  1. I usually enjoy the romance elements of RPGs, whether fully-developed or only hinted at. It's a logical consequence of games that, at their best, have very good characterisation and are long enough (at 50+ hours) for relationships to develop.
  2. I expect that when the Longest Journey saga is complete it will be in my top five. I'm still waiting on the promised episodic comment, and Ragnar Tornquist isn't talking...
  3. Sam & Max Season 2 Episode 2: Moai Better Blues.
  4. Edit: I read it wrong first time, thought you wanted it more glittery... But still, magic is shiny and sparkly. I'm sure that's in the rules somewhere...
  5. Oops. Sorry. :blush10: (I merged them now.)
  6. http://books.guardian.co.uk/news/articles/0,,2226306,00.html  I love this guy - his approach to the satirical opportunities of fantasy writing is central to how I've seen, and loved, the genre for so many years. He reckons he still has a few books in him. I wish him continued good health for as long as possible.
  7. That deserves its own thread.
  8. I remember that. I wasn't allowed to watch it when it first came out (too young ), but I saw it years later. Very troubling and very well-written.
  9. Resolving a storyline? That would be a series first. No matter. I'm glad it's getting done, and supposedly he has a lot of Jordan's notes, plus his wife to help him. So long as the resolution is the one that was originally planned, I'll be happy.
  10. Ooh, Kotor fanart. That made me think of Aimo: She has a very good Mass Effect comic up on the first page.
  11. That's kind of a nightmare of mine. I used to back-up everything onto two separate CDs every evening, plus upload it to Hotmail. I hope you manage to get it back.
  12. I've never owned a Mac, but I can see how it would appeal to someone who mostly games on consoles. If I only needed a machine for internet/work, the Mac has a good reputation for reliability (or at least, it did about a decade ago which was the last time I seriously looked at buying one). And yes, please keep the discussion civil. It's a perfectly valid topic.
  13. It's not really a cover-up. It was deleted because posting magazine scans is against the forum guidelines:
  14. Precisely. It's not a glitch, it's a plot point.
  15. It's fixed! I left Mulsantir Gate with full craving and spirit energy 100 and arrived at the shore with spirit energy 82 Yay!!! (I wonder why they didn't mention it in the release notes - there were plenty of other spoilers there.) Still, no matter, and no complaints from me.
  16. I think it's a factor, one of many. The US is by no means novel or unique in its 'cult of celebrity', but it and some other Western countries have taken it to extremes and many other countries are headed in that direction. I don't think the negative consequences of that have been fully explored, perhaps because it's not in the media's interest to do so.
  17. Then we must also blame the society that values fame and celebrity too highly.
  18. Neither this patch release nor the proposed details for the next patch mention the problem of characters with high craving being unable to go to the Sunken City. Is this fixed, and they just haven't remembered to put it in the release notes? Or is it not a high priority? It's a shame, because I can't progress in the game until it's fixed...
  19. The Quest for Glory series, I think. Don't make me choose one game over the others.
  20. Perish the thought. I found the idea of the Time of Troubles - and the fact that people were still living with the consequences - very interesting and an engaging part of Baldur's Gate. Was there a similar backstory created around the change from second to third editions? I can't say it came across strongly during Neverwinter Nights the way the Time of Troubles did through Baldur's Gate... As for a game, sure, why not? And I like the Forgotten Realms setting, especially now that they seem to be getting away from the western part. There are whole areas of the map that I know nothing about, and plenty of mileage left in the setting, I reckon.
  21. Hmmm. Sounds interesting... *goes to investigate* MMORPG!!! Run!!!
  22. I play RPGs because they have often have good stories and dialogue. I play point and click adventures for the same reason.
  23. I've downloaded it, but am saving it for Christmas. Reviews seem to range from good to excellent, so I'm really looking forward to it. In related news, as you noted the sometimes unnatural dialogue, someone over at RPG codex has unlocked the original English dialogue in the game (apparently, somewhere between translation from Polish and voice-recording, a lot was cut, resulting in the unnatural bits you've found). Anyway, it appears from the discussion in the thread that it isn't really workable quite yet, because the game scripts are now out of sync with the dialogue, but they're optimistic that a modding effort will be able to fix this and make it work in the future).
  24. Tell me about it. Yes, that's been by far the hardest part for me. Fun too, though. Neverwinter Nights also has the advantage of a very large modding community on hand to answer your questions and generally help you along - I'm sure it's not alone in this, of course...
