  1. I had a bad day at work, so more ventilation. was needed. Then things got better, since i sumbled upon this band. I wish i could come up with a guitar groove like that.
  2. Wait what? How can you make Alistair king if you spare Loghain? In my playthrough the damn bastard-child just ran off to become a drunken nobody when i spared Loghain.
  3. It should arrive in the mail any day now. But like Monte Carlo, i do not have the interest to play it at the moment. *Damn impulse-pre-order after finishing the main campaign*
  4. I'll keep this under my radar, since the devs seems to be fans of the original game, and the steampunk/cyberpunk/transhumanism touches might make this game like Bioshock was to System Shock 2: Standing ok on its own legs, but inferior to its predecessor. At least, i haven't got any "F*** YEAH! Shoot things! RPG-elements means deciding on whether to shoot or cut stuff! Rock n' rooooooollll!"-vibes yet.
  5. That actually sounds interesting. I might take a look at it after finishing FFXIII and DA:The awakening and God of War III. So, practically, this summer/fall. Of course, there's Alpha Protocol, down the line....
  6. While Labour has been in power long enough for me to remember their failings and winnings, i do have almost no recollection of the Tories. Only slight memories of Maggie having a laugh with Reagan and John Major not doing much at all. Care to enlight me some more?
  7. I only have a Master's degree in Science and Bachelor's degree in Engineering, but while doing my Master's thesis, i did a lot of work with those that did their PhDs. Both levels require that the thesis itself should add something new to the field, but the PhD is usually more abstract and more of an idea than actual direct work. For example, my professor wanted to create a new streambased language and compiler, which would be directly designed for a multi-processor environment. One PhD student researched on designing the structure, meaning on defining the Parser, the Front-end and Back-end of the language. Another one did some research on possible implementation(s) of this solution. My part was to implement libraries for a certain processor-type on the Back-end of the language. So, the roles were: Professor: Inital idea, the guy pulling the chains and direct the project. PhD-students: Design and research of the idea, discovery of new way and ideas that can be implemented. Master's Degree-students: Design and implement new solutions within the areas researched by the PhDs Bachelor's Degree-students: Same as Master's, but whithin a much smaller scope. For example, design the communication interface for the libraries that the Master's degree-student is researching. Just trying to explain the levels of responsibility and how broad a PhD dissertion can be. This was in Science though. I have no idea on how the process is in "softer" subjects.
  8. Got to chapter 4 in FFXIII. I have been playing a lot of RPGs lately that have been about YOU saving the world, YOU deciding whether you should kill the puppy/kid/cute thing or not, YOU getting the phat l00t and YOU deciding whether the world should burn or not. It has been YOUR story in YOUR own little sandbox world. FFXIII simply says "F*** YOU and F**** YOUR stories, you egoistical, pathetic little twit. No one is here for YOU". How about allowing you to witness OUR journey where we make OUR decisions, based OUR moralities?!" I really welcome this change of story progression and control. The combat system is really nice as well, you get severly penalized if you do not use of the Paradigm shifting. A bit linear so far, but that's about it. Love the characters, music, art and graphics(duh!) so far.
  9. out of all the FF games i played FFX > FFX-2 > FFVII > FFIX > FFV > FFIV > FFXII > FFVI > FFVIII > FFI > FFII let the flamewar begin mwahahahahaha Oh dear, i actually agree with you there
  10. Oh my, such illusions some people have about my neighbouring country called Sweden. I've been there more times than i can remember, and you guys are all pretty much wrong. Healthcare is payed by taxes, same with higher education. There are also private schools for those that can afford it. Other than that, it is as socialistic as the USA.
  11. ....and another that i will not bother with, thanks to mr. Yahtzee. If you use ZP as your main source of reviews, it doesn't seem like you'll buy very many games... I think he's only liked 3 games that he's reviewed (Bioshock, Portal, and... something else)... Well, he is not the main reason behind deciding a purchase or not, but if he actually enforces the very points that made me vary of a particular game to begin with, i usually just skip it. I actually bought several games that he didn't like for their respective reasons, but those were reasons that i found to be redudant for my gaming experience.
  12. - Final Fantasy XIII Godammit, i wish that i was studying at the university again. This is one of those games where you don't know when to quit, you just want to know what happens next. The graphics are ace of course, and the soundtrack actually has a Final Fantasy vibe to it, yay! But the characters and the story really does suck you in. While i am only within the first hours of the game, there is a strong sense of urgency that keeps you hooked. What i also really like is how the game switches between different characters and their respective parties, instead of being stuck with Cloud/Squall/Zidane/Tidus/Vaan from the very beginning. While FFXII had incredibly dull characters, pompous dialogue, nonengaging story and being a grindfest to boot, this game however, actually feel like a Final Fantasy-game. It sure has been a while. It's like playing Final Fantasy X again without the dopey english voice-overs, good stuff.

  14. My portfoolio is very risk-minimized. Agriculture, non-investment banks and alike . Through 11 years time, it has grown by 500%! (my original deposit was not that high ) I have been following the rise of the Gold lately, quite interesting. Why a steady rise the last 18 months? Mainly due to fear over the dollar and the US economy in general. Not just the dollar actually, many countries are dealing with devaluation of currency which compels investors to seek "real" assets. I've been wondering if it has hit the ceiling. I was thinking of divesting some of it actually. I started buying Canadian Maple Leafs in 2007 and have bought as many as I could afford every year. But the price has fallen off 11% in the last few weeks so I stopped in January. I've been watching it drop slowly but steadily and I think we might be at the ceiling. I started buying at $720 per in 07 and it's just below $1200 per as of Friday. I started buying Silver in 2008, not the actual coins but PMCP shares. It's value hasn't changed that much. I got in around $12 and it's been hovering around $17 for a little while. Thanks for the tip, i'll look into it more when i have some spare cash to spend!

  16. Those who, 1) Bought government bonds, which can be private persons, private or national banks or other governments in other countries. If all goverments owe money to each other, there should be some balance. Basically, A owes x to B, while B owes y to A.
  17. Finally Jeff Bridges won an Oscar. He should've won one already way back when he did The Big Lebowsky. I haven't seen this movie though
  18. The shots against goals statistics went 25-25. Christ, what an embaressing game. It should be shown to prospecting hockey-players everywhere on how not to play hockey.
  19. I paraphrased that incorrectly, i meant that the US got to 6-0 without any bigger effort. I wouldn't be surprised if the americans went: "Huh? that was it?"
  20. USA is demolishing them. + they aren't even dominating the game itself. They are simply ruthlessly effective.
  21. I think Finland just broke some olympic record in the semifinals: 0-6 within thirteen minutes of play.
  22. I don't hate Germans in general. Just WWII-era ones, because they elected Hitler, making them- guess what?- Nazi scum. Hitler got 33% of the vote, and there aren't any figures on how many voted on the nazis simply because they were not the established party. Which ones are you exactly talking about? //EDIT: Numbersman got the right numbers, I was thinking about the presidential election, where he actually loosed against Hindenburg
  23. I think that a certain two people on this board are in need to watch Dr. Strangelove again.
  24. Northern Iraq is almost autonomous. They have their own flag, their own army and an own national identity: The Kurds. Just saying. Afghanistan has little of a national identity as well, as there are 7 different nationalities in the same area, each with their own language and culture. They are more like a (very)poor man's version of the Swiss.
  25. This pretty much sums what people said at work today:
