Difficulty levels - how hard is hard?
Malagance replied to Simon Appleton's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
IRL's? Chamdar, you do have some points. I realize that the bosses can kill you in only a few hits, the problem is that a well-built character can kill them before they get a hit in on you, theoretically. Especially if you use flurry. I suppose what I personally want in that regard are some bosses with more durability. Also the natural regeneration seems a bit... much. -
Yeah, I hear ya. I really liked some of the choices you got in KOTOR1, and I think there are good reasons for not having them in KOTOR2 (Can't have clones of Revan running around, not to mention there's no way you could surreptitiously choose a head for Revan to use when you're playing the exile). There were a couple bearable heads in KOTOR2, but one of them, white guy with long black hair, seems to have some sort of a glitch on my system, where a big lump or bar or something sticks out of the side of his face/throat for no apparent reason. That graphic glitch drives me insane so I don't use that head anymore. Yeah, and the Jesus head, well, I just feel like I'd get struck down if I choose it.

Difficulty levels - how hard is hard?
Malagance replied to Simon Appleton's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Cool, I gotcha. So why don't we make this productive, then. What about the combat do you think could be adjusted to make it more satisfying? Personally, and this might just be me, I didn't think that the enemy force users used their powers nearly enough. But since force users make up a very small percentage of encounters in general... I'd just have to say that the AI (Both for comrades and enemies) needs to be tweaked in a big way. Intelligent enemies are much more satisfying to defeat than mindless hordes. They don't even need to be that strong, but if weaker enemies used tactics and fought intelligently, they could do a lot more with what little power they have. The soldiers in the original half-life come to mind, their AI was pretty good if I recall. Also, I don't mind slaughtering lots of troops and so forth, in fact, I think that's a very satisfying part of the game. However, there also needs to be other characters that can challenge you that you encounter on a semi-regular basis... like the sith that overpopulate the final area. They're cool, but they need to be kicked up a LOT in terms of their power. The bosses, obviously, need a similar steroid injection. -
T3-M4. The legendary midget-bot has come a LOOONG way since KOTOR1, where his only purpose was to unlock a single door on Taris. I'm interested in him in KOTOR2. I've played through the game completely twice and I'm almost through on my third run. This most recent game, I've been toying around with T3 a bit and intend to use him as a main member of my party next time through, I think. One of the reasons is that I've found that this little guy is dependable and you can get him pretty powerful, despite his lack of combat feats. I found the warfare upgrade and loved it. Anyway. The point of this post is that I am aware that you can upgrade T3 throughout the game when you talk to him. Repair and Computer use are both required, and I'm also aware that Bao-Dur upgrades him pretty early on. Finally, to my surprise, when I took T3 with me on accident to G0-T0's yacht and jacked him into the security terminal (I think, maybe it was a command terminal) I had the option to upgrade his targetting software or something, raising his dex by 1. Questions: 1. I've upgraded T3 all the way through my dialogues with him except for, I believe, the "final" upgrade. I believe YOU get a stat boost to wisdom for doing this, but I can't seem to be able to do it. It's an option in the dialogue menu, something like: "[Repair/Computer Use] How about one last upgrade? I keep thinking that I'm forgetting something." But when I select it he replies in a typically binary fashion and my responses are something like "What? I promise I won't blank out like last time?" or "What, are you worried about me?" or "Never Mind", I think. It never states "[influence: Failed]" so I don't know what's up. I'm a dark sider, so does that have something to do with it? Is it an influence problem after all, and it's just forgetting to display it? 2. Are there any other upgrades for T3 besides the ones you and Bao-Dur do, and the one you download from G0-T0's yacht? 3. Anyone use this lil' guy in their group through most of the game? Thoughts? Advice on how to outfit him? All I know is that his stats can get pretty beastly from all the upgrades and components, and that ain't a bad thing. Thanks.

Too many NPCs a bane for KOTOR II
Malagance replied to alx1078's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The first time I went through the game, I took Mandalore (Too cool) and Visas with me everywhere for my party. I therefore didn't notice anything strange at the end of the game. Then I played through again with Her Hottness Mira and Bao-Dur as my main characters. At the end of the game, I realized that you HAD to take Visas and Mandalore with you on the ravager. I don't have a problem with taking Mandy-man, but Visas? Ugh. I was very ticked. Oh, and many of the NPCs lacked a solid background. Kreia was about the only one. What tidbits they had would be alright if they didn't have the influence system for unlocking conversations and instead took the KOTOR1 route of having it unfold with time, but with the influence system, they probably would've been better off cutting out some of the less popular NPCs and putting in more stuff for the existing ones. And I'm not a fan of ever being forced to take more than one person with me at any given time. The Ravager just pisses me off now whenever I get to it. The "take over someone that isn't your main character" is a nice turn, but they either needed to do it less often or have it take up less time. The only times I don't ever mind it are when I'm playing T3. The little droid is spunky and is so different than playing a normal character that it's a nice refreshing change to play, furthermore, none of T3's segments last for that long. But there are parts like where you take control of Mira while walking into the Jekk Jekk Tar. Now I'm a fan of Mira, but this sequence was completely unnecessary. They could have just waltzed Mira into the bar via cinematic. Not to mention, the atmospheric suit gives you a very limited (Read: Nonexistent) view of her booty. -

