In Defense of Darth Nihilus
Ivan the Terrible replied to Tasthius's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
My problem isn't the name. I understand the idea of Nihilism quite well. My problem is he has the personality of Darth Maul without all the dialogue. -
Reasons I did not enjoy KotOR II ( Big spoilers )
Ivan the Terrible replied to Kevar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Agree with pretty much every point, unfortunately. I'm especially disappointed in the 'training an apprentice' part of the game. What I was hoping would happen was that you would find ONE apprentice and that you'd be able to teach the ways of the Force to them as you saw fit. What I got was a whole bunch of NPCs who could ALL become Jedi....and then that was it. No dialogue options about their emerging powers, or the Force, or the Light Side and Dark Side. Nothing. It felt more like a nod to powergaming than a story point. -
KOTOR2 is un-playable.

I'd suggest picking up the PC version instead, which is supposed to be patched up a bit by the time February comes around. Until then, though I had nowhere near your troubles and think your case is unusual, I'd suggest taking it back for another game. -
To the Devs, Thank You

100%? Heh. I don't think I've ever played a game that deserves 100%.

Should a KOTOR 2 : TSL The devolopers cut
Ivan the Terrible replied to Craftsman's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
It'll never happen. But I would be happy if it did. -
If you mean re-use John Williams music from the movies, I couldn't disagree more. They've done that a billion times in countless other Star Wars games. Eventually, you start to wonder why the Cantina from Nar Shaddaa in Jedi Outcast is playing the exact same music the Cantina on Tatooine was playing probably over a decade ago.

There's a reason why John Williams doesn't make the scores for Star Wars games. One is that he's a movie composer; the other is

Did a certain NPC return?
Ivan the Terrible replied to GhostofAnakin's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The first line of dialogue you hear from Darth Nihilis is 'Gluupor Wonky.' You do the math. 'Don't do it Gluupor!' -
Not in the same way, but that's for the better. You don't need to go walking around with the 'right' people in your party; party interaction takes place automatically every once in awhile when you enter the Ebon Hawk. It actually allows the conversations to be more natural; instead of just suddenly chatting about something in the middle of a Sith base, you'll see them strolling the corridors of the Ebon Hawk chatting in a sort of mini-cutscene.

I was at Consular 17/Jedi Master 9 when I finished.

He's much better. He still speaks in beeps and whistles, but this time around you can actually understand him....and he has a lot more to say and do.

Pretty sure it is. Since I was playing Light Side and Kreia seemed to agree with none of my decisions, I used a bug to max out my influence with her, and I didn't see any new info beyond her link to Revan and how Revan amassed his armada. Besides, such information shouldn't be a 'bonus'; it should be in the plot for all to see.

Questions I'm still completely stumped by: 1) Who in the hell were Darth Sion and (especially) Darth Nihilis!? We see Sion three times, but beyond being Kreia's apprentice in the past, we know nothing at all about the guy. We know even less about Nihilis, except that he's supposedly a sort of 'black hole' in the Force, devouring everyone around him. Where did they come from? What role did they have in the Jedi Civil War, if they were involved at all? And what's with the weird alien language for Nihilis? 2) The Ebon Hawk seems to fall into a ravine....and then is suddenly completely prepared to fly again when you're done with Kreia. What the hell....? 3) So Malachor V apparently corrupted people to the Dark Side, whether Force Sensitive or not. How and why? It's rather irritating that virtually the entire thing consists of combat rather than explaining why you're there. At least the Star Forge had the Unknown Planet before it to give you a grip on what was happening, and why. 4) How was Nihilis killing people 'through the Force'? Some vague suggestions were made, but frankly, the guy I met on the bridge of the Ravager was hardly capable of killing a planet single-handedly. There are more, but these are the ones that have left me more than a bit frustrated.

So....I ended up playing KOTOR II.

I should note I love Fallout's ending, and PS:T's ending. Two of my all-time favorite endings in game history, in fact. -

I remember Chris Avellone commented one time that KOTOR II's ending would provide a perfect set-up for KOTOR III, so I'm not so sure about that. Besides, it's Lucasarts' decision rather than the designers, and if KOTOR II is as lucrative as the first game I'm sure we'll be seeing a third game. -

I agree. If anyone out there is thinking of not buying the game now that people are bitching about the ending....rethink it. If you play it, even if you agree when you finish that we were right and the ending leaves you hollow, I think you'll find the game itself more than worth it. -

I liked PS:T's ending. A lot. But I'm pretty alone on that one, I know. And while I wasn't timing it, and I don't remember what hour I ended on, it felt longer than 30 hours to me. -

It's not really a spoiler, anymore than someone saying they didn't like a certain character in KOTOR without explaining anything about why. It's just not news you wanted to hear. But it's just my opinion, anyway. I'm sure there are people who will disagree when they actually play the game. -
