  1. Of course it has a good score; it was the first in the series, with no established fandom and nothing to compare it to. Not to mention that EA had not yet acquired BioWare. Look at the scores for ME2 and ME3 and you'll see what I mean about haters. Metacritic public scores are as meaningless as reality television.
  2. Never mind 3D; I read that bit of "news" that they were going to patch in turn-based combat over the summer and nearly had an orgasm before I realized what date it was. That was a cruel, cruel thing to do.
  3. I wish you and your 32-bit system welcome to Pillars of Eternity. Get used to saving A LOT before leaving any map. The good news is, it's not broken. Keep trying, and maybe leave for another location (such as back to Cilan whatsitsname, before travelling to Gilded Vale again. Don't worry, you'll get there. But seriously, save before exiting any map at all. Always.
  4. How do you explain the sharp difference between the users score and the official critics'one of DA:I? Personally i learned to don't trust official critics since when RTW 2 was relesead in a very obscene condition (more than one year of patching to fix it), despite the high scoring received by the most popular game critics. Anyway for me 8/10 reflects the current bugged/beta-like status of the game that partly ruins the combat experience, so i think is roughly right. I explain that by realizing that: 1) There's an enormous number of people out there who will rate any EA-published game a 0/10 just because they hate EA. Don't get me wrong, EA is a poster-child for bad corporate behavious, but that has nothing to do with the quality of games published under their logo. 2) Very many people have very strong feelings about BioWare in general and the Dragon Age franchise in particular. If these people see anything that deviates the slightest little bit from the game they imagined in their heads prior to release compared to the game they actually got, they'll spew their bile on Metacritic and post a 0/10.
  5. Yup, but at least the spell is working as intended. Be grateful for the little things.
  6. Priority 1: Bugfixes. Priority 2: Optimizing. . . . . . . Priority <<<<<<< 2: New features.
  7. As long as it includes the title "Electric Boogaloo", I'm on board with anything.
  8. Someone actually feels that the user review on Metacritic are worthwhile? Are you serious? 40% of the user review are made by people who rate it 10/10 to "counter the negative reviews" or just because they looooove the game and deliberately ignore its flaws (and as much as I love PoE, it's not worth a 10 at this stage). Another 35% are nutjobs and trolls who rate games a 0/10 because they don't like the publisher, don't like the genre or have issues with how their mothers potty-trained them. And there in the middle, being completely drowned out by the noise from both camps, are a few people who give a reasoned, thorough review of a game's pros and cons. Not at all worth wading through the sludge, if you ask me.
  9. Yeah, I got that on Eder, and while it was quite useful for the first couple of levels it then became redundant pretty quickly. But that's what first playthroughs are for, to figure out stuff like this so you can optimize better on your next run.
  10. Yes, I have this problem quite frequently (also on a 32-bit system). It happens most often when transitioning to "content-intensive" areas like Gilded Vale, Caed Nua and the Copperbridge (?) district in Defiance Bay. Also, the more transitions I've had the greater the chance of a crash becomes. After 4-5 transitions it's pretty much inevitable. I've tried reducing the resolutions, tuning down graphics to the minimum, closing background applications and so on, but nothing helps. However, it's not completely stuck. I can usually get to where I want to go so long as I have the patience to try over and over and over again. It's also worth trying to travel to another, smaller area first (if possible) and then going from there to your original destination. It's incredibly annoying, especially since the system requirements were well within my computer's capabilities until launch day when they suddenly changed, but until I get a new computer over the summer sometime there's not much to do except hope that a future patch at least alleviates the problem.
  11. Not sure if this is a bug. I know party formation in all the old IE games worked like this, so I assumed it was supposed to be like this in PoE as well.
  12. I believe that 1st-level spells becomes "per encounter" at level 9, and 2nd-level spells at level 11. My wizard is only level 8 right now, so I haven't seen this myself, but it's how it's supposed to work.
  13. Just keep going. It took a really long time for me to get my reputation in Defiance Bay up, but I got there in the end. It takes a lot more than Gilded Vale, so this might not be a bug.
  14. Actually I tested this just a few hours ago, with 1.03 and the hotfix installed. While there was no damage animation, no floating damage numbers and nothing listed in the combat log both targets' health bars dropped one and two points respectively. So the spell clearly does something, it just doesn't say what.
  15. I would think that the best option would be to simply have the read-only text and the voiceover text on separate "pages", so you can click Continue once you've read the description and you're ready to hear the voiceover.
  16. I just played this and took the option to leave the merchant to his fate, not fighting for or against either side. The quest concluded normally and I could recruit the paladin. I know this doesn't fix anyone's problems, but at least it'll allow you to get the NPC.
  17. Yeah, I have the exact same issue. Trying to get to Gilded Vale from Valewood crashes the game every time. The loading screen comes up, runs for a while, then it's straight to desktop. Windows Vista 32-bit Q6600 2.4 gig quad core Nvidia GTX 560 Ti 4 gig ram
  18. I've been looking forward to this game for literally years, and now they went and changed the system requirements? There's no way I can run this if the SR on Steam are accurate.