KOTOR2: Hottest Female Character
Malagance replied to Topaz Quasar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I dislike women who do their hair with a weed-eater, and I don't like Visas's personality at all. Disgustingly pathetic. Mira was definitely the most firey and feisty of the bunch, and the best looking. This just goes to show how different people have different tastes. I might have voted Visas's way were it not for the fact that you never actually see her face. -
Difficulty levels - how hard is hard?
Malagance replied to Simon Appleton's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The 'point' of playing games on difficult is so that they are FUN. Its just plain retarded and defeats the point to give bonuses when you notch up the difficulty level. Some of us like to use our brains when playing. Its 1.5x damage when on difficult, they also may have a little more hp and higher saves, not sure but the 1.5x damage is definite. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Calm down, Fido. You'll note that I play on the highest difficulty as is. You'll also note that I put quote marks around "point" in my post. Put two and two together, I'm on your side. -
What we can do about the state of TSL
Malagance replied to Dehumanizer's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I agree with Shadowpaladin on this one. Cases like these really bug me. It cheapens a character if they're absolutely slaughtered without even being given a chance to fight, what's the point of leveling or using him then, if you know it's all pointless? That's really what disgusted me with KOTOR2's ending. All that time I spent getting influence and turning companions into jedi was completely and totally pointless. You might as well solo the game, because your stats are the only ones that matter as is. At least Mira has some sort of an endgame type thing where her stats WILL matter as she fights Hanharr again on Malachor V. I think that an honest solution to this would have been to up Sion's power to where it should have been. That way, if this ending were to be put in, you could fight Sion as Atton, lose, and then have whatever happen instead of ending the game. Or keep it as is, and since Atton doesn't have a clue about what's going on, he can't weaken Sion or kill him permanently, therefore he will eventually die. The difference is that when your character comes along, you know how to get Sion to give up for good, allowing you to "win" the fight and move on. My point is that I understand where most of you are coming from but that there are a lot of people who have their suspension of disbelief shot to HELL when they see something happen that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever in terms of the game rules. It is not hard at all to do storytelling within a game without utterly disregarding the game rules. When you're in a game, these rules might as well be the laws of physics, why sucker punch the physicists? (Besides the obvious answer of "Because they're physicists and nasal-voiced scientists piss me off" While this is a valid answer, it isn't exactly relevant to the situation ) What we have here is a textbook example of gamer types and what they prefer, but what we also have here is a stupid example of how to piss off both types when it's reasonably possible to please both types. -
Should the "real" ending be restored?
Malagance replied to Dehumanizer's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Yeah, well... I agree with you for what it's worth. I simply have just given up on seeing it restored through official channels. I agree that this could have been one of the best RPGs of all time if they had completed a lot of the stuff that was taken out and featured Sion and Nihilus more as well as explaining them further, finished the HK factory, put in an actual storyline for Mandalore, put in all of the missing ending content, modified NPC behavior based off of their light/dark alignment, increased the difficulty level, and spruced up the locations to make them more unique and flavorful... There's a lot they could have done. What they have right now is a good game, I'll give them that, but it's a good game that could have been a terrific and excellent game. -
General Discussion About The Game
Malagance replied to jon_stowell's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The AI for your companions is terrible. Don't rely on it. It would be nice if you could, but you can't. Pray for a patch, and yes I am well aware that the game should play correctly when it comes out of the box blahblahblah. Solo the game. >=) On hard. Without Lightsabers. This hides the ally AI problem (you're alone) and the difficulty problem (Or at least makes it a bit tougher). -
Difficulty levels - how hard is hard?
Malagance replied to Simon Appleton's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The game might seem a little bit more difficult for a while, but once you get a saber, the difficulties all seem to blend together, because combat becomes ridiculously easy. If you're good at tweaking the D20-based system and powergaming, the game will always be too easy unless you go to serious lengths to handicap yourself. For example, soloing a sentinel with blasters on difficult might be a challenge for me, but for some, just playing a single-saber guardian is challenging enough. Either way, the game's difficulty, for me at least, is heavily tied to the presence or absence of a lightsaber. When I was soloing as a sentinel on difficult, the game could be pretty challenging up until that point. But I agree, there's not a whole lot of a point to playing on difficult mode other than the challenge, so it's mostly for bragging rights. If they made it so that on difficult the items would be on average, stronger, and if they increased the exp gain, then there might be a "point" to playing difficult. As it stands, though, I still have mine set to difficult by default, simply because I think it's best to challenge yourself in any way possible, especially with a game like this, and especially if you want to get better at something. -
Should the "real" ending be restored?
Malagance replied to Dehumanizer's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Dehumanizer, while I am also displeased with the ending as is, I can't help but wonder if you actually care for the opinions of anyone here unless they coincide with your own. You can call it being "open minded" or "thought provoking" but your repetitive statements seem to indicate that you're not really looking for honest opinions, just for people to agree with you. As for my thoughts, I've beaten the game on the PC 3 times now, and I've learned to deal with the ending and all of its cut stuff. In all honesty I was ticked off at first but there's not a whole lot that can be done about it now, unless you're a modder, either way the question is moot. If you're a modder, you'll mod regardless of what others think about it. If nothing can be done, then the only purpose behind these kinds of questions is to sit around moping and whining about how we, as gamers, have been taken advantage of, and how "The Man" at Lucasarts is totally evil, etc. -
Conversation options sometimes require awareness. In fact, pretty much all skills are relevant in conversation now. I.E. Repair skill might be needed to know while talking to someone about systems being shut down in a space station that this wouldn't be standard emergency procedure, etc. Skills are much more important than in KOTOR1. Period.

