  1. A sword and shield, oh and I have 104 deflection, by the end. my chanters doesn't die easily, and regen constantly, and even manages to keep the whole party alive (BARELY) alone. On hard mode, I actually have to use the other characters. On Normal, I can solo the Beta, if I tried, relatively sure, though very very difficult, and requires alot of kiting until my defenses get higher from equipment. The issue is, they don't do much damage if you build them around defense, so the summons are what fights for you. a ghost, three skeletons or 3 drakes... the drakes are great cause they're ranged. The skeletons go down really quick, but if you want to ambush someone and get flanking bonus's this helps. If you need another tank - take the ghost. here my character.. though really nothing special... I didn't try to hard, and I spread everything out over the party, enchanting wise. I think if you want to use a hand-axe instead of a sword, you will get an additional 5 deflection too.
  2. Is the experience cap only 28,000 i.e just hitting level 8 ? if this has been written else where, I did not find it when I did a search. Thought the cap as 12, that i have read, but in the beta (If I can say this here) it was/is currently 8 levels.
  3. Mine has 89 deflection and the lowest defense is like 60's+ Just not much hp on these guys. I use it as a tank, but have to keep him alive with healing.
  4. I like being able to know how far it reaches..too bad they didn't give it markers.
  5. I only use the summons, my concept was a chanter as a warlock/witch, that summons monsters 6m is alot, but not too large. Does it hit near 10m at 19-20 int ?
  6. yeah, I just never get off sneak attacks or flank the enemies much. they usually out number my front -liners. I always have just a single guy in front, and ranged guys making up the rest of the group. I really hate controlling a whole party, and prefer to just use a single character if I could. Anyways, you can imagine how easy it is for my character to just die or be overwhelmed by the enemy.
  7. I think this is relatively everyone, but I did use my arrows and bolts on special occasions. Those arrows of piercing for instance are insanely powerful. same as those fire arrows you get from kobolds, they're really good with an extra d6 damage, but you get very few in the game, enough to not use it all the time. (unlike these kobolds of course, who have no idea the riches they are throwing away..) guess this would be a good reason anyways, why ammunitions are gone. What if ammunition was just not depletable. Like you have quivers of <insert type here> and just make the effects less. Then we can use blunt arrows (if such a thing exists really..) or hollow pointed tips with poisons or serrated edges... anyways off topic. Something mechanically with looting does not seem right in PoE. Not to me. just doesn't feel as special or interesting when I'm looting. This detracts from how excited I feel about the game. If I load a BG game up or IWD, looting feels more exciting. Looting in PoE is abit more bland for me, relatively speaking, I feel, as though its generic, more random, less important, less meaningful. Maybe its more realistic, but it is certainly less fun then it used to be. I also feel it affects so many other things in a row too. In the end, it makes me feel different about my characters too. Loot seems so much more generic, that I no longer really fight over who gets what gear (though this is , again only in the beta, so who knows in the release what it will feel like) maybe, if in the end I changed very little with my strong attitude towards preserving the older feeling, if I helped keep it important and fun maybe I will have succeeded. This is after all, in my opinion, one of the core mechanics that separates it from any other game design, not just being isometric, and an rpg focused more on story then hack n slash (even IWDI/II, still had plot, regardless of HoF mode). Three things I would iterate on keeping very old fashion and old school are: Theiving (at least create a mechanic for those skills), Looting/equipment exploration/finding-stuff/economy and how it all fits together. (remember hunting down special equipment in the old games. Its not going to be the case in PoE if I guessed) and then, being able to wear cloaks, and amulets together.
