The words freedom and liberty, are diminishing the true meaning of the abstract concept they try to explain. The true nature of freedom is such, that the human mind is unable to comprehend it, so we make a cage and name it freedom in order to give a tangible meaning to what we dont understand, just as our ancestors made gods like Thor or Zeus to explain thunder.

What? You thought it was a quote from some well known wise guy from the past?

Stupidity leads to willful ignorance - willful ignorance leads to hope - hope leads to sex - and that is how a new generation of fools is born!

We are hardcore role players... When we go to bed with a girl, we roll a D20 to see if we hit the target and a D6 to see how much penetration damage we did.

Modern democracy is: the sheep voting for which dog will be the shepherd's right hand.

^I'm usually against throwing up the peace sign in a picture, but once in awhile an exception comes along.

Technically, that peace sign is the wrong way around.. and in English was the "up yours" sign we'd make to the French.

For the historical note, that actually came about after Agincourt and was the English archers doing the "see, we still have our bow fingers and will shoot the ***** out of you Frenchies!"

To be fair, that likely was English propaganda to spur on their own soldiers, and since the King of England supposedly said this

“…And further he told them and explained how the French were boasting that they would cut off three fingers of the right hand of all the archers that should be taken prisoners to the end that neither man nor horse should ever again be killed with their arrows. Such exhortations and many others, which cannot all be written, the King of England addressed to his men”.

Still, I love it ^^

Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Mencken

I tell that story to my students every year with the caveat that it may be a bit apocryphal.

Also gives me a chance to teach what apocryphal means.  :p

Sartre and de Beauvoir are two very interesting fellows anyway. As an example:

Even though they were in a life long relationship, they'd always talk very formal with each other using vous instead of tu (which basically is a more formal way of addressing people). They also both had many many affairs with many many students, and sometimes even with the same student. I'm sure that must have resulted in interesting discussion.

Considering their communist sympathies, I think it is fair to say that they were sharing the means of production.

And of course, it seems like neither size nor looks really matter in the end.

For your ribbons and bows

And everybody knows
