My only fear is the loading times going from above to below deck. I hope they either get rid of them all together or drastically minimise it. Or failing that, allow us to access the resting option from above deck. Having flashbacks to PoE1 having to navigate the loading screens of caed nua, brighthollow lower floor, brighthollow upper floor all so that I could rest - yes I know they patched this later to enable resting from anywhere in caed nua which was great. I hope that this remains true for the ship, but more than that I'd love it to be a seemless transition from above to below decks, it's a little thing I know, but I'd feel much more inclined to check in on my crew below decks if there's no loading times.

Fig Funding Calculations
Koth replied to Koth's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No probs, gave me something to do during my lunch break at work. It's interesting though. Currently on that fig breakdown it shows $1.72M in pledges (sans fig funds / investors). Given that the base I calculated was 1.56m means that people have pledged an additional 160k in extras. This means that not too many have yet purchased the DLC meaning that there should be a fair bit more to roll in from those folks. Noice. -
Fig Funding Calculations

Yeah, just looked while you were replying to this, I needed to expand the purple bar to see the "fig funds" you were talking about, and yes it states that it includes investors. I had been informed by other posters that this did not include the investor amount. All good thx for clearing this up. -

Investments. To my knowledge Obsidian has said that this figure does not include investements Yes it does. *edit* Although the nomenclature used is fig funds. Is this in writing anywhere? I can't see a source on the site that says as such? -

Ok so I just got my daily fix of staring at the FIG pledge total, just shy of 3.5m wow! On the same page it lists all of the different tiers, how much they cost, and how many backers there are at each tier. So just out of curiosity I whipped up a quick speadsheet to see if the numbers add up. Here's what I got: Tier Cost Qty Total -------------------------------------------------------------- Obsidian Initiate $5.00 97 $485.00 Digital Download $29.00 13,167 $381,843.00 Premium Digital $45.00 8663 $389,835.00 Physical Box $59.00 555 $32,745.00 Ultimate Digital $65.00 948 $61,620.00 Complete Pillars Bundle $79.00 839 $66,281.00 Early Access + Credits $99.00 676 $66,924.00 Early Access + Credits Box $109.00 54 $5,886.00 Collector's Edition $149.00 1055 $157,195.00 Elite Collector's Edition + Sta $199.00 792 $157,608.00 Signed Elite Collector's Editio $249.00 525 $130,725.00 Name a Pet $500.00 36 $18,000.00 Create An Item $750.00 21 $15,750.00 Create An Item II $750.00 2 $1,500.00 Be An NPC $1,500.00 6 $9,000.00 Portrait In-Game IV $1,750.00 2 $3,500.00 Create a Super Pet $2,000.00 1 $2,000.00 Build a Pirate Party $5,000.00 1 $5,000.00 Top Backer $10,000.0 0 $0.00 Portait In-Game $1,250.00 5 $6,250.00 Portait In-Game II $1,750.00 5 $8,750.00 Portait In-Game III $1,750.00 5 $8,750.00 Create a Spell $3,000.00 3 $9,000.00 Create an Inn $5,000.00 3 $15,000.00 Own An Island $5,000.00 2 $10,000.00 Total 27,366 $1,563,647.00 If everyone (less initiates) bought $20 DLC $547,320.00 ------------- Grand Total $2,110,967.0 So, to summarize, we have got 1.56m from the game pledges alone, plus if *every single pledger* also purchases the $20 DLC (unlikely to get 100%) we also get an additional 547k to end up with a total of 2.1m... So does this mean that we have 1.4m of things like beta access, additional copies, digital maps etc? I highly doubt it, and if not, where is the extra money coming from to make up the current 3.5m figure as shown at the top of the page on FIG - Deadfire?

Yes, my vote went to Junk. I stayed overnight on Halong Bay, Vietnam. They are amazing ships. Great atmosphere.

Maybe there's a gang of crimson painted thieves in the game? They could call themselves the Rouge Rogues -
Gromnir I actually rather like Gromnir's posts. Even though I have no idea what he's saying 90% of the time due to the inconsistencies with his own contrived role playing dialect. I'm sure that he's a very intelligent person, and that the content of his posts are very deep and meaningful, but I have neither the time nor the inclination to de-crypt them. Good for a laugh though. Ha! Good Fun!... Just kidding Grom, we luv ya!

Personally I am also happy to go down to 5. More often than not in PoE, the 6th slot was just a filler position anyway. Really my average party often consisted of: - Main Tank - Off Tank - Crowd Control - Support Buffer / Healer - Damage Dealer - Filler - Reserved for whichever Companion quest I was trying to complete at the time And to be honest, If they scale the fights correctly, you shouldn't really need an offtank. This would allow for a core party of 4: tank, cc, support / heals, dps with your 5th as the rotating slot for whichever quest you want to complete. And with the addition of multi-classing you can theoretically fill multiple roles with the one character thus further reducing the need for party size bloat. Also, in PoE 1, I often found that in choke points like doorways if I had 3 melee characters, one of them was always in the back having to switch weapons to a bow or whatever as they couldn't fit through to engage the enemy. Less characters to control = less pathing issues / easier to micro party encounters.

