How would you have dealt with the end?
phiont replied to ShadowPaladin V1.0's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I'd like to present you with your new car. I hope you'll appreciate that we've included a few cans of paint from which you should be able to mix and create your favourite colour. Of course, your new car will be much easier to paint since you don't have all those windows to worry about keeping clean. Besides, now you can decide exactly how much glass tinting to install. etc... etc... Get the picture? I agree, as long as the nickname is clearly printed on the box so that people who don't want to buy a "Modder's Paradise" can save their $50 for a completed game. -
How would you have dealt with the end?

<wishful thinking> I would have liked to see all my team building efforts have some consequences at the end, possibly as follows: Visas would be captured and held hostage by Kreia. To ensure Visas' safety, the Exile would agree to enter one of those force-draining cells like what Malak was using in the Star Forge. Afterall, Kreia only ever sought to exploit the Exile's unique ability with the force so that she could project her Malachor-fueled influence across the galaxy. And while she locks you away she boasts that this time the Exile won't be able to count on Revan to rescue him - revealing a little of how the game's story actually began. This also imposes the truth behind Kreia's and Visas' earlier warnings about the Exile's loyalty to his friends leading to his failure. ...or does it? Meanwhile, the droids would be engaged in their mini conflict to secure and prepare the mass shadow generator. Back near the Ebon Hawk, Bao-Dur and Mira regain consciousness to find everyone else gone. There's no signal from the droids so something must have gone wrong. On leaving the ship they soon encounter Atton, Handmaiden/Disciple and Mandalore. Kreia has successfully imposed the full corrupting force of Malachor on their minds and turned them against their companions. The halucination in the Korriban tomb could have served in part to foreshadow this final conflict. When Bao-Dur and Mira finally manage to incapacitate these four an enraged Hanharr would suddenly appear to spring a surprise attack on Mira and leave her unconscious. Hanharr would give Bao-Dur the opportunity to escape because he's only really after Mira. Again, Bao-Dur would be faced with the agony of sacrificing the life of another at Malachor for an expedient victory. Bao-Dur could leave Mira to die; stay and kill Hanharr; or possibly convince Hanharr not to be Kreia's slave. Of course, his decision also determines whether he will ultimately rescue the Exile alone or with Mira's help. This final scenario would have also illuminated why Kreia feared Mira's incorruptable mind and Bao-Dur whose mind she could never read. It would also revisit the whole betrayal issues that Atton and Handmaiden spent much of the story struggling with. Perhaps after T3 has been saved from GOTO and Bao-Dur has continued on into the Trayus Core, T3 would return to the ship and provide first aid to Atton and Handmaiden, just as he did for the Exile in the prologue. Who could imagine Atton's life being saved by the little droid he spent the entire game tormenting? The existing storyline also sets up Mira and Bao-Dur to be heros in many ways and has them among the more difficult but gratifying characters to jedify. And finally, Mandalore would have an opportunity to realise that it actually may have been the immensely corrupting power of Malachor V that originally drove his people to lose themselves and go to war in the first place. (The story already mentions Revan blaming places as dark as Malachor for inciting the Mandalorian war.) Now Mandalore finally understands why Revan could not risk returning to Malachor with Canderous. In the end, the final showdown with Kreia could be relatively simple if the Exile had managedto jedify everyone or difficult if he spent the entire game training nobody. <wishful thinking> *sigh* -
A sequel rarely out-shines the original. Games like System Shock II and Max Payne II are exceptions. If Obsidian ever unlocks all the unused content then KotOR II could also be one of those exceptions. Even though KotOR I was a masterpiece.

Yup. It refers to when Jedi fall in love and try to keep the relationship a secret. Male Exile uses the expression when things heat up with Handmaiden.

Yeah, I mostly agree. Except once in a while you find someone selling something guaranteed to make life much easier - like the Bothan glove (+6 DEM) I've just purchased from Geeda's competitor on Nar Shadda for around 4500 credits (traded in 2 Verp armours and a force pike). By the way, in KotOR I the trader who always paid the most for my excess inventory was the inventor on the Yavin IV station (PC version only). I've tried to figure out who offers top prices in TSL and, so far, it seems to be Geeda and rival on Nar. They seem to pay about 25% more than the traders on other worlds. Has anyone else looked into this and perhaps found a better deal?

I've just bought the Zeison Sha Initiate armour for around 350 credits from Adum Lurp in Khoonda on Dantooine. It's damned ugly and I'll probably never use it, but am I really going to miss those 350 credits?

That's right. And her first name was Forna. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What's the "K" for? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> A cheap laugh: "

how do i beat the hand maidens?
phiont replied to Revan_2005's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
In addition to what Darth Frog and others have already mentioned, I also recommend starting the match by running around the threesome to one of the far corners. Most of the time this causes the 2 sisters behind you to step off the mat trying to keep up with you. And, have you noticed how often they say "this will teach you" ? Each time you hear that, one of them has scored a critical hit, which means triple damage considering it's usually delivered out of a Master Power Strike. So you might also try equipping a Retinal Combat Implant or similar anti-CritHit item. Finally, I suppose I can understand the folks who don't think this struggle is worth the XP, however I've never run out of med packs, stims or Mandalorian melee shields in this game and there are tons of other optional tasks that can also be replaced by grinding H'ssiss on Korriban if you really want to take that approach. Whippin' the snot out of the Echani cheerleader squad was simply not to be missed. :D "If you seek to raise anger in me, you will fail, exile. I tolerate your presence only upon orders of the mistress - she did not order me to endure your questions. One cannot take back an action, and often apologizing for it only compounds the insult. Simply drop the matter and be silent." -
That's right. And her first name was Forna.

