Hit Hard, Run Fast, Turn Left. The 2022 Baseball Thread
Guard Dog replied to Guard Dog's topic in Way Off-Topic
I bought six Diamond Box tickets to see the Marlins play the Brewers in Milwaukee in September. Three for each game. It's likely the only two I'll get to see this year so I got us good seats. Neither G nor B has ever been to a MLB game. Time to rectify that. -
We use a software tool call TAP to plan site builds and radio deployment of private 5G networks. My job is to optimize performance on completed project sites. Mainly indoors or on premises outdoors. More and more I'm finding that TAP has been causing some... miscalculations in propagation distance. the thing about 5G is it's utilizing channels in the EHF band. So wavelength is really, really, short. Less than a centimeter. As wavelength is directly proportional to propagation distance where power is constant distance from radios to handsets is a big deal. Well, the finished projects have blind spots and when I load them in TAP there shouldn't be. So I stopped using TAP, broke out the ol' faithful TI-36X (29 years old it's still the best calculator I've ever used) and channeled my inner Friis and calculated free space path loss and coverage arc. TAP was wrong. Every single time wrong. I know a lot of my colleagues think I'm a grouchy old man who does not trust computers. Not that it isn't true. But the best computer is the one between your ears!

Said the man who got it right the first try! Getting it wrong a few times changes your perspective.

Polish up your Tokerovs and spit shine those boots Comrade, it's purging time! What's old is new in Russia. Time for the KGP to get the band back together and start shooting heads again!

No idea I'm afraid. The LAW & AT-4 were manually sighted. The TOW was guided. None are currently in use as far as I know. Out running a tank is not hard. Out running .30 caliber small arms fire or 105mm tank sabot is much, much harder. Edit: Of course if the tank is firing HE or WP don't even both running. You'll just die tired.

I guarantee you if I'd fired that rocket I'd be 1 km away as fast as I could run 1 km after firing that rocket!

Bennett advises Zelensky to surrender to Russia, Zelensky refuses Israel seems to think they are some kind of mediator. My reply would be "Did you surrender when you were invaded and surrounded by enemies? F--k you."

Keeping a pitch clock in the minors isn't a terrible idea. It did serve the purpose of getting young and upcoming pitchers into the habit of working quickly. Habits that would likely continue into their MLB careers. -
We're staying at a Marriott Fairfield on the south end of Manhattan. Don't know the area well but it's one block off FDR. I just looked up Russ & Daughters and it looks really good. The one in Brooklyn is right across the bridge from where we're staying. So definitely going to try. We're flying over on Sunday morning.

Will Transformers Take Over Artificial Intelligence? This was a pretty interesting read. But, God help me, when I read the title this was where my brain went:

I hate the pitch clock. Hate it. I am happy the stupid "man on second" and bush league 7 inning doubleheaders is going into the trash bin. Very happy to see draft pick compensation go away. The MLBPA never should have agreed with that in the 90's. Also happy to see teams incentivized not to tank but I don't think the draft lottery went far enough. I liked my idea better. I hate the DH too but at this point it's like the stage coach driver cursing the train. It was always going to happen eventually. -
That is a bit of a patchwork set of weapons. But credit to them for getting so much good out of what they have. One disadvantage though is a number of their infantry rifles use different ammunition. I saw at least one guy carrying a M-249 SAW which is an absolute man-killer of a weapon. But it uses 5.56mm while the rest uses 7.63mm. One guy had what looked like a Kreiss Vector 9mm full auto. The video guy didn't point it out but that is what it looked like. As for the anti-armor weapons you are outside of my wheelhouse on that one. The only one I am even vaguely familiar with is the AT-4 and it's long obsolete. And even then it was more used against buildings and fortification rather than vehicles. In my experience you didn't attack armor using infantry. A rifle company when confronted by tanks would set a hasty defense and call for air or artillery support. Or get the hell out of there. The folks fighting in Ukraine don't have that luxury.
