  1. wait, what ?!? Things just went down hill since 2nd ed. in my opinion. I rather had no issues with THAC0 , I consider it a trade off for the full spell lists for divine and arcane. I even liked 3rd ed, liked how we got feats every 3rd level at the very least, and attribute points every 4. 4th... everything became mediocre and sucked. Me and all my friends almost all stopped playing DnD altogether. What's so special about 5ed ? Is it now so simple, its playable with 6 year olds without much explanation or something ? Or did they come out with a card game to support it now too ! LOL.. IDK, i do not particularly trust anything wizards of the coast do any more. EDIT: so i went and read up on it abit. even came accorss this, which is 2 children, 8-9 being DM and playing.. I recently purchased the starter set and played it with my daughters (who are 8 and 9 years old). They expressed some interest in it after I helped them create a Warriors RPG. (Warriors is a young adult book series about cats. It's basically Game of Thrones, but with cats! They love it.) My girls were a bit frustrated at first, but have started to get into it. I let them create lego minifigures (using castle and LOTR figures) that matched the pregenerated characters that came with the set. They liked that, but got a little frustrated with the rules. Specifically, they got frustrated when their attacks missed, so I simplified it a bit for them. I simply removed the hit rolls. Every attack hits and you only roll for damage. I made a few other tweaks and they are now really into it. My youngest decided she wanted to be dungeon master and she ended up interrupting our journey through Phandelver to take us across the sea. We visited a haunted sunken ship (that happened to be located on land) and rescued a few kittens from abandoned homes that now travel with us.
  2. I'm making no fuss at all, the issue has been rectified, the mechanic that will be added will also be optional now, and adjustable. What more could anyone want, from this issue, if this is all true, then its perfect resolution. I don't think I've ever seen such a perfect resolution from a developer before, so soon. now if we're going to speak of ALL issues, then lets get thieving mechanics into the game with abit of spice and drama and lore to fit it in. nothing like being the bandit lord, as you tell your story...I wish, truely, that more games let you be the bandit that is robbing people as they leave one village to go somewhere. Even claim a rep for it, take care of your men possibly, like even derivatives like a classic "robin-hoob" for rp and motivation, with some complex story behind whats truely going on... i.e he came back from crusades etc..some war wtvr lord is missing and your taking advantage or fighting injustice your own way.
  3. hey in PoE mages can be series Melee'ers! Also, I haven't seena single enemy I would call trash mob. Maybe if I lower the difficulty setting, idk. But try playing the game on hard.
  4. I only lol because the work would be insane to set it up if I had to guess. no disrespect intended we understand eachother here in this topic.
  5. LoL, imagine a system where the xp is based on how little damage you take and how quickly you over come the obstacles. Without making scripting a nightmare, how else would you get what you are referring to ? I think what you are looking for is Torment: Tides of Numenera. Its all scripted, and you don't even need to fight. Whats the point of asking "what does one life matter" if you kill people for being in your way, rather then finding intelligent ways to overcome obstacles, more efficiently.
  6. Now you are taking the word as literally what they meant, mechanically. They have specified and described many times, what the intentions were for the game. They usually let us see or know about mechanics of game play though, in some cases even allowing us to vote on them. Its not singularily about being different in a single aspect, but trodding down a path metaphorically that leaves the old games concept behind by replacing them with endless "improvements". One thing leads to another. I didn't make a huge fuss about thieving being largely not in the game. That bothers me even more.. but one thing after another has worn patience thin, someone has to say something, about keeping all our options. If the play is largely customizable, then things are great. When improvements detract from being able to play as creatively as we could, why not just make small changes that allow to preserve and serve both functions, like in the case of this loot mechanic. now, keep in mind, I'm largely exaggerating to make the points seem silly. I do care alot though, and its not just my voice of concern but I speak up when maybe others don't too. This thread is largely over with too, the Devs said they will make the looting a small radius anywhere from 0m to Xm, something we could sleetc or change. Its not the entire screen, its not going to become auto-loot either. So things look good.
  7. I think it is, now that I see it, I think the numbers have changed but there is a definite pattern I noticed in game now seeing that. we would need someone who knows 100% to confirm it.