  8. In the EE version sod the BG series they made unlocking and recovering/tripping traps xp much much less...like 15 xp or something. It was originally like 100-1500xp depending on the traps and locks... The game was much better balanced when unlocking chests and drawers gave virtually no xp. the game became more fun. made it really tedious to unlock things, but if your a burgler, its what you do ! Wish we could isolate who was sneaking around. I know it changes very little, but it just seems silly when everyone goes into crouching, because one sneak thief is 200m away and started to crouch.... immersion breaking in a way even. Also, we should have thieving skills, and mechanics to make this a true successor. EVERYONE (relatively speaking) used thieving mechanics in those isometric games.
  9. Are you offering us mods already ?
  10. Someone should start a beer fund for Sensuki, lol.
  11. Lion vs wolf.... vs bear ? I bet if you spawned the beats and could make them attack eachother, the bear would tear a newone through the pack of wolves and lions combined, lol
  12. I will try and check then. I should see it in the combat roll right, if I hover over? (Deflection that is) Edit: guess what, now its working. I do not understand how or why. I did reload a few times since, and I did do a lot of other enchanting. But it clearly now affects my attributes. Edit again: It even works properly now when I cast the same enchantment from my earlier save. So, I do not know what caused it to not work. But, I did in fact triple check when I had the issue...
  13. Confirmed it is heavy on a graphics card. I went from 45 FPS to 22 FPS one I summoned them. I can not think of ANYTHING in any game I play that does that much of a graphics/FPS drop for my 980mGTX. Though as they slowly get killed it slowly increases fps, haha.
  14. Well, because you hit randomly, I guess anything to do with combat is really a Proc then ?
  15. especially considering it does not even add that 1 endurance... lol
  16. I crafted/enchanted an armor to add +2 resolve and +2 dexterity. The enchantment shows its there. The character does not however have extra dexterity or resolve. I saved, and reloaded. Unequipped and re-equipped. Checked to see if I have other items giving same bonus's , and it was a negative. I am not sure if this is reported else where or part of another series of bugs, I am not going to go and test all the enchantments, but if someone knows a workaround, I would gladly take it. Edit: added tags
  17. Then Im wondering, do amulets have any visuals? no visuals on amulets. I checked.
  18. @ Dork on my first playthrough of anything, I always read all the descriptions and stories, this would be a welcomed change. in divinity original sin, theres non-stop jokes and humour about the world on nearly everything you find. Even items would steal, like the decorations around the house..etc.
  19. Loot is a big thing in these sort of games. Being able to hold endless loot and loot really really easy, is removing the major obstacle that was present in the old games. Not only did we have limited space, we had limited weight too. So you can be a douche and flame me with your sarcasm, but they made a promise to deliver a game that would be a spiritual successor, and be very much like the old games, aside from not actually being the old games. This was a mechanic present in ALL of them, that was fairly very very well understood, and had no issues, was well balanced, and had its place. merchants had limited coins too. It is no longer the same at all. We can loot all, loot an area, hold endless weight, have a huge storage, we can even craft in the middle of no where, currency has become almost meaningless, as we will have near infinite just like the merchants. In one small town alone, a party can come to and leave with 20,000-30,000 coins like in the beta. you have near nothing and a few short hours later after purchasing all the crazy gear you can find and all potions of value, your still filthy rich. now, if merchants didn't have bottomless pits of coins, we would have to travel more to sell stuff, until everyone runs out everywhere or they get more, but it might get to a point, we no longer bother to pick up mundane armors off of corpses and small stuff like that. Maybe we would take our time looting and pick and choose instead of loot all, maybe even ignoring all the generic cut and paste guards and just try and loot the notable npc's. Its a downward spiral, the changes they made. And it becomes less and less like the older games, and more and more like the newer games that have becomes forgotten in much less time, more mediocre, more generic, more just like everything else. Look at Diablo3, which has many of the new features we're seeing being put into this game PoE.. area looting, maybe eventually autoloot...theres a loot all button so far. Both have stashes to hold extra, though PoE goes much further in that direction then Diablo. Both have no weight or size restriction to the items too. If you find a house, you can stick it on your belt or in your bag or in your stash, no problem. Maybe even more if they're made stackable. This also makes the more mundane objects less valuable. but in IWD and BG games, you could use and would use mundane items much more often. Unt il part 2 of either game, I would actually finish with characters still using non-magical gear, maybe not all gear but, some would have a non magical weapon or fullplate. Still used regular arrows. We do not even USE ammunitions in PoE. Guns even exist yet no ammunition exists. Also, maybe not entirely related, in PoE you can't wear an amulet and have the cloak visual at same time because cloaks and amulets take up the same item slot. This is annoying. It is also very unlike the original games. I do not understand the reasoning for it either. Its as if they wanted to piss the fans off.
