  1. If I was on this guy's jury there is no way in hell I'd convict. But the wa the SA works here is to go heavy on charges and try to bully people into a plea bargain. If his lawyer holds firm ther is a real good chance charges will be dropped before a trial.
  2. A compelling argument at trial but that won't keep you from being charged.
  3. Both the thief and car owner are black. I head the story on the news but I believe the driver's fingerprints are on the bag. However as I think about it the search was related to the car theft so there is no probable cause to search the car other than it being stolen. Meaning n probable cause insofar as the owner is concerned. However, TN has a "find law" meaning any illegal item found during a legal search is admissible against any potential defendant connected to the item. It is a horrifyingly broad law that is exactly the kind of blanket power governments love to give themselves.
  4. This is TN, where porn causes school shooting and one sniff of marijuana will turn a kid into a liquor store robbing crack cocaine addict. And Nathan Bedford Forest was a patriot.
  5. So get this. This is making news here in Memphis. A guy gets his car stolen and reports it. The police recover the car and the thief. well they search the car and and found a half a gram of marijuana that they decide belong to the owner of the car. It probably did. So no the car owner has been arrested and is actually facing more time than the guy who stole the car. Government at work. All those goddamed democrats in Memphis clamoring for more government here is some more government for you.
  6. Matches begin tomorrow (from where I am at least). Who do you like? With the US being eliminated (again) I'm pulling for Iceland because, well, why not. Iceland is a cool place (no pun). The US, Canada, & Mexico will hots in 2026. Does that mean all three get an automatic berth. Ha, what am I saying. Canada & Mexico would be in anyway. It will be nice to see the US get eliminated in pool play rather than the year before like usual. So who will it be?

  8. It still won't read!!!
  9. I've read through part of this and still can't figure out if it's a hoax or not. It's hardly unheard to to write a completely bogus study that "sounds right" and appeals to certain biases just to see if it could get published. It is the exact thing you'd expect, pseudo-intellectual junk science that passes for legitimate studies. It's long but the gist of it is a study of the "Rape culture" and "homosexual" activities of dogs in dog parks and human reactions to them. https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/0966369X.2018.1475346?journalCode=cgpc20& The thing that makes me thing this is a hoax is it essentially assigns human motivations and desires to explain the activity of dogs. Anyone who has spent more than 5 minutes in the company of a dog knows that does not work. Hey, the are sweet, lovable, smart (in their way) but they are not humans. They can't learn to think like humans. But humans CAN learn to understand them. Of course the whole thing is not really about the dogs as it is about the human reaction to them. Which presumes dog owners don't really understand their furry friends. And for the most part I don't think that's true at all.
  10. Today's headline from the best (and mos reliable) news source: "World Leaders Hope Singapore Summit Will Lead To North Korea Becoming Normal Impoverished Country They Don’t Have To Think About" https://politics.theonion.com/world-leaders-hope-singapore-summit-will-lead-to-north-1826739714
  11. MoMM3 was the pinnacle of that series. It was all downhill after that.
  12. In no particular order: The Baldur's Gate series (counting it all as one thing) Fallout New Vegas Pillars of Eternity If it were four I'd add Planescape Torment to this list.
  13. They do require a license. The question is should they? If you make a thing more expensive you will have less of it. If you want more commerce then making commerce harder to do is not the way to go about it. But it isn't about that. It's just about extorting a little money.
  14. No but is the service comes with a condition like "Children must we wearing clothes" or "children must be reasonably protect from contracting or spreading communicable diseases" and you still want to use that service well then you need to do what you need to do.
  15. Yes. That is one thing. Why do I need a license to sell the exact, EXACT same vegetables the farmer's market does. Come to that why does HE need one? Why do the kids need a $129 license to sell lemonade for $ 0.75 a cup? Why does the guy outside the ballpark need one to sell cans of soda for $1? Why do I need a permit to replace a fence that ALREADY EXISTS on the property I supposedly own? Some things I can see. I understand why you need a permit to drill a well. There are good reasons for that. I understand my you need a permit to build a house, change the elevation of your property, etc. These things have effects that go beyond the borders of your property, But it has gone well beyond that. Now you need their permission to do every goddamned thing including landscaping in a lot of places. And that permission must be paid for. Which is of course the whole point. You might even call it a bribe. Or "tribute" to the "king." It amounts to the same thing. It's taking money to keep the police you showing up and shutting you down. The mafia does that kind of thing too. It's called protection. From them. And people think it's all done to keep them safe. Safe from what? Have you ever bought a sandwich from the roach coach? Or an ice cream cones from the ice cream truck? Did you die? Of course not. Do you expect that same quality from them as from Subway or DQ? Of course not.
