Which class has most unique dialogues?

Recommended Posts

Hmm I've seen paladin lines with Calicas' sister and Raedric

Number of special conversation options that player can choose per class are following

Cipher: 11

Priest: 9 (total for all priests)

Fighter: 5

Wizard: 4

Rogue: 3

Ranger: 3

Barbarian: 3

Monk: 2

Chanter: 2

Druid: 1

Paladin: 1 (total all paladins)

I searched matches from conversation files by using search script so there is possibility for false positives as I didn't check all the results

There is possibility that Paladins and Priest may have more conversation options but they aren't called by their class, but instead of their faith or order.

These numbers don't include cases where NPC refer to players class.

Any chance you could check the same for cultural backgrounds?

That's still a damn awful spread.

edit:

White that Wends Merchant Cipher... that's gonna be it for my next playthrough I suppose tongue.png

Amaua for race, I suppose, or a Godlike, since I already played an Orlan. No idea Orlans came up that much though...

The number also includes hard to notice stuff like a Black Hound Inn background convo telling you filthy Orlan to go back to Defiance Bay and a line from the server that you shouldn't think about stealing their job.

Race also locks you out of certain lines, like the Smithy guard not telling an Orlan that he thinks all Orlans are thieves; but I didn't count the lock-outs.

Wow, Orlans seem to get enough **** for both themselves and the deatlikes.

There is are at least 5 uses of culture of Ruatai (Not Rautai like it is written in strategy guide and wiki Guidebook volume 1, I am not sure how it effects in game checks with characters that have selected Rautai or Ruatai culture option) in Kana's conversation file

The character creation screen also says "Rauatai", so I'm guessing the scripter made a typo. I'll try to figure out if the character creation actually sets the typo-d condition before I edit my post.

by the way, "Rautai" unlocks 9 dialogue lines, 8 of which are by Kana.

I only got 3. The rest 6 probably hide in the same place where those 17 Cipher are (as a cipher, I only got 6 checks). It also felt really awkward when Kana started explaining that book of virtues to me: shouldn't Rauatai characters know that stuff themselves? Makes me wonder if Aloth explains hemneg to Aedyran characters as well.

Here are all the Rauatai checks during dialogue. I only listed 6, because the other 3 are actually just slightly different versions of Kana's dialogue depending on whether he's been recruited yet - that sort of minor variation is not normally the case with NPCs, but I did notice it with companions (the other noteworthy example is Aloth and Aedyrs).

That's still 6 distinct checks, though, and if you missed half of them, it might be time for a replay or a bug report. I'm only quoting the first line that changes in a convo string:

Player: "How can you tell I'm not a local?"

Kana laughs. "You've got Rauatai written all over you. That's hardly a bad thing, mind."

Player: "Has Rauatai changed much since I left it?"

instead of:

Player: "Tell me about Rauatai."

Player: "The accent's right, but you don't look like you're from Rauatai." (can also be unlocked with Perception 12)

Kana: "Truly? Then perhaps we can help one another! The grounds are infested with all manner of beasts. I have never seen the like. I did not want to risk it alone, but two sons of Rauatai, together - I am sure we could manage it! And then we can both ask our questions of Maerwald."

Kana: "I seek a great treasure, you see. Not gold or silver, but the xx. The yy of our people, my friend, and it is there!"

Onŵen: She raises an eyebrow at you. "Or do people from the Rauatai Gulf eat their teachers? You do eat some strange things from what I've heard..."

In general, when one conversation features a lot of checks they tend to blend together and no longer feel quite so "special". But that's only the case very rarely - for Rauatai with Kana, Aedyr with Aloth, "Snow Elves" (code equivalent of Pale Elves) with Glaswal, and Orlans with Captain Aldmar. Usually race and background are only checked once in a given convo.

You can also argue that passively unlocking flavour text is not a meaningful "check" for gameplay purposes, but the OP wasn't asking for in-game rewards, so I didn't bother to make a distinction. A power gamer would usually care more about Skill and Attribute checks than race or background checks anyway.

Thank you. Now that you posted it, I realise that I got all the five lines from Kana, it's just the third one was a perception check, and in the fifth I didn't realise that by "our people" he refers to myself as well. That Onŵen person, however, I don't remember. Is he/she from the singing birds quest in Twin Elms?

If I am understanding this correctly, the top two in every category are:

Ciphers
Priests of Skaen

Scholar
Merchant, Philosopher & Raider (tied)

Aedyr
White That Wends

Fire Godlike
Orlan

With only two sexes, they both qualify  :)

That opens up some possibilities for mixing and matching.

Thank you Bubbles!

I would also like to know this.

Also, does it include NPC:s reacting to you, or is it strictly the choices that the player has? I strongly suspect that it's both, but I'd like to have it confirmed, because there's a marked difference between people saying "Hey, you're a Coxfither" and you being able to do something because you're a coxfither.

And with that in mind, the list looks even sadder.

That 17 Cipher is just so ****ing crazy.

A lot of it is for quests resolution- everything that other classes need GM or an outside Cipher for (Blood Legacy, Eder's quest, etc), a PC Cipher can do themselves.

Have a very nice day.

I know, which just makes it so much, much worse. Ideally, all classes should have a comparable amount of meaningful choices.

I don't think this is actually 100% accurate, for instance you have Rautai dialogue lines with Kana yet they are not listed.

It is because Rautai is for some reason written Ruatai in files that check backgrounds, which causes that you don't find them when you search Rautai from the files. Kana's conversation is only one, I think, that has background checks for Rautai.

EDIT: There are 9 Rautai checks, from which 8 are with Kana

I reckon Priest of Eothas has the most early game. Cipher probably has the most throughout.

As an Eothasian priest, there really aren't a huge number of them. Despite many characters going "Eothas this, Eothas that" in the beginning, my characters response has to be "Who's Eothas?". It's sort of frustrating that I don't get more of the "My God's not dead." dialogue that I love so very much.
