Yeah, with my network speeds, I would guess at 24 - 36 hours to download, so I really want to get preloading... Wondering if I could order on Steam to begin preloading, then request Steam support cancel / reverse the order once I get the backer keys...

I must not preload.

Preload is the mind-killer.

Preload is the little-death that brings total obliteration.

I will face my lack of keys.

I will permit it to pass over me and through me.

And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

Where the keys have gone there will be nothing.

Only Steam will remain.

I think we're starting to move past rioting and moving on to full-blown liberal revolution. Someone figure out how to make a tricolour from Obsidian's colours. Time to write scathing and inaccurate pamphlets and turn on each other as infighting becomes mass-executions!

Vive la république!

I told Steam to start the preloading. We are going to be giving backers keys in the next few hours and if we didn't tell them to enable preloading we wouldn't have been able to enable it until tomorrow.

It's ok.

Myself I don't like the idea of folks that just happened along the game get to preload. But us folks that financed the game have to wait.

I sure hope none of the what, 77000 backers have any problems with their keys due to human error.

I mean, why issue them early with time to correct problems when you can just do it all at once and hope that it all works out alright, right?

Help is good when asked for,

Better when needed.

This is really screwing over their backers who are on 56.6k or worse.

Not really? Over reaction there. If you are using dial-up internet, you shouldn't be gaining access to a game this size via internet download. The ideal way would be via a stack of dvd discs in a box. >.< The game is released on Thursday, 9 am PST. Until it's hit around 5 PM Eastern Time on Thursday, I won't be crying foul. Delays happen. Once that bridge is crossed at that point, people can start complaining.

I'll be honest, I'm just here to procrastinate.

I always did have a hard time getting into hype mode.

Now riot mode I can get behind.  Down with the oppressors!  Up with the unoppressors!  Neutral for those guys who don't really oppress but are kinda a**holes nonetheless!

Well this makes perfect sense. Would we rather the steam buyers get to preload before we get to preload tonight, or would we rather everybody have to wait until tomorrow? I know which one I prefer.

Here, have this, while you waiting for the keys.

It's a bit more concerning that they haven't even come in with a statement.  Nothing.

Like I said before they have our money don't need to sell us the game.  I know we don't get to play it(ridiculous) but this is even worse.

56k has a maximum download speed of 7000 bytes per second.  The preload is clocking in at around 6 gigabytes.  6,000,000,000 bytes / 7,000 bytes per second ~= 857,000 seconds.  There are 86,400 seconds in a day.  It will take you 10 days to download Pillars on a 56k modem.  A delay of 3 hours is a 1% increase in the amount of time it will take you.

Just stop, all of you (including me, by the way) whining about not having your keys.  You didn't even know they were coming out today until a few hours ago.

Obsidian doesn't care about backer people.

Stop spreading lies.

He wasn't spreading lies, he was spreading memes.  "George Bush doesn't care about black people" is a famous cringe-worthy video from Kanye West after Katrina.

I got it, Lainestin.  Well played.

However, as long as the forum doesn't devolve into flames, I guess it's fitting for folks to be able to blow off a little steam

Puns! Because that's what this forum needs right now. Puns.

Yeah, I agree. Blowing off Steam is the Key to maintaining calm in a situation where folks are just loaded up with anticipation for the game.

I don't think they do really.  If they did they would have released a version for backers just before launch.  We wouldn't all be sitting here wondering why there are no steam keys...they are worried about new buyers not those that paid them.