  20. Yep, it would be, but doesn't seem like it will be. I already wrote about that - we get the stronghold around the middle of the critical path, upgrades cost from near a thousand up to a few thousand cp and give boosts of a 3-4 points to stronghold stats. At the same time it costs 75cp to remove an equal-sized penalty to stats (pay off the drunkard). At first glance, these prices pose virtually no challenge for someone who has been even moderately thorough in looting stuff up to this point in the game. I start the BB with 2800-something cp and by the time I had finished all quests in it I had over 20 000cp. The most expensive room at the Inn costs 250 (or 280?) cp, and I didn't use food buffs. I personally believe, the issue is "being able to thoroughly loot everything" in IE games, you only had so much inventory. If they want to give us a cart, fine, then make a cart visual and following us, and make it affected by terrain, and have things attack it, with chances for everything to be destroyed, add random encounters from brigands too while world mapping....
  21. Phrases don't all have the same duration. The lingering phrase will overlap the next one that the Chanter start to chant. In general, 2 (one lingering, one being chanted) is all that is going to be overlapping. Right, right. The real question underlying this is "how much do I need to pump Intelligence to get (two / three) phrases stacked at once." If there are edge cases where having a 19 Int will let things stack more vs. maybe it's better to just have a 15 Int because that gets you two at once and that's all you need. General rules for phrases, they linger half the time they take to speak and Int increase the linger time. Basically to have 3, you need to start with a very long phrase and follow by two shorts ones. Although, in the BB with Int 22, I haven't seen more than two stacking. The UI also doesn't allow to display more than two phrases overlapping. Ahhh... too bad. I'm barely familiar with chanters as I just started testing and using them recently, but, if I understand correctly, they chant while they do other stuff right?> can it be interrupted , and can invocation too be interrupted, like wizard spells ? If I have the chant on auto, it begins with battle, but does attacking affect it in anyway ? Also, is there a radius for the effects of the chants ? afaik there is none listed, so I assume all enemies? but there surely is a distance factor...and I don't see the chants showing anything in the logs. Its as if they do nothing for me. sorry if I hi-jacked this thread to ask chanter stuff, seemed a good place.
  22. Thanks to that link the otherday, I bought it, since its not available for pledges anymore (shame.) Its been like 3-4 days, and Amazon has no shipping information for me yet (like tracking), so I also guess, I really won't get it until the game is out. Hope I get it the same day at the least. the day before would be great ! actually, on a dpa, or iphone or ipad/samsung galaxy etc.. these are easy to use, and REALLY handy, because you can stay ingame without alt-tabbing, and just a click of the finger to turn a page, also they clutter up the desk less, and are easier to use once you have a good reader installed. Either epubs or pdf's however you view them. I prefer e-books over physical books now, but only recently, as the technology really has caught up. Less fatigue when reading on the bed too, less eye strain then before, also much easier to bookmark, more portable..etc...
  23. You don't need to have multiple resolutions when you do either. But the trick is, for the smaller resolutions, crop out more of the area outside the face itself. And for the larger resolutions, you can show more. If you use too high of a resolution, the picture becomes a bit blurry, but still looks good, so long as theres not tons of details in the orignal resolution. anythign around 4-500 pixels (height) still turns out okay for the high res. but not so much for the low.