  8. isn't that the purple green dragon thing ? I forget but, in the earlier beta builds, there was abit more content, and you could use the console to create/summon them. man, am I excited for this game, I really can not wait for this endless dungeon (Mega dungeon , at least 16 floors..) If they're full floor designs and not like simple small floors with 5 minute walkthroughs, then ill be even happier.
  9. wait.. they have 5ED now ?
  10. No it's how fast can a weapon that is 2-3 time longer than normal can swing around and cover that much area. It's dependent on moment of inertia, which is a function of the radius squared integrated across the mass. So double the length, quadruple the torque needed to change the rotation. Plus you've quadrupled the area to cover with the weapon. In short, you can't cover the geometry anywhere near as effective because of the physics involved. HAHA! too realistic though, and its not double the centrifugal force its part of an exponential equation.
  11. Ah your tank is much better but its also a min/maxed chanter. I tried to keep things normal attribute wise. So, the number of "HITS" shown in the combat log, is this the number of poeple affected by the chanting ? For instance, I use that chant that does small amounts of damage, but I also have those talents that steal that endurance for my party. Do those hits mean enemies, or party memebrs or both combine, or just those within the radius affected by the chants damage but not those within range to receive the healing ? Also, does "Might" still affect the healing/damage ?
  12. actually it would be geometry. and it would be how many little engagement range circles however smaller they are could fit around the now larger center circle, i.e the guy with larger engagement surface area. But it would be arguably much more. whatever that number would be, would be relative of course to the situation. But, I now want to see if two pike armed characters and one crazy tank can actually block doorways and be very effective. Anyone attempted this yet/have any experience ? Would I stick them all on defend, or just the center guy, would it even matter the class of the two pike guys, could be a good way to use a chanter or priest, imo. Keeps archers and mages in the back, which is good. Thoughts? (tactics)
  13. Shoddy programming ? Doesn't PoE have Josh from BG too ? How may others were incharge of BG but are doing PoE ? But did not know if someone from the interplay was with Beamdog. Now we know, thanks. Guess that's how they are doing it, all connected. I will greatly look forward to this BG 1.5 And for the record when I referenced BG 3. it was apparantly thought up and started but never got off the ground, back in 2002 or something like that. What ever happened to all those idea's/concepts ?
  14. Yeah, it's kind of hard to hide in shadows when your f***ing head emits light. Fire godlike: *sneaky sneak* Bandit: 'WTF dude I can clearly see you there.' Fire godlike: 'Nu-uh, you don't recognize me.' Bandit: 'The hell I don't, your f***ing head is on fire.' Fire godlike: 'I'm a torch.' Bandit: 'You're an idiot.' Fire godlike: 'Said the guy talking to a torch.' Bandit: 'You know what? You are right, I'm done talking with you.' Fire godlike: 'AMBUSH! HA HA, didn't expect that, eh?' Bandit: *groan* 'Oh. What. A. Surprise.' Fire godlike: 'Damn right. My sneak attacks can cure snake hiccups.' okay sorry, but snake hiccups ? what!?