This is beautiful, Aurora. Thanks a bunch, and be sure to let us know if you come up with anymore difficulty boost mods. I'll gobble them up, if for no other reason than bragging rights. The game's current difficulty is unimpressive. I mean, when you can defeat two dark jedi, a sith lord, and a sith marauder simultaneously UNARMED on difficult mode at level 27... well, I thought it was just plain silly. Thumbs up. If you get anything that boosts the powers of various bosses, I'd be interested in that, too.
-
Yeah. Our lives are pretty pathetic if this stresses us out, too. At least I expect someone who believes themselves witty to say this sometime soon. The only reason I'm so obsessed with this is BECAUSE THE STUFF IS THERE. It's sitting in a folder on our hard drive. It's stuff that you know if it had made it's way into the game, the game would've been one of the best RPGs to date (For me, at least. To each their own). But yes. I need to go hang out with people. KOTOR2 has robbed too many hours from me as is. The Drama of KOTOR2's missing stuff is just... bleh.

Totally a matter of personal preference there, dude.

Switching characters on Ebon Hawk
Malagance replied to Zetto's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Actually you CAN swap weapons in the EH. Go to your inventory screen and click on the little arrows to the left and right of the character's portrait underneath his equipment setup. You can thus equip Atton with his l337 blasters within the comfortable interior of your ship! -
Even if the majority of the posters (including myself) agree that the game is in need of some revising, it is still entirely possible that we are the vocal minority. People rarely come to these boards unless they have a problem with the game in the first place, so the demographic is skewed. On the other hand, there are some people who come to these boards simply because they love the game a lot. Either way, I agree with you. The OE developers have been curiously inactive on their own boards, and what they have to say is about the only thing that will lay many of the questions in the minds of the readers to rest. Regardless, I found that programmer's post to be incredibly arrogant. Of course initial sales of their game were tremendous, because nobody knows anything's wrong with it really until they get to the end and feel like they've been punched in the face... What irks me are the reviewers and the people who gave it RPG of the year and so forth. It would be amusing to see the people behind those awards try to explain the entire plotline. Indeed, it wasn't until I was trying to explain the storyline to someone else that I realized I had no idea what was going on by the end of it. A most embarassing moment, I assure you.

Switching characters on Ebon Hawk
Malagance replied to Zetto's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
For me the main issue with not being able to switch on the EH was be when I needed someone's skill at the workbench, and didn't feel like leaving the EH and walking to location X just to use the workbench when there's one sitting right inside my ship. Before anyone replies with "If you want to be able to make stuff, then make a skill-based character and stop whining" I remind you that all I'm asking for is a feature that makes complete and total sense. Though I understand that evidently the workbench is bugged and you're not supposed to be able to use party members' skills to make items, only the exile's. Any word on that? -
Check the link in my signature, dude, and follow the links in that thread. It contains spoilers, though. But if you don't want to check, I'll sum it up for you: There's a lot of stuff that got cut from this game. My personal opinion is that it's a good game. A good game that could've been one of the most excellent games of all time. As it stands, there are some significant holes in the plot and gameplay. Despite what others will claim, any game where half of the players have to come onto these forums and compare notes, search the game directories for dialogue snippets and sound files, and do a whole lot of speculating in order to figure out what on earth is going on is a game that could've used a whole lot of work.
-
Yeah. Even on difficult combat was resolved way too quickly. By the end you don't feel strong, you just feel cheap. Currently I'm looking for ways to make the combat more amusing without completely gimping my character. I'm thinking of making a "Kung Fu Master" type character, Consular/Jedi Master who fights unarmed. I'd probably use KSE to give him the echani feats that handmaiden has, which isn't entirely unreasonable when you realize how much of a difference it makes to be unable to customize your weapons (your hands). Another thing I was considering was being a jaded fallen jedi who uses twin blasters, not 100% dark or light, but somewhere in between, doing what he feels like and blasting those who try to push him around.
-
Which could be "hawt" except that they all look like they cut their hair with a weed-eater and therefore look like GI Jane rejects in eskimo suits.
-
Welcome to a little flaw in the influence system. Even a super-light-side Visas will suggest tossing a hand grenade into a group of innocents. It kind of sucks, the only character that even mentions anything odd about your influence over her is Mira, who is unsettled by how easily she can bring herself kill people now that she's around you (whereas before, she was known to never ever kill someone if it could be avoided, hence Hanharr's lil' obsession). As for handmaiden, you'll learn her name later in the game, don't worry.