  16. Well they better get them vaccinated then. But homeschooling is a thing here... for now.
  17. My point being it should be OK to have more stringent requirements on larger professional business like retail grocery stores and restaurants at the same time as not making the poor guy selling cans sodas outside the ball park get the exact same kind of license. It's OK to not seize Tino's Pizza food truck and throw that poor guy in prison for a year because he can't pay the same fees as Pizza Hut has to. And I would hope people are smart enough to understand that if you buy a pizza from Pizza hut you are far less likely to get sick than if you et one from Tino BECAUSE of that. Caveat Emptor. I would HOPE people would understand that. Of course reading some of the posts on this thread gives me pause in that hope. Like I said it does not have to be all of one thing or another. You can have safe restaurants AND kids lemonade stands. Grocery stores AND community fresh markets. Well, actually no you can't any more. Because Big Brother wants his tribute and he never, ever gives something back once he's taken it away from us. The fact that people cheer him for doing it sickens me.
  18. I'm not an ant-vacc guy. But I AM anti-compulsion. You don't want to get you kids vaccinated don't expect to get them in public school, or other services if you don't. You want to go live like Grizzly Adams on a mountain top I'll let you slide on the vaccines. But if you change your mind, roll 'em up buddy. It does not have to be all of one thing or the other you know? But it passed the line from protection of the public to unreasonable, heavy handed burden somewhere along the way. I grow vegetables. I take what I can't eat and sell it to the farmer's market in Covington. At pennies on the dollar of it's value since technically I'm wholesale and they are retail. They take what they buy from me and sell it to the public. It does not get "inspected" or anything. They dump them from hampers to big wooden display bins. I know because I helped him do it. But if I decided to sell my vegetables from my home, it's illegal. This isn't a tax issue. Food is not taxed in TN. It's because he got on his knees and begged the Crown for permission to sell and paid his "tribute" in a license fee. The government, any government loves only one thing. And it is NOT it's citizens. It loves money. It exists for the sole purpose of self perpetuation. Not service. Unless you count self-service. And they have done a great job of convincing everyone we need them to save us from our poor stupid helpless selves. Whoever will stop me from buying rotten meat from the weird guy in a van on the side of the road if not the government? Or save us from those dangerous children and their lemonade stands.
  19. If the rain falls and irrigates my garden that is legal. If i collect that water in 50ga drums and use it to irrigate that same garden when it's not raining it is illegal. Please explain that one to me. This nanny state BS is long out of control. BTW in case you are wondering it's because water is a utility controlled by the government. That means the government sells us water. And then makes it illegal to get water in ways they don't profit from. It's sort of like capitalism only you have absolutely no choice in the matter. Of course I have a well but I'm in the minority. .
  20. Have you ever noticed the third hand on a watch or clock is called the second hand?
  21. If you are dumb enough to buy meat from some guy sitting at a table on the side of the road you deserve what you're likely to get. But since when did the government become our goddamned mother telling us who to buy from? Or who can sell? I just made enough watermelon wine this weekend to fill 30 16oz bottles. If I sell one of those bottles I'm looking at a $10k fine and one year in federal prison. That is government run amok.
  22. Therein lies the problem. A free people living in a free country should not be required to get on bended knee and beg the State's permission to do business on a small scale.
  23. Deadfire and Stellaris Distant Stars DLC. Before that Out of the Park Baseball 19
  24. Did I understand correctly that Fallout 76 is online only? Multiplayer only? If so count me out. Not my kind of thing. If wanted to interact with real people I'd go to a bar!
  25. I see the cops in Denver shut down some kids who were selling lemonade in a park last week. Well done City of Denver. Imagine, the audacity of a couple of kids wanting to sell $.75 cups of lemonade to people without getting on their knees and humbly begging the Crown for permission coupled with an abject offer of paying license and permit fees. Personally I'm really surprised the cops didn't beat the holy hell out of those children, shoot them dead on the ground, drop a "hot" pistol and their corpse then give themselves raises. Oh... wait the kids were white. Had they been otherwise...
