  1. I'm closing this for being off-topic.
  2. Like so many things, the original radio series was well-written and very funny, because they were trying to get it onto television - once they managed that, they got lazy and sloppy and the quality nosedived.
  3. Whether the games are similar to or different from Baldur's Gate is not the point; the point is that someone has decided that saying your game is a spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate is a Good Thing. The name and the brand have marketing value, and why not, given all the 'top 100 games ever' lists over the years that have featured one or both of the Baldur's Gate games? I think Baldur's Gate 3 would get a similar or greater marketing boost from the established reputation of the brand. Isn't this one of the reasons Bethesda bought Fallout?
  4. Yup, we saw it already. Thanks anyway though.
  5. So don't discuss it on the forums. Email them or, better yet, send a snail-mail letter of complaint. They'll soon find out there's nowhere they can hide.
  6. Yup. And we could all migrate en-masse to the Mac. It would be like a nest-relocation in creature Spore.
  7. It would irk me if there were repeated references to the IRA's noble struggle, yes. I guess I might try to watch this, then.
  8. They're about to show this for the first time (I think) in the UK, and I'm thinking of watching it, but having checked the wikipedia pages for it, I'm concerned the show might suffer from 'Cuddly-IRA-terrorist' syndrome. How is that character handled?
  9. 'Tis God's work you are doing.
  10. Lovers of text can play the Hitchhikers's Guide to the Galaxy text adventure online, now with added pictures. I've always thought 'Show, don't tell' overrated. I wish I could remember the names of those involved, but I watched an interview with a Hollywood director in which he told the story of how, after major rewrites to his script, the lead actress came over to him and protested. He explained that by cutting out most of the dialogue, in accordance with 'Show, don't tell', the audience could see and understand the main character's situation more clearly, to which the actress replied, "But there's nothing interesting about the main character's situation. What's interesting is what she has to say about it." Words are good, and so is text.
  11. Exactly. Besides, Morrowind had some decent writing in the backstory but that didn't make the main plotline stellar.
  12. Storms of Zehir is supposed to be the 'spiritual successor' to Baldur's Gate (as is Dragon Age, for that matter). If those games sell well, why not go the whole hog and make a game called BG3?
  13. Yes.
  14. New Hitchhiker's author announced. Has anyone read the Artemis Fowl novels? Is he up to Douglas Adams' standard?
  15. You are, of course, entitled to your opinion, wrong though it undoubtedly is. However, for the sake of balance, I feel the need to say: Yay Team Gizka! Yay Team Gizka! Yay Team Gizka! Yaaayyyyyy! :wowey:
  16. Yes, I just did.
  17. Ikea.
  18. I'm beginning to find Putin's need to be seen as a tough guy just a little sad, and a little worrying.
  19. At the third time of trying, I have finally managed to get my head around the space stage. It's even moderately fun, in that so far I've managed to avoid major wars with other empires and am spending my time abducting animals for colonisation. I do with they would turn down the frequency of the 'come home and deal with threat X' events.
  20. It looks like Obsidian/SEGA have decided to employ professional voice actors rather than 'big name' film/TV actors. This is all to the good.
  21. Refusing to buy a game and then writing to the publisher and press explaining why has more effect than simply not buying the game. Amnesty International is founded on the principle that polite letters of complaint have power beyond what you might expect.
  22. William Hague wasn't evil. I'm disturbed by your anti-Americanism, Walsh. Not everything in a baseball cap is devilspawn.
  23. Blair did almost nothing after his first term (1997-2001). Then he sided with George W. and invaded Iraq, and whatever the merits of that, once it was discovered that there were no WMDs he had no 'political capital' to do anything except dodge accusations of lying. He only won the next election (with 36% of the vote!!) because the leader of the Conservatives was evil.
  24. Two lame duck prime ministers in as many years. We are doing well. Though they say you get the leaders you deserve. At least he'll be gone quicker than Blair was. Blair was like some massive endgame boss with 5,000,000 HPs that just wouldn't go down, even though everything was in ruins around him.
  25. Drascula. Never heard of it before, but comedy + adventure game + free = what's not to like?
