  1. Just finished my second playthrough of Drakensang. I'm amazed at the stability of the thing - 2 complete playthroughs without a single crash to desktop or notable bug. Think I'll go back to the Witcher now that I have a shiny new graphics card.
  2. I was looking forward to CitiesXL, but have heard the public transport options are limited. Transport networks were always my favourite aspect of Simcity.
  3. I listened to the latest episode of That Mitchell and Webb Sound on the iPlayer. I don't think this series has been as good as previous ones.
  4. As this is related to a (unconfirmed) delay, I've merged it into this thread so that everything's in one place.
  5. Aram, ladies and gentlemen. He's here all week.
  6. I can't find it on Direct2Drive.co.uk. I guess it's North America only?
  7. There's a free trial for Dungeons and Dragons Online - I'm downloading it now and will give it a try. I'm hoping the familiarity of D&D will offset the scary strangeness of MMORPGland.
  8. There's an interesting article at Gamespot with a Bioware dev, Damion Schubert, about people who play MMORPGs alone without interacting much with other players. This never really occurred to me - I always assumed there was little or nothing in a MMORPG if you didn't want to play cooperatively with others, but apparently lots of people are doing it. Mr. Schubert identifies different kinds of lone-players ("New kid on the Block", "Sociopath" and reasons why people game alone in MMORPGs. With regards to The Old Republic, if I were ever to play it, I would fall into the "I'd really rather be playing Kotor3, but as you haven't developed that, I'm giving this a go instead" group.
  9. I mostly looked at the pictures. Yeah, I'll bet. I got a shiver of horror down my spine reading that. The moral of the story, for me at least, is the importance of supporting your liberal democratic system of government, even if you despise the people who currently hold office.
  10. British politics is nothing like Australian politics in this regard. If an MP called another MP a liar in the House of Commons, he would be ejected and suspended immediately. MPs are forced to call each other 'honourable member', even if they don't think the person they're talking about is honourable in the least. Incidentally, I entirely approve of this tradition, as it reminds MPs that they are supposed to be honourable in everything they do, even if they often fail to live up to that standard. I would hate to see politicians effing and blinding in Parliament - it would be disgraceful and disrespectful of the institution to which they are elected. Outside the chamber of the House is another matter, perhaps, but still, how can you tell your kids off for using foul language when the Prime Minister or President has just been on TV using the same kind of language?
  11. I'm very interested to see how Saudi Arabia is portrayed - not sure if it will just be some isolated location or whether there will be an attempt to capture one of the major cities as well.
  12. Just finished Drakensang, which was very fun and interesting, though despite virumor's best efforts I never really did understand the maths of the combat. Will replay now with a different character, perhaps a spellcasting elf? It's a shame so many of the companion NPCs don't become available until late in the game - odd design choice, I think.
  13. I wonder if this is going anywhere.
  14. Thanks for trying, but I didn't follow that at all. I suppose if I read the manual carefully I would understand - I usually do read game manuals (me and almost no-one else) but this one just had too much new and unfamiliar information to absorbe. Plus, I'm not sure my brain has sufficient capacity to hold these rules and THAC0 simultaneously, and I still need THAC0 for replaying Baldur's Gate. Gladys is fun. The Amazon woman, not so much. Is she supposed to have a quest of her own? So far she's inert.
  15. It's very difficult to hold this kind of discussion about piracy on a developer's forum. Anything that seems to justify or encourage piracy has to be deleted. I strongly those involved to take this debate elsewhere. I'm really enjoying Drakensang. It's a beautiful game, and challenging at times. I really hope my character isn't messed up - still not entirely sure how the 'Talent Tests' work, other than 'High Numbers Good'. It could do with more frequent interjections from party members, but they do happen from time to time.
  16. I suppose I retreat south, as I was ordered.
  17. Thanks, Guard Dog. Of all the arguments I've read against Obama's plans, this is the first that makes any sense to me: Don't have federal/national health care because a lower tier of government can do it better. I also think it would make more sense to let these states go ahead, so that Americans could see the reality of universal health care up close, instead of the nightmare visions of foreign 'death panels' they seem to get now, and also so that different approaches could be tried.
  18. There should be at least one occasion in the game where someone calls him 'Thornton' and he gets annoyed about it. Maybe in the sequel...
  19. I don't think the fact that it's been discussed on a few internet sites is really enough. The Titan Quest people realised, belatedly, that they should have had some kind of in-game pop-up message telling the user that this is a DRM fail, not a glitch. I'm very surprised that Eidos hasn't chosen to do this.
  20. So would an individual state government, if it wished to, be able to organise universal health care for its own citizens? Have any done so? Would this be more acceptable to the public?
  21. Worrying when that happens, but it passes. Plus it's an opportunity to search for games you've overlooked.
  22. Ludwig II of Bavaria from Gabriel Knight 2, and Gwydion from King's Quest III.
  23. This thread has wandered off topic, so I'm going to close it. Please make new threads to continue the discussion if you like.
  24. I watched the debate on this in the Scottish Parliament, and I really felt that the '3 months' had been conjured out of the air to fit the legal requirements. We do need to change the law on this, whether you agree with early release or not.