Heh thanks. I was looking for something a bit linked to my nickname and stumbled upon the pic of Sean Young; at least a homonym of Shan.

Let's not forget that you are comparing a fictional setting where people have been zipping around their galaxy at faster-than-light speed for 21,000 years to our relatively primitive real world where we only actually started using soap in the last century. The story's portrayal of gender roles certainly doesn't come close to the top of my list of ways in which the Star Wars universe is unrealistically different from our own.
-
I once read that there are more male geniuses than female geniuses. However, the same study also determined that there are more male morons than female morons. I was really surprised to see that ~ 75% of players keep Revan and Exile the same gender. On first play I tried male/female and now it's female/male. Viva la difference!!

What was your final total experience at level 36 ? According to the step increases I saw you would need to end up with a total of 630,000 - 666,000 XP. I also played LS and sought every XP opportunity I could find, but only reached 410,000. The only quest I left unfinished was completing the Telo fuel deal. I even managed to get the XP for Grenn's fugitives quest by lying to him and saying I killed them. So I'd really like to know how you reasonably attained the additional 220,000 XP playing LS without cheats or exploits.

I sent Mira leading Visas and Atton into Nadd's tomb. Kreia, Handmaiden and I went to Iziz. All went well except when I got to the locked plasteel cylinder in the bedroom near to where you find Kavar. The container could not be bashed or blown and I think it had a Sec DC of 51. I had to use up my one and only Security Spike Tunneler to get at the light sabre and crystals inside. That's when I regretted not having Atton the locksmith along.

Contest: Match the Face to the Voice
phiont replied to phiont's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
That's weird. Linking to his imdb image came up blank before but now it works. Still, the board's software restricts you to 10 pics per post. <_< <_< So I had to cut Kreia and Bastila too. -

Not only has it dropped from 14th down to 29th at Amazon it's gone from 4 1/2 stars down to 3 in just two days. -

Cut Content (part 2) - Kath Hounds sold out

How do you figure it hurts Obsidian? Obsidian gets paid by Lucas Arts. The game doesn't have to sell a single copy for Obsidian to get paid. (Better to respond via PM or new thread, if you wish.) Kiwegapa, I really appreciate what you and your www-page are trying to do. It's a very important part of this whole campaign to restore content. However, we must accept that the primary goal of all publishers is maximising profit. There's nothing wrong with that. It just means that we must also communicate with them in that language. Otherwise, we may never receive anything more in return for our concerns than their sympathy. The Amazon sales ranking dropped further today and now stands at 24th. That's the sort of message that a publisher can not shrug off. They probably thought that printing KotOR II game software was as sure as printing money. And they may have been right... until now. Getting back on topic (hi Fionavar " ), I hope that raising awareness of the content restoration campaign will encourage everyone to keep digging for more cut content and posting about it in this and Aurora's thread. -
Aimo, your sketches are amazing. The one of Mira's jedification is my favourite.

Your level when finished the game
phiont replied to madwolfx's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Level 29 (barely) - playing first time LS. I always had Kreia along for the extra 7% XP she provides as a party member. I could never get the dialog option with Grenn to pass on Vogga's offer and complete the fuel quest. -
Finished Today; Great Game, but Ambivalent

1. GameBanshee has the best KotOR II walkthrough I've been able to find. Their KotOR I walkthrough is pretty good too. 2. For a good read into the cut content check out this thread and then maybe this thread too. 3. However you choose to replay, I recommend accumulating at least 14 - 16 attribute points for Intelligence. Higher INT opens up tons of additional dialog options and it also lets you build skills like Awareness, Comp and Rep more quickly which also open up additional dialogs. 4. Maybe try taking Bao-Dur with you for his tech support and conscience. HK-47 is also very funny to have along for his lack of conscience. :D -
Thanks Planeforger. Where are they hosted? (w00t)

Cool sketches, Eisu. Your dark Handmaiden reminds me of Pris (Daryl Hannah) from Blade Runner.
-
I haven't played it with Disciple in my party, but from reading the dialog.tlk file I have the impression that he would have been able to recognise Master Kae. It's interesting that he often finds himself pausing and unable to remember various details of the Jedi masters. I wonder if there's any indication of Kreia imposing a telepathic memory block on him as she's done with others like T3.

Cut Content (part 2) - Kath Hounds sold out

It's important to keep in mind that Obsidian doesn't get any money from the customer. Their deal is soley with the game's publisher, Lucas Arts. Therefore, there is little that Obsidian can do for the customer as long as Lucas Arts remains unwilling to pay for it. Obsidian's CEO, Feargus Urquhart, made this quite clear in his message. This is why I direct my lobbying efforts at Lucas Arts and elsewhere instead of here at Obsidian. I suspect that someone at Lucas Arts calculated that pre-Xmas sales were worth more than the reputation of the KotOR franchise. If nobody objects to such a comprimise in such a way that affects sales then that decision maker has been proven right and we can all expect similarly incomplete products in the future. So how can Lucas Arts be proven wrong? I'll mention one small example. In the past 24 hours, a bunch of us posted reviews at Amazon.com about the games incompleteness. Since then the game's sales ranking at Amazon.com has plunged from 14th to 21st. Now that's gotta hurt. Perhaps KotOR II's product manager at Lucas Arts was already one of the 32 that got fired a few weeks ago. We can only hope. But if our message continues to spread and sales continue to falter then more heads will surely roll. At the end of the day, all we can hope for is that Lucas Arts will grant the additional time/money that Feargus Urquhart's team needs to complete this episode in the KotOR saga. Fingers crossed. [Edit: I've just checked again and the Amazon sales ranking has dropped further to 23rd.]