  15. I fight for XP ! \o/ But I like PoE's system. For xp that is.
  16. The thing is, if I may be allowed to continue this discussion in this thread, about beamdog doing it, its just...who exactly is beamdog ? Do they have any guys who actually worked on the infinity engine back way when, when it first was being used ? They have stated, they are going to be using the infinity engine to do it, this is why I am concerned. In my opin ion, wouldn't it re-introduce all kinds of issues back into the fixes they provided with the EE's... I am surprised they didn't try and kickstarter it either. The guys who all worked on those games (originally, like Josh o/) are doing kickstarters. How did they get the old infinity engine is also another concern, is it still for sale, somewhere some how, what are they not telling us... is this what its like having publishers interfere and keep us in the blind ?? cause if so, screw Publisher made games ! Half the fun with PoE so far has been my involvement in it, waiting for it, and getting to know it for 3 years before it was released. Thoughts anyone ? As for party formation, what I do like, is how easy it is to slide and move around the markers where your party is going to be standing before you lift your finger off the mouse-confirming where they will go. It was abit more clunky in other games. I however, wish, that while you were still holding the mouse button, you could cycle the formation by clicking "Shift" to help formations that are preparing tactically near doorways or tighter spaces or such. Such a feature, would make the game feel very polished and well thought out tactically, IMO. Also, as I stated in early post, would be good if we could align to grid our very own tactical formations and save them, like maybe 1-2 formations. Then you could have included having more then 1-2 formations made customly in that talent that gives you extra weapon sets, and made it a palladin/fighter/ranger talent or something. Since they are the classes I think by default are more associated with leading men, tactically, hack the ranger even has a companion tobegin with. Would be nice if you could tactically cutomise where it went in formations too. Combine this with being able to cycle through fomrations while your finger is on the mouse, holding down movement placement markers from the defaulted formation, and it would be golden ! now THAT has not been done in any game thus far, this would also be optional, as mechanically your not forced to use it, and thus does not detract form the older generation's spirit of gameplay either. It does however, make things more fun and customisable. many of us, enjoy making the most out of small details like that. its literally what we enjoy most in some games, the micromanagment and full control over RP. Edit: ****, do we have a "what I would like to see" in future expansion/successors" thread ?
  17. I never played TOEE or Pools of Radiance:RoMD But I ear theres a BG3 coming out, that will actually be using the infinity engine, and its between bg1 and bg2, or is that a joke ? Apparantly its beamdog that will be doing it. Whatever happened to : Baldur's Gate III: The Black Hound
  18. I've personally been complaining about this for months. No thieving skills. I hope they either surprise us, as in (haha syke we wer elying there is in fact theiving-) or its in the expansion or a very good / large patch. If they had explained there was no thieving, they might have had less backers potentially, so maybe they deliberately didn't mention it.
  19. Thats a good question. Do things like this affects the NPCs in our group...
  20. THEN IT SHOULD BE OPTIONAL. They could have forgone any abilities on any cloaks/capes, and just kept them for the visual... either have them or not. Maybe even script a single conversation over a cloak who knows.. but let you wear amulet/necklaces/nooses etc... without removing the cloak. It makes very little sense. Even balance wise. Are they balancing that because the god-likes have such ****ty abilities, they must also not be able to wear helmets too...why not have given them the chance to even use amulets and cloaks..that would be balancing at 8 items.. or is it that there is just not many cloaks or amulets in the game, so they made it the same slot ?? Theres two ring slots but Ive only ever seen a single ring so far in my beta playthroughs. So confused why this decision was made to combine cloaks/capes and amulets/necklaces. But whomever you are who made this decision, you lack have many people who would suggest otherwise. It seems only natural too.
  21. I like the way PoE did the xp. So long as there are alot of different beasts to get xp for, and decently interesting loot, and situations. PoE is not like Torment that much, I suspect more battles are manditory, if even only because they literally physically block your path and are automatically hostile.
  22. I disagree, I think your relatively poor if you do not max out looting in the original BG/IWD games. Though, with tons of experience in 2nd ed. DnD and the right powerplaying character, guess you could forgo alot of equipment in the beginning and just take what you need etc...Instead of having a few characters inventory filled with breastplates and medium value things.
  23. Know what we need in the future, a custom party stance, where we can align to grid how we like our characters and they save it, and we can use it always. Yet no game I know of has thought to just do this, like its too hard to think of or something. Been pissing me off for twenty years.
  24. Yeah, I will be a completionist while playing first run through. Thanks for confirming its 12 levels in release. guess they didn't want to spil technically the higher levels of the game by allowing us to see what its like... Can't wait for the game to be out. There still an expansion in september coming out, not a DLC but a full expansion, like in the good old days. So few games come outwith expansions these days. Its all about the money for them. They can add a small trophy and change the pattern on a shirt and sell 100,000 copies of the DLC for 5$, why even bother with an expansion right ? I will say this, the last 20 games that got my money were Kickstarted. I hope the trend continues, I hope it also makes big companies like Obs and EA and such start creating better games, since people can now spend less and get a better game from kickstarter most of the time.
