  1. no, that was a statement regarding either DA from bioware or Oblivion from bethesda, I can't recall which. neither of which involves the BG license. taks <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I thought this quote was about BG3, from John Hight in the PC Gamer article, I will have to take a look
  2. I guess it's pretty near if you have the lifespan of a sea turtle (my estimate is about 2 years out)
  3. LINKY Didn't EA's propaganda machine mention something about "seeing the fear in the orc's eye" or somesuch? Curiously enough as well: the "New Project" subsection on Bioware's page has lost the console-only and the information page it used to link to. WHAT COULD IT ALL MEAN? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> how about "Star Citidal", the trademark Bio recently registered
  4. If the ending is so bad that it ruins the first 20 enjoyable hours of the game, maybe I would be better off just quitting now.
  5. I am in the same boat - I have played about 20 hours and so far have had no mentionable bugs and the story and dialogue completely blow away KOTOR1, hands down. I played KOTOR1 again and finished it about a week before buying KOTOR2, and now in retrospect, KOTOR1's story feels more like some Saturday morning cartoon. I suspect the deeper dialogue and more required reading has turned off some of the younger twitchy customers, but I am really digging it at this point. I expect that in the next 10 hours of gameplay this wonderful deep story is going to fall apart and turn to crap, but it has been great up until this point. Even when it does go downhill, I will still have gotten many more quality hours out of this game already than most others I've played recently. I think now that I am expecting it, it won't be so disappointing. I think a bad ending might actually appeal to me anyway. I am not much for the standard scooby-doo endings (i.e. everyone starts laughing, then freezeframe and the credits roll) anyway. The lightside ending in KOTOR1 was so corny it just made me ill.
  6. Since when did Feargus buy the Jefferson assets? I think he just picked up some of the textures. I believe Jefferson is still safely stored away on a dark and dusty server somewhere - I think in the same place they stored the Ark in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'
  7. I know Feargus is probably busy installing the gold toilets in his private bathroom, but since things are a little slow around here, I wonder if he would be willing to do a rare post on these forums that could be fodder for a 10 pg thread, about anything like: *What do you think about ramping up to 3 development teams? *Any comments about when you might develop your own IP? *Have you already decided on the basic concept behind your first IP, whenever that might happen? *Are you still thinking about publishing your own game, or is that a long way off? *Have you landed your 3rd project yet? *Any progress update on developing your own game engine?
  8. I think they could manage 3 teams, and if they can consistantly land big projects, they should be able to cover those costs. Maybe just a couple people working full time on their own IP. A year ago on the RPG Codex forums, Feargus said something I found interesting ... " ...I've been thinking a lot about game that we are going to make and maybe some small games that we'll make and publish ourselves..." I think that is a cool idea. I would rather have a big game than a small game, but it would have a shorter development cycle, and it would surely be a unique Obsidian IP - so I hope they are still considering something like that. Maybe a smaller 3rd development team could work on something like that.
  9. No one at Obsidian is going to
  10. Not to say I told you so because God only knows where they got this info, but.. GameDreamZ link
  11. DS2 was a terrible, and was much less fun than watching a good screensaver. It sounds like they are trying to make some changes this time around, but I will read what people are saying before slapping down any $$. I am going with hope over experience on that one. DL sounds like it could be OK in the latest previews. Also, for BG3, I think John Hight talked about it being a prequel in that PC Gamer story a while back
  12. (most of these on the distant horizon, but ones I am looking forward to) KOTOR2 Dungeon Lords Dungeon Siege 2 Oblivion NWN2 Dragon Age Arx Fatalis 2 Gothic 3 BG3 FO3
  13. Although there are many games I would love to see Obsidian make, cold, logical reasoning leads me to believe the eventual outcome will end up being KOTOR3. I think hoping for anything else will lead to dissapointment. I think making their own IP would be a luxury for them that they can't afford at this point. I think Atari has already stretched their development funds thin on current projects so I would be very surprised if Obsidian picked up another D&D project now, unless they got BG3. In a couple years it may be another story
  14. Here are a couple more tidbits from Atari on BG3 that might ease your mind, unless it is just BS, but anyway
  15. As far as BG3 goes, this info is from October: "...BG3 is much more nebulous, we're not even in pre-production so it's harder to say where exactly we're going, but the ideas we've been talking about have been HUGE and very cool. Now we just need to turn the corner and get it rumbling, but it's going to take some time for sure..." ...so, there is a loooooong way to go with this one
  16. I was thinking the same thing, but may have jumped the gun as Interplay still seems to be intact, for now, and not being sold off by it
  17. Earlier this month in a PM from Grok, where I asked about some of the costs associated with Jefferson, Grok wrote this:
  18. 1) NWN 2) PoR2 3) Lionheart 4) Temple of Elemental Evil 5) Dungeon Siege 6) Black Hound and Van Buran - that is, not getting them
  19. Ha - just yesterday Grok (Brandon from Atari PR) told me in a PM that one of the reasons that Atari hadn't been that interested in resurrecting the Jefferson project (a major reason) was that Interplay still wanted BIG BUCKS for the engine, or in his words, it sure as hell wasn't a 'fire sale'. Well now maybe it is a fire sale. I think Feargus should offer them 20 bucks for the engine now that they are liquidating

    $$$$$

Does Obsidian make more money depending on how well KOTOR2 sells, or did they just get a set amount to develop the game regardless of sales?
  21. It all boils down to a lack of interest in this project from the Atari exec producer
  22. After reading a post on the Bioware boards yesterday where some Bio employee said they aren't working on BG3, I thought I would ask for an official "nope - it's not us" from Obsidian - after all you are not obligated by any publisher to say what you are NOT working on? right?
  23. Ok, it's pretty clear the new project is being worked on now: "FK: My name is Frank Kowalkowski, I am a senior programmer on Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. I will be leaving the team shortly to head up the programming effort on our second title which is another big project for Obsidian. I
  24. Woohoo! - now when will they get started working on BG3
  25. I have thought for a while that they had already lined up their second project after reading one of Feargus's posts at RPGCodex that he wrote way back in January, where he said, "So, the question is - in all of your minds does combat have to be TB to be game that you all like? I've been thinking a lot about game that we are going to make and maybe some small games that we'll make and publish ourselves and I'm trying to figure out what makes the most sense from a combat perspective..." , so ignoring the rest of that statement and just looking at the part where he talks about a game they will be making, I assumed they had lined up their second game. However, I suppose this could have just been him talking about a pet project that they all want to make and was thinking long term about a game they will make someday. But, it could also refer to their second project, which maybe they have already lined up a while back. It does seem to me that the recent hiring is to gear up for project 2 and not just to cushion KOTOR2, IMO
