  1. Of course he did. Freud was in love with his own sister and had a sexual fixation.
  2. maybe ad hominem, but everytime i see the words "christian" and "science" together i become very sceptical... " <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually, the Christian Science Monitor is a reputable scientific journal, despite its name.
  3. Actually, it is the mathematical notation for perpendicular. As I knew that, I now rule the universe. Thus, my nick.
  4. _|_ Discover the meaning of this sigil and you shall rule the universe.
  5. I remember him simply as a guest star on several animated superhero shows I watched as a child. From what I recall, he was a citizen of a galactic human society, and in order to prevent the destruction of that society agreed to serve Galactus, an evil planet-eating giant android/alien/god thing. In return, he was changed into the Silver Surfer as symbol of his servitude. Though he saved them, the people of his civilization despise Galactus so much as to transfer that hate to him. Id guess the main reason was that as Galactus' herald, the Silver Surfer searched for planets for the evil being to eat. Eventually, he discovers Earth and sends a message to Galactus. Basically, to the tune of: "Dinner's ready!" After meeting an Earth woman with whom he falls in love, the Silver Surfer turns against Galactus and becomes a superhero who travels the galaxy saving people and trying to defeat his former master. I also seem to have a vague recollection from a Spiderman episode in which some female relative who grew up on Earth decides to become the next servant of Galactus. She also becomes silvery and gets a galactic surfboard.
  6. My basic premise for this thread is to post links to articles you have found detailing recent scientific breakthroughs of which others might otherwise not have heard. Ill start off with four I found: Scramble your Conversations Quantum Computer Within Three Years Cold Fusion Seems to be Real Force Fields Might Allow Lunar Base
  7. I especially liked the Fuzors.
  8. The rule book specifically says that in cases where two territories share the same first three letters a special abbreviation is assigned to one of them, usually the one of lesser importance from what Ive seen. Silly Jaguar, tricks are for kids.
  9. Im too young to have many memories of the original Transformers, however I do believe I have seen them a few times. Also I remember liking Beast Wars a great deal as a child. Shapeshifting has always been an underlying interest of mine.
  10. My Rant against Robert Jordan :D First of all, his name is Terry Goodkind. Second of all, while I do enjoy his writing, I find the fact that almost all of the female characters (especially ones that play a pivotal role) are raped or sexually assaulted in some way both disturbing and adolescent. Granted, I havent read his last several books. It seems in the last one, the female lead disappears and suddenly no one remembers her except the male lead. I think Goodkind, like Jordan, has run out of ideas and continues his story simply to make money off a well known name.
  11. Seriously, Meta, stop your jesting. Obviously, knomes are a hybrid where the father is a kender and the mother is a gnome. Gender are the exact opposites. (Sort of like the liger and tigon.) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Wouldn't a Gender get confused -- what gender is a Gender, if a Gender has a male Kender and female Gnome, if the Kender was a she-male? And, WTF is a Kender? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually, a Gender would have a male Gnome and a female Kender as parents. But thats beside the point. Kender

  13. In that case, though I too disagree with the concept and institution of religion, I am forced to play devil's advocate. ... Well, I was going to do so, up until I read Meta's post. I agree with him and will desist. Though I do think playing with nutjobs on either side of the religious issue can be fun. As Carlos Mencia says, "There are too many stupid people and no one to eat them."
  14. The hell are you on about?
  15. Doubtful. The Holocaust is known as attempted genocide, and thus most people associate it with mass murder. Making an unexplained connection between that and damnation is a pretty big leap in most cases.
  16. Saotome Ranma, (as you should know, Japanese have surname first) a teenage martial artist, and his father Genma travel to the 'cursed training ground' of Jusenkyo in China. There, despite the warnings of the Chinese guard that if they fall in they will turn into the last thing that drowned there, they fall into the cursed springs. From now on, whenever Ranma is doused in cold water, he turns in to a red-headed girl and his father likewise changes into a panda. Hot water changes them back into men again, but only until the next time. To make matters worse, Ranma's father engages him to his friend's daughter: Tendo Akane, a girl who hates boys. Thats just the first episode. It gets wackier from there. Ran for about 160 eps.
  17. The Nephilim, also known as the Grigori, were actually the crossbreed children of the Angel Shemyaza and his followers with humans in several apocryphal writings of both the Jewish and early Christian faiths.
