Gorth Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Start of old thread End of old thread When not playing swtor, I've had a few more goes at Mordheim (fun games, just don't try to do too long sessions), Dishonored (which I'm surprising myself by actually liking) and the odd game of Master of Orion 2 (one of my all time favourites, long live dosbox!) “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. majestic Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 (edited) I played a bit of Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem. I backed it on KS where it was called Umbra and received an early access key a while ago. It's odd, really. The writing is terrible in every way including spelling errors and elementary school level grammar mistakes. Half the UI isn't finished and it has hilarious bugs like clicking through buttons (nothing beats walking into a group of enemies when clicking on the level up button). The animations are so bad it is almost hilarious. Quests literally add nothing to the game but that at least prettily: It tells you in a very nice box that you received zero gold and experience for your efforts, the merchant sells items for free but buys it back for money, which is also worth nothing because he's the only merchant around. Last but most damning at the moment the gameplay is choppy. It says it is running at 80 FPS but it sure feels like 20... ...and yet, I find the game strangely entertaining. The fact that the first spell you find for your character is called Unlimited Power and lets you blast enemies with chained lightning bolts sure helped. Devs sure have a long road ahead of them if they want this to eventually combat Diablo 3, Grim Dawn or Path of Exile, but the potential is there and some of the ideas they have are quite nice, if a bit ambitious. GhostofAnakin Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Destiny's servers were down so I decided to play some of Tom Clancy's the Division. Very early in the game, but I'm not seeing anyone running around the map. The only place I see other players is in the safehouse, but not actually out and about. Do you ever bump into people doing missions? I also don't like the grenades access. I wish it were key mapped to a specific button to just press once, rather than do the <- to and then the fire button after aiming. ShadySands Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 No, you only see other players in hubs and group content/PVP Free games updated 3/4/21
GhostofAnakin Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Hmm. The world feels emptier than I thought it would. Maybe it's just the first section that's like that. But the only bad guys there are are found during the actual missions, while the streets themselves are bare of activity. But there are also a lot of dead bodies around. Enjoy exploring the hazmat areas.
BruceVC Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 I finally got around to playing Witcher 3 and the best way to describe the game is .....epic !! I'm loving it, I am exploring the various areas and I am thoroughly enjoying the open world aspect of the game. It took me 20 hours before I killed the first Griffon endboss. I also travel off the normal path when I travel to a destination...which leads to some interesting encounters causing me to have to run for my life...my 4th level Witcher ran into a 12th level bear for example I never use the Fast Travel signposts...well I have once or twice but I prefer just getting on Roach and seeing what the world offers when I go from one destination to another. I have also removed some of the automatic Map features that make finding things like " Places of Interest " obvious , this also makes the exploration more exciting What a game, well done CDPR...I cant wait to carry on playing today 1 "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. Katphood Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 Continued my first ever playthrough of Silent Hill. Just exited the sewers and I think I am pretty much close to finishing the game. Controls and camera problems aside this game has the best level design I have seen in a survival horror game, even compared to nowadays games. There used to be a signature here, a really cool one...and now it's gone.
GhostofAnakin Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 The problem with games geared toward online/multiplayer/co-op crops up when those games start to lose some of their audience. I'm finding that with Destiny, where the PvP is still busy but the individual stuff (like doing the Court of Oryx) is difficult because I'm usually the only person on the map attempting it. My secondary character has to finish off some stolen and antiquated rune tasks in the Court of Oryx, but there's never anyone there to play with to help me out (especially the antiquated rune one). Majek Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Antiquated rune is rank 3 so yeah, people either don't need to play it anymore or are just plain scared of the difficulty of the boss. Tried to play some DIvision and got the nastiest bug there is. Disappearing HE equipment after matchmaking that completely locks you out of the game when you log out. If you try to connect to their servers you're stuck in a never ending loop. A fix is planned to be released in April 12th, hopefully it will actually work. Until then i can't do anything. :/ Luckily it only happened so close to the patch, some people have been unable to play for weeks. 1.13 killed off Ja2.
