40,000 copies per monthly issue, have high prices for little content(which is why pirating them has become so rampant), and are just now able to produce commercially viable comics that aren't superhero books. Imagine something like this happening to videogames and the picture is not very pretty. The funny thing is that the arguments of Fredric Wertham(whose hitpiece book Seduction of the Innocent is what contributed greatly to the moral panic preceding the CCA) resemble those of certain commentators on videogames, such as that they influence the attitudes of young people who play them and make them more violent. http://news.illinois.edu/news/13/0211comics_CarolTilley.html The above link goes over how he misused the data gathered to construct his arguments. It should look familiar as there is also no scientific evidence of videogames affecting behavior yet some still insist it does.

What you did today
Everyday is a new day, unless you have a time machine, then every day can be an old day. Or something. Sadly, I don't have one of those. I was tired, so I went out in the yard and did some early weeding. it's a fairly nice day, if you're physically doing something and not just sitting in the shade. But it didn't help my tired-ness, so I think now it's time for that old-fart nap.

What are you playing now?
Still 7 Days to Die. Some days I don't play at all, other days I start it up and can't stop for bloody hours. Waiting for the new Alpha version (maybe end of this month, maybe March), which looks to have some nice improvements, graphically and with stuff like weapon attachments (flashlights on weapons), new POI like random cave generation and zombies/enemies being able to chase you at least a little bit underground again if there's a hole (not sure how that works yet). It's finally an Early Access game where I actually kinda get excited for each major Alpha release. I really like these guys, despite their funny-silly name (The Fun Pimps). ...this could, essentially, be my new Dungeon Keeper. The game I return to again and again for years, even when I take long breaks.
