The video's not available in the US? I listened to the live performance instead. I'm liking their sound so far. Started listen to Von Liebe, Tod und Freiheit on YT and at the intro of the first song I knew I'd heard that tune in a Leaves' Eyes song. Turned out to be "To France". Like, exactly the same tune. Funny, huh.

    Ah, the early 00s were "fun" times for metal fans. In Flames' Reroute to Remain, Metallica's St. Anger and Theatre of Tragedy's [ˈmjuːzɪk] marked the end of the era where I could go out and grab a new album of a band I liked without reading reviews or listening to samples. There are other examples of course but those weren't as extreme or at least not as jarring.

    Ah, the early 00s were "fun" times for metal fans.     Disclaimer: I only know Whoracle and Colony from In Flames. I didn't know their "new" stuff was bad, because for the most part I only listen to music based on recommendations from acquaintances, so I don't really keep up with what bands do.

     

    So, keep recommending...

    My favorite In Flames album is Clayman. It came out after they toured with Moonspell and has some obvious influences from that tour as well, e.g. Clayman being the first In Flames album to feature synths if I remember correctly.

     

    It also helps that I really enjoy Moonspell, particularily Irreligious. I'd consider both - Clayman and Irreligious - quintessential items in any metal fan's collection, regardless of genre preference, and I don't even like most Black or Death Metal music.

    Well... yeah. Here's the rub though, I thought Anette was terrible on Dark Passion Play but ended up really enjoying her performance on Imaginaerium. I've by far and large stopped listening to Nightwish. No real desire to get used to another vocalist only to have her fired shortly thereafter. :p

     

    Speaking of new things, new single from Within Temptation.

     

     

    Not sure if I like that more than the pop-gothic they've put out in the past few years, although I don't mind them being a bit heavier again (or actually heavy, for a change, it that makes sense). I just never expected... well... dunno, this sounds like Nine Inch Nails at times. :)