teknoman2 Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 just finished Burial at Sea. i can finally scratch one game off my "to finish" list The words freedom and liberty, are diminishing the true meaning of the abstract concept they try to explain. Keyrock Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 (edited) just finished Burial at Sea. i can finally scratch one game off my "to finish" list How did it compare to the base Binfinite campaign? I've yet to play Burial at Sea myself. As for myself, I've been playing J.U.L.I.A. Among the Stars, a point & click, and Enter the Gungeon. Among the Stars, a point & click, and Enter the Gungeon. the first part had identical gameplay but it was rather short (but intense). in the second part you play as Elizabeth and it's more stealth oriented with some mechanics that reminded me of the batman games mixed with thief. it's longer with a heavier story that completes the big picture of how Bioshock and Infinite are connected Edited April 9, 2016 by teknoman2 The words freedom and liberty, are diminishing the true meaning of the abstract concept they try to explain. GhostofAnakin Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Bungie should just offer nothing but Team Deathmatch for PvP. That's what 95% of the players in the lobby do anyways, regardless of what the actual objective of the game is. Last game I played of capture, I lead my team with 5 captures. The next closest on the team were three guys tied with *one* capture. They captured the opening flag right at the beginning, then proceeded to run around the map trying to earn kills while the other team kept taking flags that I'd previously taken. Idiots. the_dog_days Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Just finished Dragon's Dogma. In terms of fidelity, it's probably the best Japanese PC port I've played in recent memory. The problems it had with textures and frame rates are fixed with PC (the textures still aren't great, but Capcom had to scale them back to add the Dark Arisen expansion because of the old engine they were using). It's still Dragon's Dogma, mind you. I thought it was pretty amusing to scale the dragon, stabbing repeatedly in the heart with a dagger while it spouted philosophy at me (yeah, don't preach at me bro), the anti-aliasing also looks like someone smeared all the faces with Vaseline, even in a room full of mindless pawns the player character always managed to have the least and most confused facial expressions, and Capcom nearly perfected BioWare's greatest ambition: a random romance generator (if it was titled 'Random Romance Generator' they would have to give it the subtitle 'Whether You Want It or Not' because as far as I can tell, you end up with a romantic interest regardless of if you attempt to). But it was a fun game, definitely worth playing on PC and it was a great decision to hold off on porting it until they managed to work out most of the kinks. 1

I ended up lucking out and finding someone to finish off the Court of Oryx rune quest with. I don't know what was the deal with his sword, but the guy was absolutely slicing through all the bosses like nothing. Even the antiquated rune one, it was just the two of us and he practically killed the multiple bosses on his own. All I did was basically cover him by shooting at the minions swarming around the map. Majek Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Depends on the players light and his skill and the boss variant. There are 3, each week a different one. But yeah, good players can solo Antiquated rune without much trouble. ANd i played TDM most of the time as well. :D Well that and 3vs3 because there was less lag, we also played "sweaties" ( 3vs3 against each other) when there was still 6+ of us playing. No lag all skill. Easy to farm for certain quests too though i only learned that after i'd suffered on my own, because i wanted those done as a soon as possible. 1.13 killed off Ja2.
GhostofAnakin Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I just need to find one gun I'm comfortable with in PvP. My problem is always an inability to finish off an enemy because of a weak gun. In terms of actually seeing the opponent first or getting the first (or second or third) shot in, I'm usually on the ball. No matter what gun I use (unless it's up-close with a shotty or fusion rifle) I can't put them away consistently. I tried getting into the Division the other day when Destiny's servers were down, but that first section didn't pull me in for whatever reason. I might give it another chance after I've gotten bored with Destiny. Keyrock Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 Getting my ass handed to me in Enter the Gungeon. It's the mark of a good game when you get horribly murdered again and again and instead of getting frustrated, you want to play it again and do better. The game is definitely tough and the RNG factor means you'll have a tougher road sometimes, but the fact that I suck is probably the greatest factor in my many many many deaths. Katphood Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I am almost reaching the end of The Old Hunters DLC. Worth every cent if you ask me, new enemies, new npc's, new weapons, new areas, new bosses... I bought it for 10 bucks or so during a sale. Money well spent I say. Best. DLC. Ever. There used to be a signature here, a really cool one...and now it's gone.
Fenixp Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 Well I bought Dying Light EE once it came out on GOG and uh... I don't have a life any longer. ...Noticed you talked about it some time back in screenshots thread: Normal or hard mode?

Fenixp Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I play on normal. I've never actually tried hard mode. I'm asking because it's actually really cool. It's not just a cheap 'You take more damage' mode (altho it does that too) - health packs don't heal instantly but instead heal over time, resources are more scarce, you can't purchase ammunition, people take shorter period of time to reach dropped supplies, Crane's echolocation brain device doesn't reveal items, that kind of stuff. At the beginning, fighting a common zombie is a real challenge. It turns the game into a proper zombie survival game, which is pretty much my dream zombie game. Mind you, it makes boss fights suck more since in this mode, avoiding conflict is even more essential than before. Also fighting other people is more irritating than ever. It can generally get quite frustrating and virals become a nightmare until you get a skill to squish sculls. Still, it's a proper hard mode which genuinely makes things harder in other ways than just cheap 'more HP and damage for evil'. 1
Keyrock Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 ^ Sounds good. I may give that a try when I inevitably revisit the game at some point, though after completing the main story I mostly play it like Death Race 2000 and just drive like a madman and run over zombies. Good times. I'm having a lot of fun with J.U.L.I.A. Among the Stars. It's been a pretty interesting mystery so far, hopefully it doesn't end on a sour note, like so many games with promising stories tend to do. I appreciate the mini-games that are included besides the regular point & click fare. They're not brilliant, mind you, but I like having something else to break up the regular p&c gameplay so long as it's not frustrating. This has done nothing to ease my current point & click addiction. I'm already looking around, trying to find another p&c to play after this. 1 RFK Jr 2024 "Any organization created out of fear must create fear to survive." - Bill Hicks
the_dog_days Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 Broke down and finally bought Fire Emblem Fates. Five hours in and I liked Awakening much more. Not a bad game, but Fates' opening doesn't have the same effect as robot zombies falling out of an interdimensional hole in the sky.