Super Pets?
Koth replied to Koth's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I guess I was thinking more along the lines of a passive buff. i.e. Equip a Cat pet for a +1 bonus to stealth etc. Not so much something that would perform any functional combat role. Which I got rather irritated by, considering that's instantly the only pet worth having equipped. But I decided that you can take my love, you can take my land, you can take me where I cannot stand. I do not mind, however, for you can not take the Tiny White Wurm from me. Yes, this! This is exactly my point. Don't make *some* cosmetic pets and *some* pets that provide a bonus. Make all pets provide some kind of passive (preferably fairly trivial) buff. Heck, you could even assign the buffs to pet families and provide a choice of pets that all provide the same pet family buff. i.e. all Cats provide a +1 stealth buff, and have 10 different cats in the game. -
Personally I'd like to take this one step further and allow the ability to re-roll character attributes. To some, this might be considered a no-no, but to compensate you could even have some kind of penalty, i.e. unlock the ability to reroll, but penalise me 2 points or something for doing so. I'd gladly take the hit to re-roll some of the god awful stat distributions in PoE1.

I miss the freaks
Koth replied to Lord_Mord's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I can't believe no one has even mentioned Minsc in this discussion, or his miniature giant space hampster. I like wacky and zany, but my problem here is if we're talking about cliche's is that all the "freak" characters you seem to mention are evil or P.I.T.A. to have in the party as they conflict with other members / your own moral decisions. Be a freak sure, but freak doesn't always have to mean evil. -
Super Pets?
Koth replied to Koth's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yes, those were my assumptions as well. I guess I was really getting at the last question. We can assume that yes, some if not all pets can provide a passive bonus that players will have access to. But only the hardest core roleplayers will ever equip a purely cosmetic pet over one that provides some kind of buff. This to me, seems a waste of time and resources to create purely cosmetic pets that 99% of players will never use. Am hoping that this means that *all* pets will provide some kind of bonus even if somewhat trivial. -
Before I decide I'd really like to know if now that the party size has been limited to 5 down from 6, will this mean that we need an offtank? In PoE 1, I always used Eder main tank with Pallegina as an offtank and this worked very well. I wonder now if we won't need an off-tank as encounters will be designed around only having 5 party members. Not sure...

Super Pets?
Koth posted a topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
So I was just looking through the reward tiers on Fig and noticed the $2000 reward tier was titled "Create a Super Pet" with the following description: "Create a super-pet with the development team! You can choose from almost any creature in Pillars II and the team will make a pet version of it. Customize the texture and select a buff your super-pet can give you (some restrictions apply)..." This raises a whole slew of questions: - Does this mean that pets are not purely cosmetic anymore? - Does this mean that only the person that backs at this level gets the super pet? - Does it mean that pets that provide bonuses are in the game for everyone to use? - Will all pets provide some kind of buffs? If not, then why would anyone equip anything else? Thoughts? Apologies in advance if this topic has been discussed before, I did a quick forum search but couldn't find anything else on the topic. -
Slight derail: Oh Gromnir, is there any chance there's a translator online somewhere for your posts. I like you dude, I find your posts on topic and to the point and I love reading some of your insights into the gaming industry. But good lord, my eye's need a holiday after trying to decypher your accent / mannerisms / character speech... that is all... sorry, I had to vent. P.S. Please disregard this post, keep it up grom

I think we're getting into the realm of hair splitting when we're talking about the semantics of "all but said" and "he said"... whatever, we all know he didn't confirm it, or deny it, simple marketing / PR spin. Yup, prolly will be an expansion, no, probably not any time in the immediate future. But its all speculation one way or t'other, so why argue about it?

Character-less Voice Acting
Koth replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Wow really? I mean you're definitely entitled to your own opinion (of course). But I would say exactly the opposite. I love the VA in this game and my only complaint is that I'd like more of it. The only thing I find jarring is when there's a line of spoken VA, mixed with narration in the text, followed by more voice acting. Only way I can see around this would be to have a generic narrator speaking the non-speech lines of text, but this could get out of control fast. -
Yup, I always preferred when games chose to use a secondary stat to determine conversation options. Similar to how NWN used to have Persuasion as a skill. Could even lump these in with the current secondary stats (mechanics, athletics, stealth... etc). Although now as I type this I can see that this suggestion would make the dialog seem a little bland if everything was determined by the one stat. However, while I do like and respect what they've currently done in game, I don't like feeling like I'm missing out on dialog options because I've chosen resolve as a dump stat on my caster main for example. Anyway... just some random thoughts. As for the OP's suggestion. Please no. I love the hand-drawn art style of PoE. I mean how could you take one look at the water wheel in Dyrford Village and not fall in love! /gush

The supplies mechanic is bad
Koth replied to Arnegar's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
That's my point though, you were able to pick the lock... There are plenty of viable party compositions that do not include a class with mechanics which is why they put the key in the adjacent room in the first place. The problem arises in the fact that you're pretty much exhausted with just enough resources left to take on Maerwald only, so the fight with the xaurips is the straw that breaks the camels back. This has happened to me 3 times so far on PotD hence the request. -
The supplies mechanic is bad
Koth replied to Arnegar's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
OK yes, you're correct it is in adjacent room, however there is a fairly significant fight with xaurips in this room that depletes any resources I had wanted to reserve for the encounter with Maerwald. It also doesn't address the request to simply clear out the first half of this level to get the dagger without having to trek back to GV. If you think it's an unreasonable request to add a single camping supply anywhere between the start of Caed Nua and Maerwald's room then cool. But Sking said if we had any requests to make them, so I did