  18. IIRC, this date comes from the Popol Vuh, the Mayan religious Book. Mayan cosmology and religion are highly based on astronomy and celestial observation. They have accurately predicted many stellar events, and in all honesty, their calendar is just as, if not more, accurate than our own. According to their calculations, such an event will occur on December 21, 2012 when "the winter solstice sun conjuncts the crossing point of Milky Way and ecliptic in Sagittarius." (Had to look up the exact phenomena.) The crossing point is equivalent to the dark rift in the Milky Way, an area known as Xibalba to the ancient Maya. Xibalba was believed to the road to the Underworld. Thus, they believe that on this date (December 21, 2012) after 13 of their baktuns (a measurement of time) have passed, the world will end. If I am not mistaken, this is the part of the brain which reacts to and maintains our personal EM fields. When people are exposed to a certain frequency of electromagnetism, this area reacts, prompting a religious experience in some people. Others have experiences of aliens or UFOs. It is believed to be the main cause of both types of sightings.
  19. The London Gazette, February 16, 1901 Man Arrested, Authorities Say by George Phillips, Crime Journalist A crazed man named Otto Van der Beek was arrested this morning in Oxford, after posting propagandist literature and spouting conspiracy theories. Claiming to be a former military scientist for the German Emperor, this man espouses the seemingly preposterous notion that the recently revealed "Moon Cannon" is a clever front. According to Van der Beek, the Cannon never had the power to launch objects into orbit, and, indeed, has been intended since its conception as a vehicle for military action, such as the launching of missiles. Though we have had no luck in substantiating these suppositions, the man was soon taken into military custody, probably in an attempt to draw more information from him. Nothing has been heard of the matter since. If this proved true, it would cast great doubt on the German calls for maintained peace. For the sake of the world, we hope it is not.
  20. I cant remember exactly where, but I recently used Spellmar in an attempt to bring these boards back to their glory days.
  21. I bow before thee, young Baley. You have allowed me to fulfill a longtime dream, locating the original Quest for Glory games!
  22. Actually the plague reached American shores perhaps six months ago. I remember seeing commercials where you can buy ringtones and backgrounds for your phone. The Crazy Frog was one of them, along with a small yellow chick and something else I cant quite recall.
  23. The London Gazette, February 9, 1901 Signs of German Warmongering? By Jordan Collier, Political Correspondent In response to a recent congratulatory statement by British Prime Minister Arch Regis to his continental counterparts, the Foreign Affairs Ministry reported German Emperor Kaftan Barlast shot the proverbial tipped hat. His literal words were: "*shoots at hat*" Naturally, we do not condone any calls to violence, yet such intimations of enmity can not be tolerated if we are to maintain a peaceful and prosperous Europe. England warns its neighbors to beware of possible German aggression and to watch this nation closely. Though the government expresses hope to continue good relations with the Hapsburg Empire, they mentioned that they cannot help but wonder at Germany's motives in the coming joint defense negotiations with Austria. Germany's history is not free of bloodshed and their recent unificiation bodes ill for the fate of those lands with similar Teutonic bloodlines. Russia Agrees to Peacetalks by Ryan Whitte We just received word that Russian Czar Ender has agreed to reconciliation between his nation and the Ottoman Empire. Though no formal date has been set, expect this event to occur soon. As previously stated, England will act as mediator. However, certain comments by the Tsar prove troubling. He cites the need for expansion of his nation so as to bring "our fellow countries together under one umbrella." Most political analysts assume this to mean Europe under a Russian hegemony. It is widely agreed upon that dominant power of any sort in the hands of a single man or group is dangerous for all others. Again, England does not approve of warfare for such reasons, however, we ask Russia to consider the sovereignty of other nations and not offend the current status quo. In the words of Prime Minister Regis, "War benefits only the vultures."
  24. The London Gazette, January 25, 1901 Tension Between Russia and Ottomans by Jordan Collier, Political Correspondent Despite assurances to the contrary by Russian officials, our sources tell us strain continues to grow between the two Balkan powers. As reported earlier, this recent strife seems to derive from a comment made by new Tsar Ender Wiggin that, "the Ottoman Empire is probably full of furniture" as well as recent Russian military movements along the Russian-Ottoman border. Concerned by these reports, British Prime Minister Regis and the Houses of Parliament have announced plans to coordinate peace talks between the two nations. Though Caliph Metadigital has stated "We will not sit back and be attacked," he appears amenable to negotiations. No response has been received from the Russian government. A setting and date have not yet been determined, though it will most likely occur in England as a neutral party.
